asus released a bios that makes older revisions capable of 200fsb,anyway,my whole system is watercooled and on the cpu i got peltier watercooling.I even tried switching slots for the ram etc.A7n8x faster than any other board out there?give me a break :S even rev2 gives very bad overclocking results compared to nf7-s or Dfi lanparty.As for the southbridge,i've even added a passive heatsink,no change.
he said best performance from the same settings so a 200fsb asus is faster than a 200fsb abit. Dunno if thats true but just wanted to say :D

If that's not important, why are your overclocking? Is there any app that doesn't run fast enough? ;)
The Asus is way faster than the Abit, at least when you compare it clock-per-clock. Run a test on both boards, with all settings maxed (aggressive CPU interface, 2-11-2-2 mem timings, etc) and the Asus wins it all easy. E.g. the Sisoft memory bandwidth test, I've seen Asus boards being clocked 5-10FSB lower than an NF7-S, and still beating it in terms of bandwidth.
That's what I call performance, and the difference is not tiny at all!
About your mobo: I'm 99% sure the thing WILL go faster, even my old crappy 1.04 did 210FSB DC. The thing is, there's just lots of factors to be considered.
Try:
- different BIOSses (I'd recommend 1004-1006, as 1007 no longer offers the CPU interface feature)
- moving the CPU_FSB jumper
- moving mem around (did u try ALL combinations and reset BIOS?)
- other mem timings (some people report stability issues on 2-11-3-3, yet a stable system on 2-11-2-2)
- try a different CPU (some CPU's are known to do very well on one board, yet won't oc at all on another)
Is your PSU powerfull enough? Especially when overclocking, the Barton's need juice real bad :)
I measure my 12v on the board at a minimum of 12.59V (yes, BELOW spec!) when overclocked, yet the BIOS states it's 12.06v (which is actually the value at the molex). And my PSU was rock stable on my old P4 - it's an Antec 480W.
Have u measured Vdd? To get over 215, most Asus boards (rev2 and pre-rev2) need more juice to the chipset, as it sometimes is a bit below the default of 1.6v.
About that BIOS update u did: are u sure it officially supports 200FSB? Do u have a link from Asus or anything? Cause nVidia only started to support 200Mhz for the 400 Ultra chipsets, which can only be found on rev 2.0 boards.
If they support it and it won't do it, you can always send it back right?
But, in the end, what I'm saying is: Don't give up on this board yet. It might act weird at first, but once you get to know it, it's a real nice board. It took me at least 2 months before I got to its max, had times I was ready to smash it too cause I couldn't run above 200Mhz...
Fact is that it wont give any option to raise the chipset voltage,and that sucks,i dont want to mod it.It also gives very low voltages for the CPU and RAM...its not for overclocking.Ill prolly swap it for DFI LANPARTY NFII B.She gives 2volts cpu,3.3 instead of 2.9 for RAM and 2volts for chipset if i am correct..If there's a bios that gives you the choice to give more volts ill keep it,but since smthing like that doesnt exist..ill pass
Oh and yes i tried the FSB jumper,same s**t,yes i tried different slots for the ram and even tried very "relaxed" timings,no change,sorry but i only got 1 cpu and i prefer to keep that than the motherboard.it seems a good overclocker,its a thoro b.As for the psu,its the ANTEC 480W TRUE BLUE.I also tried all available bioses.It needs more volts on the chipset otherwise it wont make it,and i have a rev1.4 that isnt made for 200mhz in the first place.If you go on the asus site,ull see on the bios releases,that one of the bioses for older releases adds support for 3200+ cpu...well that means it adds support for 200mhz.

I agree the board isn't made for overclockers by default, but I know some people hitting insane FSB's and Sisoft memscores (250FSB/3990 MB/s), modded ofcourse. I myself am not so lucky, as I have a very early 2.0, and will only do 225 at the fastest memtimings. Can get to as high as 235 but ony at 2,5-11-3-2. And no, mem is not the problem, goes all the way to 245 at least ;)
Btw have just re-modded my current CPU so it would be 166FSB default again, and now I'm sure the MP selection problem (10/10.5 not stable or not booting at all) is cause by a combination of CPU, chipset and CPU_FSB jumper. At 133/166 I can use those MP's, at 100 it won't boot.
Another 2500+ has no problem whatsoever with them, it's really weird. Aw hell I'm happy :)
Well if it was a rev2.0 i would keep it and mod it,but since modding it will only make it go like a default rev2 considering the best results...i prefer to change it and since i want to overclock,ill get a board made for overclockers.The DFI is said to be the fastest of all.
Small update! Got my system running stable at 2400 Mhz, 228FSB * 10.5. Today I upped my mem voltage to 3.25v, now running stable at 336 * 10! Chipset voltage is 1.93v even, so I should be able to get well over 240FSB on 2.1v. Mem @ 2-11-2-2 btw.
But hey I'm happy with this, don't wanna up the Vdd too much for 24/7 usage :)

I've had this board over 2 months now, and only now, after hours and hours of tweaking, I got it to run nice. Still my membench is too low, also affecting my Pifast performance. Gonna try another driver, cause I think the 3.13's are the problem.
Nice results,u've done all possible mods on it and finally made it an overclockers board ;) Well done!I would lose the time to do it,if it was a rev2.0...but my sucky 1.4 just aint worth it.
Wouldn't say that atm, I know your oc-ing results aren't really good, but this rev2 board has a NB that's older than my 1.4 board had, and wouldn'y (at first) go as high as my 1.4 board did.
I only kept it because I had it already installed and had to trade me 1.4 for it, so had to make up my mind quick.

The only thing holding me back is the CPU, which will only do 2400 Mhz Primestable :( If I had one that did over 2500Mhz, both scores would've been much better. But still, when I compare these times to others, I can compete with people running 2500+Mhz on Abit or Epox boards. The Asus just is really fast ;)
Man i wish i could have those results as well..mine doesnt wanna know anything for going over 198 FSB..it just sux...

I wonder about getting an AN8X Deluxe that's 7 months old. So how's these? Is easy to get 230+ FSB with high MP? Are the newer boards better?
