I have some new hardware incoming next week and will set ip up next weekend. I can't wait to get the smell when the box opens, it's my coke :(
BTW: Stijndp... any news from your cheesy authorities ? QX would be very nice asset :p:
You guys think a 2.6ghz X2 can run SMP?
Sorry but people running the cache castrated c2d arch cpu's are having troubles making the preferred deadline, no way your D820 made them unless you ran it under fase at 6G or so
And a HT? Prescot? You nuts right? I mean, can't even believe you just serieusly said that. :shakes:
Hey guys, I'm going to be taking a break from F@H for a while. I have been having some issues with my main folding rig and am going to take it down. Plus, I'm switching the other rig I have been using for F@H back to WCG. I'll be back though. Hopefully they will get the smp's out of beta and supporting service installs. I have been running them in service mode, but I'm not happy with how it has been running.
Wow ok, I know some people with E2xxx cpu's which were having trouble with the deadlines, and some 3800 x2's which needed to be clocked to get them but that was in the start. Maybe they lacked in other departments, ram or something.
Still really amazed about your p4 D's being able to rack them up in time, not to mention a HT cpu infact I really don't believe in it. The minimum spec for a mac smp client is 1.83g c2d andQuote:

I wouldn't worry about it too much though. If anyone still is running a P-D I suggest they replace it with a cheap X2 or a C2D as they would pay for themselves in electricity savings :p:
But to answer Kingcarcas' question, yes a 2.6GHz X2 can run SMP no problem. My opteron 165 (same arch) @ 2.8GHz had plenty of time left before the deadlines so a 200MHz slower chip won't be a problem at all
4X4N, if you take a break, we thank you for your support  But please don't be gone long :D
:censored: :upset: :soap: :dammit: :cussing: We were so close to a redline as a team (200K) :cord:
Oh well... my next cube project is coming... when exactly, not sure, but got ordered Magicool's 480 rad already :p:
The Pent Ds were actually faster than the 3800x2. The 3800x2 was a stock HP machine dedicated rig, it would take 2.5 days for a WU about 700-800 ppd. The Pent Ds were at 3.2 Ghz and would complete a WU in about 28 hours or 1200-1400 PPD. On certain WUs the small cache E6400/E6300 would be about the same speed as the Pent D....
The E6420 at work (stock off course) does 1400ppd, 1200ppd when I'm working. I can change DRAM timings in HP's bios but I can't set a smple fsb
Thanks, but right now i'm dealing with a freakin' IRQL NOT LESS THAN OR EQUAL BSOD, i've seen it before but this time it happened after i installed SMP. I'm thinking of just wiping windows all together, but first i'll check to see if the RAM is stable.
Yup cache matters I know, I mentioned before I know people with 2xxx series cpu's which are having trouble making the preferred deadline, but still I'm shaking my head as I can't believe a HT cpu to be able to complete a smp WU within the preferred deadline ( or is Sparky right and did you mean the final deadline? ).
Stijn, if you know the pll try setfsb can't hurt to try.
Marvin... no-one said those cache-lacking cpus were meeting preferred deadlines?
BTW: 6420 is fine, it has 4mb cache. But I really don't remember how much was the difference compared to jimwah's allendale 6400... IIRC it wasn't that dramatic...
Maybe it was just me, if people say they make the deadline I always assume we're talking about the prefered one's :)
And the 1mb cache variants do show a drastic diffrence in frame times, fah always been cache dependant on intel due to the arch. I went from a 6400 to a 6600 and the diffrence was certainly very noticeable ( note I did never say dramatic going from 2 to 4 ).
It's pretty annoying knowing that it could give me 50% extra clocks without even changing Vc.
It's running 40°C on both core's with folding 24/7. When I opened the case it had a very weird cooler, looked like an arctic freezer but I don't think it was. But I was in a hurry, some idiot put the ram in single channel instead of dual channel (government agencies  ). Anyone know what coolers HP puts on the C2D's?
Idk about the cooler but next time you have it open try looking for the pll chip :)
Maybe it's time to remind people that when a client is not finishing wu in preferred deadline, then this wu is re-issued to someone else automagically and thus the same wu is folded twice and the project is taking hit of a slack
But if wu returned back to stanford servers before final deadline it is then being credited though, yet not cool way run to f@h :(
So I know why you, MTM, would think mainly about pref. deadline
