Using my current mount, i'm also wondering what pressure change i'd see if i used 2 washers on one side and one washer on the other side of my heatsink. I dont think this would solve my uneven pressure because i think (but am totally guessing) that my cores are left and right of each other. having uneven washer pressure should only help if they are above and below each other. but would still be interested in seeing what happens...if i had pressure film

This is the reason my numbers are down, I had some minor leakage Weds. I don't think anything is dead, I had to shut it off myself.:down:

Yeah, everything's dusty. The rad was pretty much caked with dust. Fortunately, we have an air compressor. I see it as an excuse to actually get a decent rad. (the barbs are permanent and dented on the one I have now) The only thing that got wet was my DVD burner.

Back on the subject of testing, my contact looks horrible. Even with a hard mount.:shakes:

I would Like to get the sample up to 20 to get the confidence level up, I still have 4 or 5 I have not been able to link to the thermals and another 6 out for analysis -

On an initial impression force over 45 psi seems to be the dominant factor for a positive result, and as pressure is related to contact, those that have some marginal contact (non flat) are compensated for by increasing the overall pressure.

I have not had a chance to look at all the data closely yet but a cursory look at sample 19A pressure film result shows only contact on two edges which would point to a contact issue

Still need more data but that's the way it looks to be trending.

its official, more pressure does decrease temps. i made a trip to home depot to get some 6-32 screws to replace the screws from thermalright that came with my ultima 90

the stock thermalright screws, as you can see below, only have a certain amount of thread on them.

my mounting bracket relied on the shoulder where the thread stops to stop the screw from going any farther causeing the spring to only compress a little. now i'm using regular screws and can tighten it as much i want. i stopped tightening the spring because it was makin noises because its never been compressed that much and i knew it was only a few threads more than the old screws allowed.

with the old screws i had temps of
idle
core 1: 26-27C
core 2: 33-34C
WCG 100% load
core 1: 36-38C
core 2: 40-42C

now when i turned my pc back on with the new springs
idle
core 1: 25-27
core 2: 31-33
WCG 100% load
core 1: 33-35C
core 2: 38-40C

64dragon - That's a pretty good result from test 37B that's 5 -6 C off your temps from the start of this exercise.

Broad contact & high force for the Positive results- Kind of what you guys recommend as a first salvo trouble shooting temp problems in the forums.

Lap and tighten down/re-seat the sink

The low force I think as far as the direct contact heat pipe may be skewed from the other results due to it's design.

The other is is a comparison on an aged mount as a guess on my part

Raw Images of the previous set - Bail_W 1A is on track to winning the grand prize for best contact/pressure result.

Somebody emailed about a couple of gaps in results. most were multiples of progressive lapping and I will post some those on their own but on a couple the thermal data is spotty. I should be adding another 11 results on wed or Thursday

I had 24k demand on my e6600
I let it burn in till yesterday 6-10-08
Room Temp was a hot 32c
core0: 40c
core1: 39c

I was happy with that high a room temp and my core temps still that low. WOW

now I made some changes to that system just so you know
I put it on an asrock mobo and also put it on the old maze4 water block. I am planning to tare down my G0 Q6600 system again to see if the idea I had from dragon. To see if it would help me out. :)
