Yeah, so yesterday I got my other 2x1GB sticks of OCZ Plat Rev2 6400 memory for a total of 4GB. I'm planning on going Vista x64 this weekend.
Anyway, I installed the additional 2GBs in my box and completely lose stability. I ended up having to drop my total OC from 3.4GHz to 3.2GHz on my E6600. I'm kinda pissed. I spent 3 hours trying EVERYTHING. RAM timings, voltages, MCH, etc. I'm not fully certain I'm totally 100% stable @ 3.2GHz - I only let Orthos run for an hour.
Damn. There's no way I'm forkin' the $$$ for 2x2GB DIMMs either, so I guess I'm stuck with this. I'm on 1503. A newer BIOS wouldn't allow anymore stability, would it?
Brahmzy-
My experience is much like yours over the years. Two sticks of RAM overclock better than four. Not really your fault, just a fact.
I want to get 2 sticks of 2gig for a total of 4 gigs but I wonder how that would effect my OC. Time will tell.
sparx
you need to up your ram and nb volts when running four sticks of ram

what a bummer had to pay at that :(

I wondering if any of you guys know a way to keep speedstep turn on and when I want choose it to be working at full power? Because when I watch movies it tends to sutter all the times because keeps changed the multiplier
i cant downgrade bios from 2204 to 2004... i tried to dwonload 2103 and the same errors occurs: version of bios is older..
what can i do ?
I had the same issue when adding 2gigs a few months ago, but I think my bios update may have helped. I'm using 2302 and XP runs perfectly with the same overclock.
I just installed Vista this weekend too and everything seems to be running ok. I can play bf2142 all day without any problems. I've also tried Crysis Demo and that seems to be ok. The only game that has crashed so far is UT3 Demo but that's probably video driver related.
One other annoying issue is the fact that if I play videos in winamp 5.5 I get hangs with a loud beep coming from the speaker. If I use windows media player, that issue disappears - odd...
Hey lawrywild,
I apologize of this question has been answered, I just can't sems to find my answer (i've been searching and reading). What is was trying to do is to have my 2 SATAII drives as JBOD on ICH controller with an IDE DVD burner. I currently have 2302 BIOS and willing to flush with your 2004 BIOS if this would make any different. Please help me to get this working (change jumper/BIOS settings or anything).
I really appreciate your time.
Tommy
OK. So I flashed to 2302. First thing I noticed during POST is my memory shows 3GB, not 4GB.
I go into the BIOS and check System Information and it says:
System Memory
Total: 4,096MB
Appropriated: 1,024MB
Available: 3,072MB
WTF is that about? I don't have Windows loaded at the moment - is my Vista x64 going to be able to see all 4GB's? Is this a newer BIOS "thing"?
My 1503 BIOS never said anything like this.
Enable the Memory Remapping option in the BIOS.
I have the asus p5w-dh.. and i was wondering where i should be putting the multimeter to read the actual vcore voltage on this board...
Been searching these forums.. couldnt find a thing
Has anyone tried this suggestion and been sucessful.
I am currently trying this, but I am having problems getting windows XP to see the drive. I can see the 4th drive in the bios and under post, but in windows under disk management, device manager etc it is nowhere to be found. I am a little stumped right now, as I can't quite see what I am doing wrong. Thanks in advance for any help :-)
I thought this board was bullet proof, Didn't have a single problem with my first system build running 333 X 9 Q6600 3.0Ghz and then....
I went to burn a cd last night and the system froze, Rebooted, to test the burner NEC 3500-A played a DVD, copied a DVD, played a CD, everything fine. Went to burn a CD again and the system froze and I got a bsod. Rebooted and tested again, another bsod. Gradually this got worse until the drive wouldn't read or burn anything, it would just cause a bsod as soon as it tried to read a disc. I figured the drive was broken as I have a 250GB hard drive also connected to the ICH7R IDE which was working fine.
I removed the DVD drive from the ICH7R and tested it on the JMicron. It worked fine. Attempted to reboot and the system wouldn't boot. Reset CMOS still would not boot. I removed the 250GB hard drive from the IDE on ICH7R and system booted up fine.
Now anytime I connect anything to the ICH7R IDE the system won't boot. I checked the pins, all fine and tested 3 or 4 cables. Although I'm also running a 40GB SATA hard drive on the ICH7R and it's fine. I guess the IDE is dead- great, that lasted about 3 weeks for me :-(. Thank God the Jmicron can do ATAPI. Hard drive and DVD that were connected to the ICH7R are now running perfectly on the Jmicron.
Anyone come across a similar problem?
Lurker I have found the ICH7 ide to be poorer than the jmicron yes.
Hey guys, hope someone can help me, I have VERY irritating problem here now with my new ram (Crucial BallistiX PC8500 4gb).
First I will say that the ram can run up to 1180mhz CL5 stable without problems with 295fsb on cpu, but the problem starts when I want to use 380fsb. When I choose that I can choose between 950mhz, 1013 and 1140, I want 1140 ofcourse. So I choose 1140 with CL5 on 2.4V, XP is loading... and then BAM Bluescreen and restart! 1013mhz don't work at all, black picture only. So now we have only the 950mhz remaining, and that works, but I have paid for ram that almost tolerate 1200mhz and then you understand why I dont want 950.
PLEASE, what is the problem here, what can I do to get 1140mhz to work with 380fsb? I consider to buy Asus maximus formula, but I dont want to because p5w is good enough, please dont let me sell this board.
I have the latest bios, 2302. Im grateful for every help I can get.
Cpu-z now:

I am waiting for ASUS to actually come out with a non-broken Bios...
As Station Drivers already lists tons of new Bioses for the whole P5B series, I am hoping that
ASUS also has some of their coders doing a debug of the P5WDH bios.
It is so annoying to be stuck with a broken Bios for now, what, 4 months?
yes it will work just take of the jumpers on the easy raid on the board then reboot enable easyraido and you have four on the ich7r easy raid no. 2
Will this MB will work with GeForce 8800 GTS PCI Express 640 DDR3? Thank you for your help.
