Give me a few mins, I just got done playing crysis. The reason its so cold is because I have a fan next to my computer and the window open with a fan in that, Look up my area code 49007 on weather.com, you can see its cold here.

WHAT?!?!?!?! That's completely absurd! I thought that I had it working from the BIOS when I had my P5K....
Seriously though man my Abit motherboard could adjust fan speeds in the OS.....in real time. That's so weak if it's true.....
I really wish that I would've waited for the Abit.
I have set the "Loadline Calibration" to "Enabled" in the Bios and I dont have anymore Vdrop:up:
I reach 3.6 GHz stable
http://chezjuju.123.fr/oc/cpuz_3.6_stable.png
http://chezjuju.123.fr/oc/occt_3.6_stable.png
VCore is not an optimal value, I think lower value is possible.
I tested for stability @ 4GHz (1.55Volts for VCore), OCCT runs five minutes withouth stability issues, but the temperature is too high to continue the test.
I think, it is possible to be stable at 4Ghz :D
Yeah, I only adjust one setting at a time, when it gets tricky is when one setting can be upped while another can be downed to compensate. Thanks for that, because it appears thats what was hanging the system. CpuPLL is now 1.6V, and its "stable" playing Bioshock which is only my 2nd "real world" test. 1st is 3dMark2006. Now it's time to start using Prime95 eh? What is PLL anyway? I only know of a Phased Lock Loop from electronics
The PLL is a frequency generator, wich it can modulate frequencies. The original frequency delivered by a quartz clock.
Enabling BOTH CE1 and EIST/Speedstep, Vista just drops the multiplier, dont touch the vcore (0401 BIOS).
My new Asus Extreme rig

CPU: idle/stepdown temps at ca 32 C, OCCT full load ca 47 C
VERY happy with both the low volt and temps. Have not tried going lower in core volt.
NB: idle temp at ca 41 C, OCCT full load ca 49 C
SB: idle temp at ca 41 C, OCCT full load ca 46 C
GPU: idle ca 46 C

OCing from default 2.4GHz only gave a 3DMark boost of about 200.
Looks like I can easily OC the CPU alot more, but dont feel the need yet. UT3 demo with all set to max and 1600x1200 is slicker as snott :p:

