Anyone know if 1705 BIOS cures the QX6700 multiplier problem?

Anyone done this already ?
I am interested :D. If I can I will try and tell u :D. I had uCode with 1506 and 1602 problem, I hop I will not have the same error with 1705. I have send an email to Asus support asking them why my CPU is supported (of course with the multiplier error :() in 1407 BIOS and it is not supported in the newest BIOS. Waiting for an answer...Quote:

My QX6700 works fine with 1602 - although I can't increase the multiplier on all cores. It should work fine otherwise. there is an option you need to set in one of the screns to enable microcode updates.Quote:

Hi,
I have been reading the manual ram timings problem this mobo has with great interest and the email lawrywild sent to Asus clearly explained what the issue is.
However, from the response, Asus are just not listening so I wonder if it's possible to raise this issue as a 'main page' issue on the parent site so it gets full exposure and hopefully a direct response as to why Asus are not able to release a BIOS with the tRFC option or an explanation as to why the board cannot set manual ram timings over 360MHz.
Sorry if this has been tried or mentioned before but I and many others bought this board for overclocking and its simply a bit of a let down after buying expensive ram...
I tried emailing Asus myself to request that my message (about the manual settings = no boot) be passed on to the BIOS engineers but alas I just got a response from ZYC telling me to increase RAM voltage.
I know a very popular website (won't mention name in case of any rules) raised BIOS issues with a Gigabyte board not so long ago and basically they (Gigabyte)delivered a superb BIOS in the end.
Cheers.
I think it's a good idea, we need to speak with Fugger I guess
Well it would have my support behind it, the P5WDH BIOS's at the moment are really a POS for a £150 board.
where can i DL the 1705?
i have lost my god links to the 2 pages i have had.
QX6700 installed on P5WDH (early MCH 1.65vdc board) - BIOS: 1705
- mild OC to 3.0G (FSB: 300)
- slight memory I/O loss; from 6290/6279 to 6023/6089
- processor a bit warmer than expected at approx 80% load, all cores
- amb temp: 21c/69.8f
TMPG XPress v4.2.3.193
- transcode MPEG2 320x480 to 720x480 DVD rate
- about 45% faster than E6700 @ 3.0G
1st post of this thread I uploaded itQuote:

Many thanks! If you can even get to x11 on all 4 cores (you will need to use CPU-Z to check each of the cores) I'll be over the moon!Quote:

One thing worth mentioning is that the motherboard was slightly bent when the Big Typhoon was on, maybe I should remove the cpu "cover" and see if that helps?

I have the ultra 120 and my temps went down a few celcius not up. I put the thermal paste on according to a link I had seen somewhere a small amount down the center of the cpu. Are you using a recommended fan on the heat sink? I asked the sales guy what would be a good fan for the heatsink and he added it to my purchase so I don t know what type I am using. As for removing the cpu cover? if its the metal cap I would recommend against doing that. If you have a tower, rese your heat sink and let it lay flat see if the contact on the cpu is any better. With this heatsink your temps should be lower Good luck.Quote:

I went from the Big Typhoon to the Ultra 120 with a very slight reduction in temps.
However I like the mounting mechanics much better with the Ultra 120 and was able to run a 1200 cfm fan vs. a 1600 with the BT to get the slightly lower temps.
I put thin washers under each fastener to get tighter compresssion with the Ultra 120.

I'm going mad trying to set this system up.
My system is:
Asus P5W DH
Asus 7900GTX
corsia value select 667 1GB x2
BIOS 1705
The problem is when I setup the system install all Asus drivers etc. When it comes to loading the nvidia driver the screen goes blank.
I have tried different BIOS and various nvidia drivers but always get a blank screen when I install the nvidia driver. I have to reset the system in safe mode then uninstall the nvidia driver to get the system back.
Can someone plz help.. Is this graphics card compatible with P5w?
Thanks
:(
Yes, it's compatible.
My GTO (identical to GTX) is flashed with GTX bios and works very very well (PEG link @ FASTER is very nice)
How did u flash the GTO? can I flash my card? where did u dl the bios from?
you can find lots of vga bioses @ www.mvktech.net.
I used the 7900GTX.ROM that johnnyliu posted a while back
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...7&postcount=19
Thanks a million but the files no longer available there... :( can you provide me with another link
It is, I just downloaded it again...
You click Free at the bottom and then wait the time it says
Then you type the letters from the pic into the box and click download. (it times out if you don't type the letters in within a certain period of time)
COOL Thanks
Well I upgraded the card and installed the latest nvidia drivers and I get a blank screen! same problem... what driver are u using?
Hold on, you already had a 7900GTX bios on the card? Why did you flash it? lol
I hope you have the old bios to flash back with in event of warranty..
Anyway, tried other DVI port? Different drivers?
Yes I did, I tried the other DVI and drivers... it must be the card... wat driver are u using

