Retail Abit IN9 32X-MAX - Pictures, observations and testing...

Yeap, I've tried both the power-hungry 8800GTS with its additional 6-pin cable, as well as a low-end Ati X600 with a passive cooler and no aditional power connectors.
Board is back on the table, out of the case, eliminating short circuit scenarios.

Also, the way I clear CMOS is the following:

1) Switch off the PSU
2) Unplug the power cord
3) Press the power button once to drain the flea power
4) Move the "EZ clear CMOS" button to the "clear" position (I also used the onboard jumper)
5) Remove the battery
6) Wait 5-10 mins (1 cigarette :) )
7) Reverse the steps before powering on (battery -> jumper -> power cable -> PSU switch)

I'm not doing anything wrong, right?

IF anything it's overkill but what the hell ;)

Hmmmm fire the e6700 back in just to confirm the board is still fine. The PSU should be more than capable of coping with the QX6700 and a lower power card makes no difference either. What do t he codes refer to in the manual (I don't have one handy :( )

I don't have it in front of me atm, but I checked last night and as far as I remember:
83 - Something about ATX power
8E - Something about PWM
87 - Something about Vcore check

Aaaatchchch......That was the mistake you did......You shouldn't smoke a cigarette during clear c-mos.....:D

Make a clear c-mos as you did, WITHOUT any CPU sloted.....

Well at some point my cigarette fell on the cpu socket and the mobo almost caught on fire, but I quickly emptied a can of fanta I had, to stop the fire. Do you think this could cause problems? :D

Jokes aside, I will try powering on the board w/o the proc and let you know ;)

im running beta 6 and i have problems whith the raids, 2 wd raptor and 2 seagates, the nvidia sentinel pops a mensage about "nvidia raid acess problem" anybody have a similar problem?

No problems on my end running four WD 250gb drives in raid 0...

Are you mixing those drives in a single array?

no 1 raid with the raptors and another raid with seagates both are raid 0 but 1 of the disc fails, but whitout oc there are no problem :shrug:

Try disabling link boost and manually set PCI-e frequencies to 100, 100, 100 and 200 respectively...

sorry for my ignorance but i'm new in intel and i dont know what is link boost, and ok the frecuencies are in auto i put it manually, thanks

Nothing worked. Pretty much both CPUs, PSUs and VGAs work in the AW9D.
Any other advices before I RMA this poj?

Let us know if that helped you so we can nail this sucker down...

I tried to install this board on Wednesday night. I had an experienced forum member familiar with Intel assisting me. We fussed with it for 4+ hours and it would not so much as post let alone boot. One error was A0>62>68>A0 that required a clear CMOS to remove. The precious few times it did boot it would not recognize my usb keyboard and mouse even tho I set them to "OS" in bios. I took it down and spent 5+ hours re-reading this entire thread (sheesh!) and don't even know where to begin.

I have two sites waiting on a review of this board so I need to try to get it to boot and be stable enough to review. I'll worry about overclocking it later. I can't even boot into windows (no keyboard or mouse support) to flash the latest beta 6 BIOS. Is the board bad? Should i consider rma'ing it?

I would really appreciate any advice anyone can give. Sheesh, I have Danger Den sending me NB/SB water blocks and my contact in Germany is working on that mosfet block from MIPS. I think this board has the potential to be beastly. . .but we have to work out some kinks first. FSB holes, HT voltages, uber hot pwm mosfets, etc.

Remove power cable, remove the battery, and do a reset.
when in bios, be sure to change your ram voltage to 2.2v cause the bios defaults to 1.85v.
Try using a normal keyboard and mouse.
flash to beta6.

Hows the new beta BIOS coming along?

sorry for no reply, but when i try to flash, go back to beta 2, gets a error and when i bot i have "bios cheksum error" and crash the bios, i waiting for rma

MIPS are having to redesign the Mosfet Block for the Abit IN9 will not be available for atleast 2 weeks.

MY board was not very stable when overclocking, & sometimes wouldn't boot @ stock without a few tries. Flashed the beta 6 bios & I'm now testing the FSB holes. So far 475 FSB was easy to get with minimal voltage increases. NB 1.45, SB 1.5, CPU VTT 1.2v HT 1.2v. I was trying to see how stable it is using an E6600 L627A, but I'm gonna have to switch back to the E6400 L628B194 to find out for sure. Beta 6 is a definite improvement over the shippin bios for me.:)

Did all that....complete reset...changed ram volts to 2.1 (I understand from Abit's forum that they believe the board over volts ram a bit), plugged in an old skool ps2 keyboard and mouse...got to windows and it still wouldn't recognise the keyboard or mouse. I can't flash to beta 6 if I can't use my keyboard.. .

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Well I replaced the BATTERY with one from another board, and while using BIOS Beta:5 I could not boot to windows, except with default settings. Afterworking with it all day, I finally was able to FLASH the Beta:06 BIOS. BUT THEN!!! the 2nd Battery died. HOLY MOLEY! I can't get the BIOS to hold any Settings that I set. It reads my DOMINATOR 8888's and my XMS28500-C5 as both running 533MHz. :( I think my board is draining my BATTERIES! I really wanted to get this ABIT 680i running with My Vapochill LS, but If I can't get it to run without draining the BIOS ROM Battery, then what is the use?
I am going to call around the area tommorow afternoon to see if I can find someone who has a couple of Batt's for sale, and try to see if I can get the board to work long enough to boot with OPTIMAL SETTINGS and maybe some overclocks aswell. I would like to get it to at least POST with 1333MHz FSB on a X10 for 3.33GHz on the Intel Stock Fan and Heatsink, before I go ahead and put the VapoChill on !!!
DOES ANYONE Know if RADIO SHACK carries these batteries???

WE JUST GOT 4 inches of snow and RADIO SHACK and WAL MART are the only stores safe enough to drive to. There is a BEST BUY and COMP USA in Lexington, but they are 25 miles away.

yeah, the shack and wal mart carry them, anywhere with a duracell stand or something will have the batteries in the rack.

hey guys, with the issues clearing cmos, i have found on my quad gt it's easy to clear cmos with power on by flipping the switch on the backplate, watch the post code reader it will read "CC" then flip it back and fire up, takes only a few seconds. If i pull power and such it makes cmos clear take much longer.

I am not sure if this board is the same, but it's worth a shot for you guys.

could anyone tell me if it would be possible to put those swift tech ram sinks on those little chips for the digital PWM and have it run properly? i want to water cool the north bridge but haven't for the life of me an idea of how to cool the PWM.

A little note about the hot PWM chat...

The PWM chips only run hot when they're not making good contact with the heatsink, which can occur if:

1. The heatsink has been removed and remounted
2. An after market cooler is installed for the cpu that causes the board the warp
3. The thermal pad has been compressed too much
4. you're not actively cooling the PWM heatsink with increased volts

If there is good contact then they usually won't go over 60oC with some active cooling (70mm fan in my case) all the way up to 1.65volts on a x6800. In fact I replaced mine with a chopped up P4 CPU copper cooler and now it maxes at 40oC. People seem to think that the new digital system runs stupidly hot as it is, this is not the case, its the heatsink mounting that is the crucial point.

Philly can you list your rig details so that I can get a feel for the setup maybe try and help :)