Anybody is having troubles running G.skill HZ on the Maximus?
I thought I would quickly post my experience with this motherboard.
Assembled machine with an E6850 and 4GB of Kingston HyperX PC8500 memory. No matter what I tried, could not get the memory stable on this motherboard at any speed or by adjusting any of the BIOS settings. I had two pairs of memory, and it is highly unlikely all 4GB sticks were faulty. I had tried individual sticks, 1 pair, and 2 pair. The sticks were stable in a different brand motherboard and passed memtest86 without any problems there.
I ended up purchasing 4 1GB Corsair PC8500 and right from the start those were stable. The only adjusting I had to do with the BIOS is set the RAM to 2.2V and specify the speed at 1066--everything else set to AUTO. RAN OCCT and PRIME95 for two nights and had no problems.
Anyone else have luck with Kingston memory on this board? My experience was very bad and spent many hours trying to fiddle with the BIOS and had no success.
Hi,
wich Memory should i buy for Maximus Formula?
At moment i use 4x 1GB (2x Kit) Corsair Twinx2048 XMS2-6400C4 Rev. 2.1@2.1V, but i can't get it stable under Vista x64.
Tonight (MET) i will buy new Memory. 2x2 GB in a Kit, but wich Memory works at Maximus Formula perfect?
What i need:
1. 100% stable Memory for Dualchannel + option to extend to 8 GB (4x2 GB)
2. DDR2-800 who can make 450-500 MHz (to overlock Q6600 to 3400GHz)
3. Latency 5-5-5-15/18 @ 500 MHz
thanks for help
i set to 1.5v(lowest) on CpuPLL in bios, 423x9=3.8G, both prime and occt stable!
since my system is stable in this lowest setting, it is unnecessary to set it higher to produce more heat!
Hi, here http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=669218 they are selling version 2 of this motherboard. Dunno the difference, perhaps someone else does?
Chris
People should stop screaming they got a stable OC at for exemple 3.9GHz because OCCT Auto on a 30 mn test said that.
Please read through this topic, and use some varried testing software. OCCT RAM and CPU mode are the only way to go. CPU mode is for CPU and RAM for NB-RAM. If you read the thread, you'll see that is difficult to get OCCT RAM stable on this board. Alternatively, use Prime95 small FFT for CPU, but Blend mode in Prime95 is far less efficicient than RAM mode in OCCT
Also, update OCCT to last beta. Just read this long thread, and you'll find the link.
My little advice, to new comers in OC world (yep, 30mn testing can't be claimed to be a stable OC)
Sorry, no one take it personal
Hi, could be typo slip, I did actually ring that company last week and asked for their revision number. The sales guy said he didn't know lol
Chris
finally got 3.6Ghz occt stable. the only voltage I had to change was the SB voltage from 1.1 to 1.12 to give me 1.15 actual(for USB to work right).
I should add that vista x64 installed with 4GB no problem.
My Ballstixs are not playing well with these motherboard at all. Sometimes I have to remove one stick to get the system to post.
WB have you tried 0701?
hey warboy is that 2x1GB or 4x1GB?
I have just put my new board in the case and hooked everything up. I cannot find the connector to the front audio/mic connections. The manual mentions how to set the bios settings, but I did not see any reference to the connector on the MB.
Thanks Kup for the quick response. I was looking on the board and not there. Didn't see it in the manual either. Thanks again.
To test system stability would it be best to stress it out to the max? When I run Prime95 or OCCT I can still perform most simple computer tasks. But if I start OCCT's CPU and RAM test, and then Prime95's Blend, I can't do much of anything. I don't really know if this works to know how stable my system is running. I'm just thinking if there would be a problem that’s when you would know.
you can change the priority level in OCCT.
Yea mine are the same. I actually had to buy a stick of value RAM to get this motherboard to POST for the first time.
The reason is that Ballistix need more voltage than 1.8V (DDR2 standard) so I have to install 1 stick of DDR2-667 Kingston Value RAM, POST, go to the BIOS and set the VDIMM to 2.16, reboot, enter the BIOS to check the VDIMM, then hard shutdown and install my 4 sticks of Ballistix. It WILL NOT boot any other way for me!
omg i have to agree with that changes in the asus web...
http://www.asus.com/999/images/products/1850/1850_l.jpg
Its probably just a revised heatsink though. Might even be the elusive REV. 1.03G :D
bah i hate this went it happen btw new bios up....0802
ftp://ftp.asus.com.tw/pub/ASUS/mb/so...ula/MF0802.zip
Memtest will only test, not stess, it does some read/write routines and blocks. If there are some physical damage it will show easier in Memtest as it can test quiet all the RAM when launched from a boot CD.
Prime in Blend mode or even Large FFT, and OCCTP in RAM mode, will both stress the RAM-NB: just look at the heat on the NB and your RAM sticks generated by OCCT. But, they can't physically test all the ram as they run under windows, so they can't access certain memory areas reserved or alrady occupied
BIOS v0802, it's not up on US sirte yet. as of right now , 12:45AM on 11-19-07. Where did you guys find it? ASUS BIOS history list it as latest but not showing as available to download yet.
As for that RAM issue on this mobo. Half the problems you guys are having is likely the Strap and RAM deviders.
@ the guy who "I can't even post at 2.6volts with 4-4-4-4 timing and a clock of 1050mhz no matter what memory strap.". 1st off, that's a lot of volts for this RAM. I have the same and 2.34v is pretty hot already unless you're gonna go water or heatpipe w/ extreme fans. 2nd, if on BIOS v0701 still, I couldn't get anywhere with manual strap with 1:1. Had to leave strap and RAM frequency in Auto to get it to POST and get 1:1 (confirmed in CPU-Z). Also, if you're looking to OC on this, stick with 2 sticks of 1 g each for 2gb kit total for best OC stability and goopd timings and performance. 4 sticks can work but w/ reduced timings and of corse not best for OC'n too high. Just my experince on past few Itel chipsets.
Good luck!
omg...*smacks forehead*
I have no idea OMGZ i'm so wrong about everything OC. Someone should assassinate me. /sarcasm off
You are just feeding me common knowledge...You know these right? If you look at my P5K records, I was able to get 1350Mhz 2.5 volts easy, 5-6-6-17 timings.
And Yes If you read though these thread I have Hardcore air cooling. I got a 8800GTX to idle at just 40C with stock cooling. A Highly overclocked Quad to run at 27C, So please....
I have 2 x 1GB sticks...I've stated that a few pages back too.
"4-4-4-4 timing"
I don't see it being possible.
3-3-3-6 and 4-4-4-8 i've no problems with
So, bios 0802, how is it? Quads overclocking any better? Higher FSB?
I've no idea what i did differnt or went went wrong but BIOS only allowed 2 cores, then i uped it to 520FSB and only 1 core showed!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...#37;20G0/2.jpg
Then i got it working and my max so far
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...600%20G0/3.jpg
701 BIOS still, my 1st 500FSB with this bord!
Can ya call me dude please? Just friday is exactly 12 month ago i lost my little bro so bit raw!
I've really no idea how the hell i got 500FSB, l;east i know my bord can and will do it i guess, but more so i wana know why it didn't do it with all 4's.
I think i got it writen down so i will try and find it, be latter as im off to the hopsital for my post op checkup