Hi,
i need some help please.
i have the Asus P5W DH dlx mobo ith a E6600 cpu.
2 - 500 gig hdrives sata ii
2 - 250 gig sata ii hdrives
1 - Raptor
1 - liteon DVD]
1 plextor 760A DVD burner
2 gigs Consair mem
more but that should be enough
..
set up
i have the boot raptor as SaTa1 (ICH7R) SATA3 & SATA4 the 2 500 giggers
ICH7R Ide port master = lite-on burner
--
the 2 250 giggers i have on EZRaid & EZraid2
the plextor ide dvd burner on the Jmicron ide connector PR_Eide
ICH7R defined as Raid set up the 2 500 giggers as Raid0
Jmicron setting Raid/ACHI (AHCI) whichever
Now i can see the plextor hooked to the jmicro ide as i boot and iut even shows up in the bios as a possible boot device but i dont see the drive in winbloze looking in devices i see 2 JMicron JB36X Raid drivers one with exclamation point. ist there suppose2 be another JMdriver 4 the ide DVD?
Also when i set BootRom to disabled (still with Raid setting) changes the drives i see as bootable devices and the Raotor boot drive is no longer seen in the bootable device settings..
When i set the JMcron controller mode to Basic with the plextor dvd hooked up the system just hangsforever.
i only can get into te jmicron controller bios when i plug another drive to theEsata port then i can get into the Jmicron bios butthe 2 - 250 giggers never appear only the external drive..
i have the raid sel jumper set at raid0...
any info is certainly appreciated
thank you
Dunno if this effects anyone, but i used to get a CPU ucode error, flashed to 1705 and WOMPH, it's all gone! Happyness is.
I suspect that your uCode error was cause by no ES uCodes in bios, dunno why they would put them in 1705 though..
Probably, who cares though, ES users rejoice, we don't have to press F1 everytime we want to boot our damn PC's!
Hey all
I've just received my new system (2 days ago) but cannot get my 4th drive connected.
this is my setup how i received from the store;
Raptor and 2 samsungs on the normal sata connectors
1 samsung on the Jmicron connector(near Cpu)
In the bios it says: not connected , 4th master
I also could not instal the Jmicron drivers from asus cd supplied with mobo.
It gives an error after rebooting, so i removed the software.
Maybe thats why i get a message after bios boot from Jmicron; it names that samsung disk and xp does start up after that.
Can anybody help me with this?
Can i connect 4 drives on this mobo, no raid just normal ?
Thanks a lot
Hey umm I think i might have found a fix for people like myself with
corsair 8500C5 Ram modules
go to
http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1129333
and there is a file ive done it now and my Spd tables are correct now and i can boot from SPd and its auto set to Pc8500 5-5-5-15
so ima try and go up to 400mhz and see what happens
well unfortunately no luck but on the up side at least my Spd tables actually work now
what doesnt make sense to me is that all of the ram modules that you guys are using actually have the Same IC's as teh 8500C :S
http://ramlist.ath.cx/ddr2/
I have a question btw if anyone can help me out
Atm im running my Core2 E6600 @ 333mhz*9 = 3000mhz @ 1.35 Vcore
http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=144864
and the Temps are
idle
Core 1 33 oC
Core 2 33 oC
and probe reports the temerature at 24 oC - 28 oC idle
now when it goes to load while using orthos it Jumps dramatically and i was wondering wtf is up
like the CPu goes from 24oC in probe to 61
and the cores are hitting 70 im just wondering if thats ok ?
or do i need to get AS5 asap ?
by "do I need AS5", do you mean you're not using thermal paste at all?
no ofcourse im using thermal paste that would be silly not to cause the cpu would probably die instantly
what im asking is should i switch to AS5 asap because of the high core temps using orthos /?
What CPU Cooler are you using?Quote:

If it's readily available to you, you should apply it as soon as possible along with a better cpu cooler. At first you will see little change over the other thermal paste upon applying, but after several days after the burnin/breakin period is over, you will see the temps drop. And usually when you stress test and at a low voltage, the temps aren't suppose to jump that high unless the cooler isn't sufficient.
ie:
my idle: 25-28C
stress: 40-50>C
it never goes over 50C>

I am having a lot of trouble running memory dividers with my p5w dh.. I got some nice ballisitix pc2-8000 and was thinking I would up the divider to run my mems @ 972 (rather than 778) 4:5 divider I think.. anyways, I'll be damned if I can't get it to work.. running the dimm voltage @ 2.2 and timings @ 5-5-5-15, which is spec for those @ ddr1000... anyways.. do I need to set timins by speed or something? or disable hyper path? hrm........
i am getting these errors on my mems. could the mobo be the culprit?

