Anyway, I am having the sameish issue as you. I dual primed 400X8 for 9 hours and ran SuperPi flawlessly yet the next day my computer won't turn on and after unplugging everything and waiting 10 minutes I can come back and it turns on but errors to "Your last overclock settings were unstable" but how? I just ran Prime and SuperPi PERFECTLY?

Either MSI gets a better bios or I start hunting for an Intel 590 board.

I am very excited since I primed 400X8 perfectly with 3-4-4-10 timings!

Another weird anomaly with this board. After running at 400x8@1.32V for the last couple days, my onboard LAN quit working. On bootup I'd get an error that the controller couldn't start and than when I got into Windows it would say the device wasn't working correctly. That was using 7.14B and when I flashed to 7.15, it seemed to fix the problem.

I haven't tried overclocking again so I don't know if the problem was permanently fixed with the new bios or if there is some issue with overclocking and the onboard LAN working correctly. I'll test over the next couple days and report back.

Agreed. Didn't mean for my post to sound like I thought otherwise. I've been doing all my overclocking through the bios. Didn't figure I'd test for stability with Clockgen quite yet ;)

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster =)
What temperatures in Core Temp is the maximum before you should be getting worried with air cooling? My C2D is reaching 60 degrees in Core Temp at full load (core center shows 42) is this ok?

What is your voltage, and cooling solution? imo I would trust core temp before I trust core center.

I'm at 1.38v 3.4GHz and have a Zalman CNPS 9500 cooler. What I'm most interested in is what temperature is the maximum for C2D in core temp since it reads so much higher than core center (and it rises and falls much faster as well).

I have the same cooler, for now. What is your idle temp? And which cpu are you running? It may be easier if you update your sig.

Idle temp is between 40 and 42. CPU is X6800 (I know it's really bad price/performance but it was the only Core processor available until October 1 and I needed a new system). 425MHz FSB, memory set to 1:1 (Corsair 4:4:4:12) standard voltage on everything else.

Is the temp normal for full load in Core Temp? What temp do u have in your system at full load?

(trying to update sig as soon as I leave work)

My idle temps are very similar to yours at the same voltage at idle. I haven't put mine under full load yet, I will do that tonight and let you know. I would suggest getting a better cooler. btw at what multiplier are you getting 425fsb?

Using 425*8 now but I haven't really pushed the system since I am worried about the temperatures.

Everyone else that is using air-cooling, what temperatures have u got with Core Temp at full load? When do u stop increasing the processor voltage?

IluvIntel, those benches are sweet. I truely believe since we are FSB limited at the moment a e6600 or higher is the way to go. I just ordered a e6600 from newegg this morning. That ram is kicking too.:toast:

Have some Patriot PC8000 arriving today. We post results but I don't anything over 450 with any divider is hopeless. Maybe some 3-3-2-8 action at 400 would be nice as its rated 4-4-4-8 at 1000.:banana:

For me it's temp limited I can not stay under 60c using 1.5 volts:(

Another tidbit of info about the board. You can NOT use both IDE channels, like hard drive on 1 and DVD on 2. I started wondering why Oblivion was taking so long to install, as a hour had gone by. I was getting 50% cpu load as well during any DVD to hard drive activity. It seems the board or whatever can not use IDE 2 correctly, it's as if it trys to send data both ways like sata instead of IDE one way.

I switched out my IDE hard drive to SATA and DVD to IDE 1 and Oblivion installed in 5 min:eek: Something is not right:stick:

Hey, I just got my system up and running and I have a couple questions...

1) When my BIOS loads, I get an error message saying "Floppy failed(80)", or something to that extent. I'd check what it is exactly but I'm formatting my HD now. I disabled Floppy in the BIOS but I still get the message. Any ideas?

2) At the BIOS screen, my E6400 is only reading as 533 Mhz (8 x 66 Mhz). Why does it say this? I disabled Speedstep and C1E, BTW. Maybe an error with the BIOS? I'm using the one straight from the box and will flash to 7.15b once Windows is installed.

If these questions have already been answered, I apologize. Thanks to anyone who can help :)

Small Update:

1) I actually didn't have the Floppy disabled. I just disabled the controller, and didn't specify that there was no Floppy Drive. Stupid mistake :P

2) As for the 8x66 question I had... this is really bugging me. Anyone know what the deal is? I don't think it's throttling because my temps are low according to the BIOS. I can't see why my E6400 is only reading as 533 Mhz, anyone have any ideas? I'm using BIOS 7.0, BTW, so I'll try flashing to 7.15b.

OT: I am a fellow Red Sox fan (sort of!). My sis and bro-in-law lived in Boston a few years back, and I came to visit them for like a month in 2004. Started watching every game and became a real fan (even though they like hadn't won sh1t for 80 years or whatever :p:). Johnny Damon is God! And I like Ortiz, and Manny and I saw the 2nd backstop guy at Natick mall! And said hello to him and stuff!

Immediately flash to the 715 bios. Also, I noticed that you should disable unwanted items first, restart, then go into the bios set your voltages, restart, and then on the third reboot then change memory and FSB settings.

Over on the MSI forum somebody was saying that (if possible) increase your vdimm to 2.3-2.4v and see if the cold boot issue goes away? I am thinking about trying this being that my RAM is rated at 2.2v.

Thanks for the help :). I'll flash the BIOS once I get Windows formatted, then run 3Dmark 06, SuperPi, etc. I don't wanna OC right away, considering this is only Day 1. Maybe in a couple weeks, once I settle in.

A couple things to note:
- The x1900xt cooler sounds like a friggin jet engine! I had always heard it was bad but you only understand once you hear it. Loud roar at startup, but slows down very quickly.
- Temps are in the mid 30s for my E6400 at the moment, this is with 1 120 mm intake, 1 120 mm exhaust, and a 95500 CNPS. All fans are on low speed. Big improvement over my old prescott.
- Now the system temp... is that the NB or the SB? It reads around 32-33 when I check in BIOS. I wanna put a 92 mm Panaflo over the NB to help cool it for when I OC.
- I tried flashing BIOS with a CD-rom but it said "Operating System Failed" or something like that. I'll flash once Windows is installed. Also tried with USB Drive but had some issues.

I'd love to take some pics of the rig itself but I can't ATM. My old digi camera is busted and I can't post pics til i get a new one. I'll post screenies of benchmarks, though (3Dmark 05/06, FEAR, SuperPi, etc.)

OT: Johnny Damon WAS God until he went to the Yankees. I still admire his play and work ethic, though. he's genuinely a nice guy who went to New York for more money. A lot of people blame him, but hey, money is money :(

The very first thing i did before anything else was disable unwanted devices (Floppy, Onboard Audio, Onboard Lan, C1E, SpeedStep, etc.). I'm running all stock voltages (2.0V on the Ram). I changed my memory timings to manual 4-4-4-12, although would it really matter if the SPD is 4-4-4-12? I think I read that with other boards, and maybe this MSI one, that you should set manual instead of SPD or vice versa when it comes to OCing.

And one more question: That little metal thing over the SB, the metal piece that jingles a little bit when it moves... is that removable?
