Best DDR3 supporting chipset for Q9xxx?

Hi people,

My rampaged maximus board is currently stuck at FSB 436 with a Q9300 processor. Since I am planning to get me a DDR3 supporting board I would like to ask here which chipset would be the best for a Q9 series CPU?

Is the X48 really a lot better than the X38 running a 45 nm quadcore? What about the P45 and nvidia 790i ?

Looking forward to hear some comments!

308 is definately the best bios so far it gives max tref value and is the fastest bios for bandwidth.

what kinda 3Dmarks scores do you get?
I have a 3870X2 on RMA with Asus and there dragging there ass on replacing the card....I can grab a ICEQ card super cheap was wondering if its worth it

45nm quads and X48 are getting very good results
Cannot comment on P45 but the 790i is a decent board
Rampage DFI or EVGA would be solid choices, I personally would grab a Rampage.

Sounds good to me, trouble is, the Rampage does not support DDR3 RAm, or did I overlook some model?

I found another board, the MSI X48C Platinum X48. It even comes with both DDR2 and 3 sockets. I have no clue tho about it's overclocking functions in the BIOS tho.

I'd love to stick to ASUS tho.

Have you heard of the Rampage Extreme? It's the best board ever made, and it is a DDR3 board.

Beta bios 0408, dated 7/10/2008. Been out for weeks.

I tried that bios when it first appeared

Loaded fine, windows started so tried prime and my temps went up by about 5 degrees C and then it restarted. Everytime.

Went back to 403 and everything works great - then noticed GrnFinger mention that 308 was better for bandwidth so reverted to that yesterday and he is certainly right :up:

Asus says sth. different but the RF0408 is supporting the new E0 E8600.

308 is certainly better for RAM bandwidth because of higher TREF. I'm running 308 because anything else has proven quite unstable with my current setup.

Same here , I found running anything but 308 eventually creates problems

No problem :up:; I'm learning some interesting stuff right now. I think I breezed through these bioses too fast. Sometimes you really need to stick to what you think is best for your hardware.

I need some help from you guys again : )

i just bought 4 gigs of corsair dominator ddr2 1066 (2x 2 gigs). After a bunch of hassle I finally got them to run at the right speed and timings and be able to boot, but now I'm having some other problems that I think are related to voltage. My NB voltage was set at 1.47 (not actual) back when i only had 2 gigs of total ram, so I figured I'd need to up it. A corsair tech told me that 1.55 should be plenty, which I get when I bump it up to 1.51. However, I'm still not sure if this is enough.

Additionally, I noticed that I get a BSOD on the windows loading screen if my clock twister is set to anything but auto. I figured "lighter" would help, but alas it does not. All my other voltages are good as I figure ram really only depends on nb volt and dram volt. If anyone has a similar setup, can you please post some settings that would help? I just want to be rock solid stable, don't care much about oc'ing this ram.

Decided to try converting my P5E to a P5E/Rampage tonight. Cleared the P5E CMOS. Flashed to the 403 Rampage BIOS. Cleared the CMOS again. Now I'm running a working P5E/Rampage. :D

This BIOS changes are small but amazing. This process actually DOES fix the vDroop issue I was experiencing with my P5E! vDrop is better but still exists.

Thanks for making this post. Time to do some more testing...

I have founded the max spot for my cpu where it is 24/7 stable in all stress programs, games and so. Since it is not the best bacth (Q0808....) 4027 mhz is max it will run at 1.408 v-core under load. At that speed i am running 537 fsb with is okay i think on X38 chipset with 4 sticks of 1 gigabyte ram.

Is there any reason why my write is so low?

I have pretty much the standard timings for my RAM - 5-5-5-15-50 and rest i cant remember from the top of my head :rolleyes:

TBH i'm really happy with the setup at the moment, just wondered if write was ok being that low..

I'm leaning towards ram timing being the problem.

Anyone want to venture a guess as to why my old P5B Deluxe is beating my Maximus-flashed-to-Rampage Formula in Everest memory/cache tests? Both are set to 400FSB, the P5B housing an E6300@2.8GHz and a Q6600@3.6GHz in the Maximus, and memory at 600MHz 5-5-5 timings. I get 9370MB/s read on the Maximus with PL5, but the P5B is pulling 9500MB/sec, and the subtimings are actually tighter on the Maximus!