Tbh im using a really crappy cooler at the moment like i havent even used the Intel one yet so i might put that on but i dunno if it would do any better as this ones fan spins a little faster at 2596 rpm and isnt the intel one 1500 rpm ?
btw when i say under load i mean ORthos on small FTT's
when it comes to games i.e Supreme commander, Company of heroes, Battle for middle earth 2, Ghost recon advanced warfighter
the temps never raise above 48oC ??
Hey, well i can overclock my e6600 to 3.0ghz on stock voltage, but in order to get ~3.5ghz i need to up the voltage to 1.5v (ive only done this for quick runs to get a superpi time) but i find it a bit odd seeing as so many other people seem to be getting around the 3.3 or more at lower voltages...
Its a ... *checks box* l624, not sure where to get the week number.
Anyway in my bios i got all the settings done and everything, and all mobo settings up on max, maximum ive been able to get was an fsb of 393x9. I also noticed that around the 380s, that putting my vcore up made no difference but putting the mch (if i remember right) made it boot to windows.
So basically i was wondering, if its worth getting a northbridge cooler and it seems that you guys recommended the AK 161 BL-S Cool Blue Fan, which brings me to my next question, how easy is it to install this?
One more n00b question... the northbridge is the part to the left of the cpu correct? So what would the thing to the north be...
Consider yourself lucky that your week24 clocks that good..Quote:

Oh so that's how you get the week...
My box says my E6600 is Batch# L628A724 made in Malaysia.
So from that I can deduce that it's a Batch A processor made in week 28?
And I'm guessing this batch doesn't overclock very well (temperature wise) based on my results.
How good is L629?.......which is mine  :)
I was able to get 3.8ghz on my week 29 E6600 using a Freezone CPU cooler...and 1.625v...on my Infinity 975. Haven't bothered to push this P5W with an E6700 and a monsoon II. Temps are horrible...Quote:

well the intel cooler itself is a decent cooler but there are others out there that are better... the performance of a cpu cooler depends on how the quality/type of the heatsink (copper, alluminum etc...) once the heat travels to the heatsink it heats up so you it all comes down to the fan... the performance of the fan is measured in cfm... the higher the cfm the more airflow you will getQuote:

yeah thats what i also meant about stress running orthos on small ffts and it never goes over 50C>
I can't believe they still don't have subtimings in the BIOS.. this board is useless to me right now. I hope the DFI lanparty core 2 duo version comes out soon so I can sell this and actually overclock my memory. :(
Believe it bud...I've mainly had nothing but DFI boards for the past year and a half and been nothing but disappointed with the Asus boards I've tried recently...Quote:

That's the highest FSB I could got.
MHC: 1,75
FSB: 1,4
VCore and ICH: default
Even if I set 1,85 in MHC it can't go higher :(
Just bought P5W DH cuz my G.Skill memos are not compatible with P965 MoBos.
I see so many people with memory issues. it ought to be fairly clear by now that G.Skill 6400HZ has NO issues when coupled with this board! It runs tight and fast. I just set it at 2.4V with a fan on it to keep it cool 3 months ago. I have messed with other settings but this mem likes the CL of 3 and the higher volts, just keep it cool. As you can see i don't set for max performance, it makes plenty. This is my main system and it lives in a nice case I designed and is full functional 24/7. I love this set up. I just hate to see so many playing musical motherboards jumping from board to board before they get all they can from what they already have. I have noticed when they get the new board that the grass is most often not any greener.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...Zilla/pi32.jpg
The board and the memory get along.
So its more of a cpu wall than an fsb one? :(Quote:

That sucks... luck of the draw then, and no... its not at all stable at 3.54ghz at 1.52v meeh i shall live with it being at 3.0ghz with stock volts, still a pretty big overclock just sucks seeing all these guys getting so much higher on air cooling.
guys, I am trying to OC my RAM ... its 667 and I want to run it at 800 at least ... stock volt is 1.8V, ram can handle up to 2.0 without any probs according to manufacturer.
timings are crap ... at 667 they are 5-5-5-10 and I set them manually.
if I want to run it at 800, do I need to set it to auto in BIOS ? I tried it with the above but it only booted into windows and then crash (BSOD).
I thought those timings are pretty high already ... , would loosening tRAS work? maybe 5-5-5-15 ? I was afraid to change it as I dont want to corrupt my drive (happened before).
Usually when I think my OS gets corrupt (file/folder missing error) when I switch back to stable timings it all runs fine
WeldZilla, which bios are you using?
I am currently using 1705. I have had no problems with any bios since 1305. For me 1305, 1602 and now 1705 have been the best. I have not had 1705 long enough to know yet but, so far if there has been a best bios for my system it has been 1305. I will tell you though so far I am very happy with this new one. I'll know more in a few days.