I haven't checked any of the other straps yet. I hope I can finally get stable using a divider on the 333 Strap that would definitely help memory speed.
Life has to go on
Dude don't worry about, Pete, dude, fella, guv, gav, gezza, anything and everything but bro is cool man. Really don't worry about it, take a lot to p me off like this mobo, least i got 500FSB out it at last
0802 still seems to have the divider issues somewhat.... I am still reworking..
Any change logs yet? they must have loosened the NB timings again, or changed the way the performance options work because now I can boot with DRAM STATIC READ and DRAM CLOCK TWISTER set to Enabled/STRONG.... had to set Transaction Booster to Disabled (1) to get it stable.
My speeds went up at 450x8 DDR2 900 4-4-4-8-3-25-3-3-7-5-4-6-4-6
No good news.
with all bioses incl. 0802, i can not boot a stable vista x64 system with:
4x 1 GB Corsair Twinx2048 XMS2-6400-C4@400 MHz@ 2.1V@5-5-5-18
(2 Kits)
If only 1 Kit are installes (= 2 GB) System and Board works very fine.
Anybody using a Creative soundcard in the first pci slot?
Thanks
Hi, this 0802 bios seems better for me, dialed in 375x9 and it booted. I haven't had to change any other settings from my 356cx9, vcore is 1.34 according to probe and temps seem fine. Never been able to get this oc without silly voltages before so fingers crossed...
Chris
I cant wait to my e6850 so I can start playing around with this board. Anyone have good results with one? I'm receiving a L719B.
The 1:1 divider is broken for me in 0802... If I set FSB to 450MHz, Strap to 400MHz and ram to 900MHz (exact copy of Anandtech settings) it refuses to boot. If however I set the strap and the ram MHz to Auto it's boots @ 1:1 anyway...
0505 didn't do this for me...? I'm not fussed about whether it's on Auto or not, more that they seem to have broken more than I can see they've fixed...
I am able to boot 500*8 no issues with my 6850. Very easy to work with on this board.
Are the DImm slots just like the P5K deluxe , that the black dimms where better then the yellow dimms for overclocking, so on this board white/blue, any difference? And are the Crucial ballistix really that bad on this board? Because I got very nice pair that can do 1200 5-5-5-12 @ 2.05v , so I want to pick another pair. I can get most likely the same batch as I bought mine recently , so would 1000/1200mhz for 4x1GB , if they can do 1200 5-5-5-12 @ 2.05v @ 2x1GB , possible on this board with sub 2.15v-2.20 volts? Or should I get a 2x2GB Gskill 8000 instead:X
I'll Second that! Well, until I start overclocking, but I don't think its anything to do with the Prelude!! :p:
Ok, quick silly question of the day guys. My C2D e6550 has a 1.35V moniker on the box. Is this what I should run it at or is this the max I should run it at?? I have been trying to get the voltages down accross the board(no pun intended) and its currently at 1.30V ?? Although PC probe reports it as 1.28V... :shakes:
Hi, I could already, however my CPU temps were in the 80c mark. I've a NB/SB prepped motherboard waiting to go in, a ThermoChill PA120.3 120mm Triple Radiator with three Scythe S-FLEX 1600RPM Ultra Quiet 120mm Fans to replace my Swiftech MCR220 Radiator. Once all of that is in I may be able to hit 3.6....
ChrisC
Again, so asside form the link, where is the actual BIOS v0802 from? It's just nice to kow where the link we're folling is from. So I take it these ROMs are not region dependent since everybody just follows the link and flashes and hopes for the best Thankx.
@Pete, "I've really no idea how the hell i got 500FSB, l;east i know my bord can and will do it i guess, but more so i wana know why it didn't do it with all 4's.". Look @ my post, you'll see that since BIOS v0401 (origional for me in US on 10-11-07) I had 500x8 in moments. So Yes, this bobo is easily and stable to 500x, he muli an dso is limited to your CPU, and a lot and since a lot of you guys are using quads, it's gonna' take a bit more to et hat kind of FSB out of them. A lil bit of GTL can help along w/ some more FSBT. Workde for me on P5K Deluxe. As for the RAM, try 1:1 w/ less timings as before. 500x is gonna' be DDR1000 so that should be just as good, if not better then loose DDR1200. Besides, this mobo doesnt do 1200 in alll 4 slots. 4 slots of DDR1000 should be good to go.
@ mXpS, That E6850 should be great on this mobo. You should see that 500x7 is a snap w/ low temps and vcore. Keep us posted.
@Kup, "I f however I set the strap and the ram MHz to Auto it's boots @ 1:1 anyway..." This exactly what I pointed out for v0701, 0602 was fine for certain variables.
Still stuck @ 1066MHz on the 400FSB Strap (4:3) w/ 0802.
I haven't seen any improvement w/ this BIOS but will wait for the change log before going back to 0602.
Well i'm officially fed up. I can't get my E6550 above 450x7 now. I suppose 3.15ghz out of a 2.33ghz ain't bad, though I was hoping to get to the magic 500fsb = 3.5ghz! Never mind.
I can't even see 0701 BIOS from ASUS's site! 0602 is the latest BIOS shown. What is up with this?
I finally got the High-End 400mhz Strap to work right, Got my memory clocked at almost 1200mhz right now. Sweet.
warboy, which bios?
I'm using BIOS 602 and whenever i try to go above 445 FSB on a 9x multiplier, I get a BSOD. Is it a BIOS issue? Any ideas?
Here is the CPU-Z Validation with some info in it. Here

