Ive seen 0550 do 3.2 and some not even do 2.7 soo...
finally decided to pop lid on 0550UPMW due to high temps even at stock! but what I did was popped lid....the took IHS put it in a small bowl and soaked it in lighter fluid....then I took CPU and put it in a small bowl and soaked it in lighter fluid as well....I soaked them both in lighter fluid because it is not a hot enough solvent to damage anything other than the black silicone glue that they put on the chips to keep IHS on...I let them soak for about 1 hours then grabbed a credit card and scraped off black silicone glue like it was butter....came off in about 1 min for IHS and CPU....then I got 2 new bowls and poured rubbing alcohol on both...let it sit for a couple of mins then took a paper towl to wipe off excess and let both of them air dry for about 10 mins..then I put some AS5 on CPU core and glued lid back on for a healty drop in temps...was idle @ 31C now 27C and load was 53C down to 40C...here is pic of naked core with all the silicone gone:

What method are you guys using to remount the IHS? Do you keep pressure on it as the glue drys? What kind of glue? I think temps are the biggest reason my CCb1E 550 blows compared to others. The temps are an avg of 10c hotter than my old 543tpmw. Im not sure what to think anymore. The CCB1E was stable at 2.85ghz with 1.55v, but then became unstable. When it became unstable, no amoutn of voltage would stabilize it. I ran cpu burn over night 2 nights in a row and am now priming at 2.85ghz with 1.525v. So the burn in did help some, whether it will be stable for at least 8 hours remains to be seen. Ill keep you guys updated if anyone cares.

My Opteron 175 doesn't seem to do anything stable over 9x278 = ~2500Mhz @1,45V on a Epox 9NPA+ SLI , no matter the voltage i give it. It's burned in plenty i've used CPU-Burnin for over 3 sessions of 10 hours and atleast 72 hours of priming sofar. Ram is running at 175mhz (133 divider) Cooled by a Big Typhoon, 45C under load.
It's a 0550MPMW , is it true all 175's suck *ss and all 170's out-clock it easily ? I bought the 175 originally because i thought (hoped) they would be better chips. (and if so, what is the deal with that??)
If so, i'm selling this piece of junk and getting a 170....

Permatex makes something called "The Right Stuff". Looks and has the same feel as AMD's adhesive. AutoZone/Pep Boys has it. I place a piece of cardboard in the stock plastic tray overnight after I re-apply the IHS.Quote:

WTF are you talking about, you don't gain any MHz just by having an HSF on a naked core, you gain MHz from the temp drop it gives you. So you should care about dropping temps.. :stick:Quote:

Too many volts man, i'm running water as well and volts beyond 1.53 does not go down well, just gets too hot. That won't explain your latency but... if you want to clock higher try to scale it up slowly starting with low volts.Quote:

Yeah I got 2 170 CCB1E 0550VPMWs 678L, 523 & 168 batches. Both initially tested @ 2.9Ghz @ 1.45 (DMM, = 1.375 in bios) on my DFIs, whereas the UPMW needed 1.5 to get to 2.7Ghz.
One is now breaking in in rosetta @ 1.375(DMM) (1.30v x 1.04bios) / 10x280, will move that up in a few days. Other one goes in during the week.

All dividers will work fine, as long as you set your MAL/RP correctly and you have a decent MB. My Ultra-D AD0 lets me use all the dividers with a bit of tweaking but the one I had before it (RMA'd, not sure what rev) only let me use 100/120/166/180 no matter what.
Also I think burn in helped my 0550VPMW as well- my burn in settings are 312x9 with 1.400v, core 0 crapped out in prime after 5 seconds and core 1 lasted 8 minutes at first. Now they do 90 secs, and 23mins.. plus 308x9 is now prime stable while before 307x9 was the absolute max. I haven't tried 309 after the burn in yet.
This is after ~8 8hr+ sessions.. it did get much worse before it got better. At one point 307x9 (stable before burn in) crapped out after 4hrs in prime

For burning in you want to find a decent stable overclock (I chose 2808@1.45) and lower the volts .05-.1 (or until prime lasts for 0-5mins on the weaker core). Then what you want to do is run a program called CPUburn on the "K7" setting for long periods of time, at first your CPU will start to suck but after that it will get a little better. Make sure to load both cores
About the MAL/RP, that is max async latency/read preamble dram settings in the BIOS. If your system gets stuck at the "verifying dmi pool" screen when using certain dividers, mess with these 2 settings until you can boot past this screen. There doesn't seem to be an exact science to it, sometimes you have to loosen them and sometimes tighten.. Some boards won't boot with certain dividers no matter what though, like my previous :banana::banana::banana::banana:ty ultra-d
thanks but i didn't find the cpu burn program, i think what i founded was the profiles and there was no k7 thereas lot more including k6 but not k7 so i started burning in with cpu burn in and i'm was not shure if i could burn in the two cores so i launch two instances of cpu burn in, i'm not sure if i'm doing it right. if i'm wrong how do i do it right and where can ir get the cpu burn and how do i launch and find the k7.

