Just a thought ... try to boot with the keyboard attached but when it stops start pressing keys ... F1, Esc, Enter etc. The manual says something about waiting for you to press an "appropriate key" ... whatever that might be.

Uh, I got these differing results instead(see below), though I'm not sure what error it refers to...
The document is a little confusing if you read through it quick (I came up with 0x4C the first time as well), but if you read through it again you'll realize the green and red LED arrays each individually define a nibble(4 bits) of the code, versus each tri-color LED representing a pair of bits in the code.
Code:Upper Nibble (Red LED array): 0010 => 0x2
Lower Nibble (Green LED array): 1010 => 0xA
=> 0x2A Post Code
ok, did a keyboard 'mash' at power-up, no go still
Apparently there was a bug fixed in Build 0013: RC01.01 that caused a long delay with blank screen, have you tried just leaving it for a while?
Ok ... left field guess. If the fan on CPU2 plugged in properly?
Not sure :(
It's a port 80 POST code, but I don't know how much they vary from board to board...
For Intel's desktop boards it's supposed to refer to something having to do with the chipset/memory, at least that's what this page says, but I don't know if they switch it around for the servers boards or not.
Some of the other lists just have it as reserved, so it's even more unknown I guess.
hehe - see now ur gonna hate me...
lemme go from the top: this is the 2nd stick of ram i have had - i RMA'd the first, as I got the exact same error code with the 1st stick - I thought the 1st stick was DOA :yawn:
now.. the same error code, diff/new DIMM...
with the new DIMM I have not plugged in any CPU fan (for either CPU1 or CPU2).. nor have I plugged in a HDD
*however* I did try the 'full monty' with the 1st DIMM I had - & I mean everything, CPU fanS, HDD, keyboard, monitor - the works.. it brought about no change when I was dealing with the 1st DIMM...
:shrug:
I would have thought you could still get to the BIOS without a HDD.
Which slot are you putting the RAM module in? The manual mentions a possible error if it's in 1b instead of 1a (for a single stick)
Not plugging in the fans shouldn't make a difference, these CPUs are meant to run fanless most of the time...
Well, from I can tell those Intel boards use an AMI bios, so looking at their POST code document here returns:
So of course that PCI part stands out :-/Quote:
2A
Initialize different buses and perform the following functions: Reset, Detect, and Disable (function 0); Static Device Initialization (function 1); Boot Output Device Initialization (function 2). Function 0 disables all device nodes, PCI devices, and PnP ISA cards. It also assigns PCI bus numbers. Function 1 initializes all static devices that include manual configured onboard peripherals, memory and I/O decode windows in PCI-PCI bridges, and noncompliant PCI devices. Static resources are also reserved. Function 2 searches for and initializes any PnP, PCI, or AGP video devices.
EDIT: Would be nice to have one of those POST debug cards that displays all 16-bits of information (4 hex digits) so that you could tell what bus/area it is stuck on, as the upper byte is used to tell what sub-function it's on...
development!
it now turns on, then straight off again :shakes:
I think.. we'll call it a day fellas :( thank u very very muchly for all ur help :bows: - I envy those who can 'decypher' the error codes :toast:
in my PCI slot mod thread I already have written this lil adventure of as a fail :rolleyes:
thank u all again, greatly appreciated! :up:
Perhaps try pulling the extra slots out (gently of course) and try booting again?
No problem :)
Now that means I can finally go to bed, as it's already after 5am. One of these days I'll finally get to bed before 2am...
You are using a PSU with the extra 8 pin plug aren't you?
More than covers the highest rating, too. :shakes:
Time for bed for me. I'll keep mulling over this now too, dammit.
