I called Tekram, where I bought my battery and 4G module at 714.961.0800. They quoted me $10 for the unit and said it was in stock.

Computurd, did you ever post iometer results with the scsi driver?
Do you have a link for where you got the copper HSF for the expander chip?
Also does RoC use the same size? I just ordered my 1880ix tonight so i dont have it yet :)
Did yours come with pushpins and/or screws? What should i use to attach it? Do i need thermal pads or will CPU thermal paste work? Sorry for all the questions I have never done 3rd party cooling on anything other than a CPU.
heres a thread....jut wade through it and try to sift out the important stuff! this was my first foray into watercooling something of this nature, so i come off like the total noobsauce that i am. dude if they can get me through it anyone is good!
Thank God this site has the most experienced and well versed, and shall i say, PATIENT, guys over there in watercooling! they just cant be beat.

Today, after saving for almost a year, I finally ordered my ARC-1880ix-24!!!
I plan on hooking 8 Hitachi 7K3000 3TB disks on it in a RAID6 configuration.
The main purpose of my home data server is storing all of my Blu-Ray's and DVD's so I can easily stream them to my HTPC.
Now I know a bit about computers and data storage but I'm definitely not an expert like most of the people here :)
So I wanted to ask if there are any tips on what settings and values I should use to configure this card so that I'm prepared when the beauty finally arrives (order was going to take 2 weeks).
Like I said, I would like to use a RAID6 config and reliability is much more important for me than speed.
I'm guessing speed will improve alot for me since I'm currently running a RAID5 with 5 disks on a ICH10
Also would the 4GB memory upgrade be usefull for my setup and use?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!
anyone know how many crucial M-4 SSD's it would take to max out the 1880 card??
in theory of course
If you'll be using it for mostly data archival I would've suggested getting an 1880i + SAS expander (Intel or HP) for half the price, but OTOH you can't really go wrong with an 1880ix-24 assuming you can swallow the cost - the integrated expander (LSISAS2x36) is best in class. 4GB upgrade to cache also isn't going to be a big help with the planned usage pattern you're describing - mostly large sequential files like video. Where a cache upgrade becomes a performance multiplier is in frequently accessed data. So if you were planning on running your system volume (C drive) off the Areca, as well as maybe some VM's on Hyper-V, then a cache upgrade would be more noticeable.
Unless you've already purchased the harddisks I would strongly consider the Hitachi 2TB 5K3000 (readily available for $70). It's tops right now for data archival in terms of cost/GB, running cool and working flawlessly on hardware raid cards. Only reason to spend $180 for a Hitachi 3TB at this point is if you're tight on space.
Second the recommendation on Hitachi. Very solid drives IME.
New areca 1880 beta firmware :D
ftp://ftp.areca.com.tw/RaidCards/BIO...a/Build110218/
Areca said they would come with some firmware with better performance. Is this it?
nice nice find nizzen. what do you think? have you tested yet?
I do not have a direct compare with old firmware now. But here is some strange result:
Iometer 4k random read 12gb testfile 4k align. I thought 12gb was enough for avoid the cache?
Need to upgrade the on-board expander firmware also?
ftp://ftp.areca.com.tw/RaidCards/BIO...xpander/100923 1.03 B3/
that may not be a strange result....that may be an Excellent result! :)
or on the other hand, are you using read ahead?
wow, are the results reproducing themselves? i may just need to fire up my 1880 real fast and test this :)
what drives r u using niz?
im hiting 31mb/s with intels same config.
i have notice something with areca u cant escape from cache easly :P
How are those chipset coolers working out for you Bill? Do you still need an active fan pointed at the card or can it stand on its own now?
I have a silent fan plowing air on that area of the case ...
It's in my HTPC and the airflow sucks, the case is pretty warm to touch
the temps are in the lower 50s but it is hot in the case
4 intel g1s
write is really slow
http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...ntitled-15.png
yes that write is abysmal. are you using write caching?
Turn on HDD read ahead cache, there is no reason to disable it.
I think those drives are in heavy used state or something.
Free space cleaner?
The only way to fully restore G1s are HDDerase'ing them and never use utilities like "wiper" or cleaners, the G1s won't respond the way you hoped.
It looks like your drives are in steady state so performance won't get worse, it might improve a bit with some large writes but HDDerase them if you'd want performance back right now.
seems like my 1880ix is bricked!
I cant get it to even load to the firmware, computer just reboots?!?