Notice the Auto settings of FSB strap and RAM Frequency. In this BIOS v0802, I cannot use anything outside of Auto to keep 1:1 so unless, you must have deviders, then Auto is fine for 1:1. Also since every mobo is different, try to adjust the settings as marked by "*". Try DRAM Clock Twister to Light or Auto , or Static REad Control to Auto (this does return better strap scaling for FSB over 450 if strap is left in Auto). Keep RAM Booster to Disable but relax 1, 2 or so on, as needed for stability under overclocking (anything other then "0" does effect RAM scores). CPU, PLL, & vdimm can be tweaked as needed for your components. Settings were the same since BIOS v0401 except I could manual strap and set DRAM Frequency as fixed, although it made no noticable difference for me. Even w/ strap in Auto, RAM deviders are just grouped together in a bigger menu.
Can you E6750 or E6850 users let me know how this works for your mobo?
Hope this helps!
I just flashed to 802 bios, and now my system is not posting, with DET DRAM freezed on the LCD poster...
Can anyone help me?

Change the Strap to Auto. Also the ram freq'! It seems to be a bug with this bios...
I am seriously contemplating selling this board, I've had it...
Strap and RAM frequency? Yes, it seams to be a bug in this v0802 and BETA v0701. It was fine in V0602. I think most of the current fixes were focused on FSB/DRAM ratios outside of stable 1:1 since most are thriving that high memory clock speed to lower CPU FSB. So for us high CPU/Mobo FSB overclocker, Auto is fine since it seams to fix as 1:1 anywayz. I did however, get 5:6 as DDR1200 in 500x7 so that works if strap is left in "Auto", since as far as I can see, the various deviders of the other straps are all combined now, untill you fix to a manual strap. Again, I cant say I see a differance of this for the native 1333 CPU's. It did help back when using these 1333 CPU's on !975X mobos, if fixed to 1066.
thanks for the OC bios's