I think 165 CCBWE 0550 VPMW(which mine now currently availabe on sale :)) is mediocore cause my previous one just stuck with 2400 with 1.35Vcore and 2520 on 1.4V, haven't try it at hinger voltage because of the temp...BUT someone with the same stepping(kitt?) can do 2700-2800 with 1.45-1.5V

Funky I've got the same step as you, and seems it likes volts. Waiting for AS5 to settle I'm running mine at 1.55 in BIOS at 300x9 too. It's been burning since yesterday and tonight I will try to lower volts (and up the HTT :D). Hope the burn makes something

Can't be bothered to run it longer, I had a window a bit open to hold that temp down...hits 50 degrees pretty quick.
I think it is safe to say that I have reached my intentional OC...wanna go 1:1 with my XP4000 sticks on 270MHz.
Both cores are equally strong, can't make either fail...comp freeze on me first.
Will reseat the chip tomorrow and see if temps get better, I can't see any reason to raise the vcore if I cannot keep temps down.

Oh and here's one of the VPMW's I shipped out last week. I couldn't help but order one for myself. I've had about 1 1/2hrs with it so far. bios is bone stock except for the 180 divider and the 280 speed. Just settling in for a midnight prime on its first day of use :)

3000 @1.45v(bios setting??) seems awesome to me..that would be 1.48v with overvolting on the DFI or only 10% bump for 50% OC..very nice

1 hour 42 minutes of priority 9 dual prime now :) 2.8GHz @ 1.52v, seems a little high compared to some of these 0550's :( Does anybody know if running at this voltage 24/7 will do any long term damage to the chip, or is this voltage perfectly safe for 24/7 use? Just seems really high compared to these 0550's.
Check the Vcore measure point w/ a DMM to be sure. Mine 1.5 = 1.6 :eek:
1.5 is ok for longterm, I don't like 1.6 :down:

I have an Asus A8N-SLI Premium and 1 GB of OCZ Platinum Rev 2 RAM.
I am able to get 2600 stable at 1.36 vcore (bios, PC Probe shows 1.39) using an XP-120C HSF. My dual prime load temp is 48 C. My RAM is set to 400 in the BIOS (1:1) at 2.5-3-3-7.
As soon as I go up to 2650 I have to slow the RAM down and my temps go up to 49-50.
This doesn't seem too bad but I was hoping for better.
I don't want to install water and I don't want temps much higher.
I tried a 0550 UPMW but it could not match the VPMW at the same settings.
So from you experts out there, how does this seam?

Clint, your chip is very amazing, i think it's better than mine. Set it to 3 Ghz, bet you can do it with 1.42 volts or so.

lol, i hit 3 Ghz on air, i hit 2.85 on air w/ stock voltage. Temps were mid 40s C.

Maybe if you mounted bad and pumpted 1.65v and left it dual loading with +15c you could run on a single stage, but it's hardly worth it when these things are hitting 3.1 Ghz on water :)

And you're doing it on air? Your chip is definitely better than mine by .5v at least. Get some watercooling quick! PM me if you want help piecing together watercooling.
This chip is just guzzling volts. Sorry for complaining about my chip in almost every post, but it's really irritating me that I didn't go for the 0550 on eBay in the first place (when CCB1E's were first released) and that I went with this chip instead, but I guess I can't do anything about it now.
EDIT: What is up with SP2004? Only detects the boot speed, and doesn't seem to detect any clockgen adjustments.
If it makes you feel any better, 2.8 Ghz isn't a bad overclock for a 165, it's still +1Ghz. The 170s are crazy clockers though.

He's working on a week 47, you have a week 50. Your overclock is quite good as well, just on week 50s i kinda expect 2.8 GHz. It's a lot harder to achieve it with a lesser CPU. Not like you have to prove yourself here; if you can do 2.85 Ghz show it!

I find with my Antec P160 case and Thermaltake XP-90C with Panaflo medium fan on it, that temps are 48C when going at 2600 or above. I am a bit wary of pushing the temps too high.
I have the XP-90C installed with the large portion extending over the chipset, not the RAM. I also have the fan blowing into the CPU. And, I've used AS3, not AS5 as the thermal compound.
Should the 0550 VPMW run much cooler than 48C at 2600 in this configuration?
Yeah, i was mostly loading in the mid 40s with low volts, only when i pushed volts to 1.48v did i see 49c, on my AC Freezer64 Pro.
I have the Enermax Liberty 500 watt power supply and Asus PC Probe shows my voltages fluctuating at 3.34-3.36, 5.08-5.1 and 12.03-12.1.
Are these values OK or too high? Could they be contributing to my high temps?
