i dont know about anyone else, but ALL of the 965 and 975 chipsets should require a fan on them to keep them cool.
even the P5W DH with its heatpipe can get pretty toasty. mine did. so i thru a little fan on it.
hot glue does wonders for those quick fittings of fans onto goofy spots lol
What about this passive cooler from Zalman, some reviews say it cools better than the cheap HS&F that normally comes on a Northbridge

maybe, but you would still need decent airflow going through it
Finally managed to get Easy Tune to work...
how hot is too hot for these chips?
Me needs a NB fan...
There are plenty of reviews on Google. IMO, the fan is not loud at all. It has three speeds to accommodate everyone's tastes.Quote:

What cooling are you on?
Seriously 70° full is the max for me.
I used Gigabyte 3D rocket cooler 2.
Holy poop on a stick!!! Something is seriously strange here!
I installed a coolermaster hyper48 on my DS3 and the fan that comes with it is a low noise fan (normally @ 1400 rpm or so)
BUT i went into the bios (F3) and disabled smart fan control
Now it it running at 4000 rpm, and its really loud
I didnt even know this fan was capable of such speeds!!
What on earth is going on??
yeah it's really loud compared to before because it's a variable speed fan. When I was running the fan on amd it only used 3 pins so I think it was always running at minimum speedQuote:

not bad for the vCore and cooling me thinks :)
I'm gonna test it higher now!!
:woot:
Have you tested your max fsb with 6x multi ?
nice resultQuote:

as when I use easytune, orthos SP2004 only displays my original speed I booted off bios at
Can't be bothered to ;)Quote:

@ ArcTan, No I booted at 440 x 7 with no problems. I don't like clocking from withing windows...
:toast:
Same vCore, 450 x 7 no problem:

Nice results but why is cpu rpm in hardware monitor 0 if the cpu temp is reading 60? Also why still stock cooled?
Very nice K.I.T.T.! Bootable and stable at 450FSB awsome! Keeping pushing it! I would'nt raise vcore anymore though. Try switching to 6x multi.
460 MHz FSB, no - go even with 6x multi :(
455 x 7 seems OK though....
I will try harder :)
EDIT:
Does anyone know the vCore measure point for DMM? This thing droops quite heavily :stick:
I've tried my 6300 with stock vcore 445FSB ok, not more prime stable.
holy crap KITT we need to get you some better cpu cooling... 65 deg ?!! damn... too hot.. especially for such low volts
And that`s only Prime.
S&M will toast that chip :p:
I'm trying to decide between the P5B Deluxe and a DS3 or a DS4.
DS4 and P5B are the same price here, but if the DS3 is just as good a board, I'd rather save the money. :)
What I wanna ask is whether a HR-05 would fit onto the NB. I have one right now on my old S478 mobo and I would like to continue using it if I get a 775 mobo that doesn't use some heatpipe system. TR's website hasn't listed these new 965 mobos on their compatibility list yet.
