I told people the crazy cool does not just "come off"!!!!...there is a spungy thermal pad that holds the crazy cool to the motherboard. It dosen't just come off without ripping the thermal pad apart or leaving residue behind...and it could void the warranty!Quote:

i am aware of that, but just the idea..even in long term is stupid....ppl decide for a cpu..and THEN they find a board that works good with it afterwards...so if amd/ati can make ppl buy their chipset and not intels, intel will make less money...that simple.Quote:

The combination of the increased base FSB (compared to socket 939) and overclockability of the CPU to much higher levels you are in constant combat with your stupid board.
It's really too early to tell. That board is an early reference design on only a 4-layer PCB. Let's all take a breath and see what DFI can do with it on a 6-layer PCB and Oscar Wu on the job. :idea:Quote:

The enthusiest high-end realm is only a very small percentage of sales but even then if the AMD/ATI merger goes through at the end of the year Intel will cut ATI off from chipsets for Intel processors after the RD600. Intel could squash ither one of them if they really wanted to but then would face a lot of lawsuits and investigations on the matter in court. I think there is a decent chance Intel will step up and outbid AMD before the end of the year because Intel could use ATI's chipsets and Crossfire. It will be interested to see what takes place after the first of the year.Quote:

You're talking about this tiny market as if it really meant something. AMD will have their asses well spanked for the next 9 months to a year. All ATI can do is make this worse. RD600 is just one more reason NOT to buy AMD processors and at best its about 100 million for ATI. Dude AMD is small but even for them that's Chump Change. Even ATI can't stop the Booty Kicking AMD will be getting until they come up with something better=P
See Dream Machine #11 2006 at MaximumPC for whats about to happen? :woot:

As I expected, AMD will start fabing ATI chips as soon as possible. They have to make use of all their fab space since they don't have a competative cpu design to manufactor that would be sellable in such quantity. IE Keep producing as much, just a different wiggit; with the idea of hopefully holding up the same profit margin. It's a tactical admission they expect to lose on the cpu end.

AMDfreak...that just makes it more ompressive...i expect a lot from that board from dfi.....and it seems already now form that little test on the chipset, that there can be a good chance they deliver....until then i will have to do with a asus p5w dh for my e6600 sl9S8
Haven't read much of this thread. Anyway i'll be using a 6700 on a single stage so i'll want up to around 430x10 bootable. Am i right in saying that the P5WDH and BadAxe304 are my only choices?
yes..but you need a really lucky cpu too...the new steppings are not good...even great cooling dont make much of a difference....
no... that's not true.Quote:

The e6600 is mid priced at $350 and has a 9 multi. Even a decent board will get you near 4ghz... what more did you want?
Simple Charlie, regular reasonable priced boards, not their "trying to set a new high price trend to see if it will stick" $200+ boards.
What we need for that to happen is for all the idiots NOT to buy boards at those prices, waiting until they become even remotely reasonable.
What's so bad about the ~$150 i965 boards from Gigabyte, Abit, Asus and Intel or the $50-80 boards from ASRock?Quote:

I need well over 400 fully stable from bootup with a 9 or 10x multi, the 150$ "budget" Conroe board -- the DS3 -- does not deliver this.
We need more boards that clock like the Badaxe & P5WDH but don't cost 250$.
If mine, whenever I get it, goes to 3.6GHz I'm happy as hell. At an even 3GHz it kicks the crap out of everything on the market except higher clocked Conroes.Quote:

I have everything ready and waiting for the processor.
well i would never have the board to be the limit if there is a better board....and i really prefer DFI..i know they can take it over a long period....and the bios is just loveable when you get into it....control enough to fry ram and cpu if u want :) ...too bad the lanparty isnt ready yet.
Very good thread
its helped me alot over the past few days planning my new rig!
i think im gonna go with the Gigabyte DS4, simply for overclocking, as from what ive heard its a great performer
thx skyline

review asus ASUS P5W DH Deluxe : http://www.maxitmag.com/testing-bay/...board-review/2 "Average overclocking ability " max fsb = 400 mhz
gigabyte dq6 doing 501 mhz fsb :) http://www.vr-zone.com/index.php?i=3848
In the ds3 article they are using +.3v MCH. Is that safe for 24/7 use?Quote:

All the articles are with Allendale's, we need more previews with 6600/6700's!
