Charles,
You have raised the bar yet again! Simply stunning!!
Rocky
What I love the most about this build is how absolutely seamless everything looks. It looks like it was factory made and planned that way from the beginning.
Yupp, that is definitely what I love the most about this build, everything just fits, doesn't look unnatural, and looks perfectly planned and engineered.
Congratulations are in order, but feel so small. I'm sure that we all wish we could say more, but accept our token words of gratitude and a nice thank you for bringing us along in the journey.
If you ever find yourself in my zip code, I'll take you to Gamla Stan and buy you a beer.
This will definitely be an inspiration to me for years to come.
it's ok :rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:
now excuse me while i pick my jaw up off the floor
Wow! Amazing build! Question... is there a lot of cursing involved putting 3/8 tubing on 1/2" barbs?
You know what the only problem with a build this perfect is? Out doing it!
You've truly not only set the bar but hurtled it into orbit. Absolutely mesmerizing!
Perfection. Unbelievable layout and design. Im floored by that!
For me it was a pleasure to watch this build from the first matalwork jobs to the finished system. The softbox lighting, individually sleeved cables and wires, the PLED screens in their individual mount, the SSD mounts and the uncompromising attention to detail make this murderbox a modding classic.
;o ;o ;o ;o ;o ;o give me moooooooooooooorrrrrrreeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !
Ok here's a question for the guy who's responsible for my now favorite build...
Charles how the heck do you know which wire goes where on the power connectors when you get them all pulled out of place and sleeved? I'm getting ready to start putting together a parts list for a TJ07 build and the one most daunting thing for me when thinking this build over is getting the sleeves on all the wires.
Masking tape, and a pen ?
If you do it often enough, you could even attach a small label to alligator clips and just clip one to each wire as a super-quick labeling method.
Thank you all for the generous comments; I’m frankly overwhelmed and blown away by your kind words of support and can’t tell you how much I appreciate it. :) :) :)
Project Update: The plan now is to ship the machine out on the 16th of July – by that time, Daniel will be home from his trip (I wish I could go too!). This will give me a chance to redo a couple of pics I’m not crazy about which is good. Also, I hope to create a short video – real basic really; just something to show it from a moving perspective. I’ll definitely keep you guys posted on that. :yepp:
My short term plan is to get on top of all the things that have had to take a bit of a back seat these past weeks. There is certainly no time to rest now and in fact, finalizing this build has rejuvenated me and I’m excited to get to work on new things. There are a number of custom builds on the immediate horizon – one called “pure|murderbox” that’s really going to be something. We’ve finally settled on a design concept after a year of tweaking. There was an early version displayed in the Fried Chicken thread but I can tell you it’s come a long way since then. Anyway, more on that later…
Yes indeed! Once I've selected the final, final photos, wallpaper versions will be made available.
Kibbs, I just want you to know that it was because of your suggestion that I went with "P-Clips" under the midplate instead of those square adhesive ziptie doo-hikeys... thank you Sir! :)
YES!
Especially when you don't heat the water enough, hehe. Originally, I was using the hot water from our water cooler thinking that was the way to go. After days of bit©hing and moaning to Kirk about it, he said "are you boiling the water?..." Then I used a microwave to boil water in a cup and they went on like butter (comparatively at least). You just need to hold the hose in for 30-45 seconds and the end softens up like a wet noodle.
Cheers. :)
My solution is simple - I leave a bit of the wire exposed so I see the color.
Rather than go over the metal connector, effectively concealing the wire completely, I leave the shrink a bit short. It's still concealed when it goes in the connector, it just means you have to take your time when doing each end so the sleeve doesn't pull the shrink further away. To remedy this I do one end at a time, let the shrink cool and then use small clamps to hold the sleeve tight and in place on the other end. This solution came to be when I found it easier to leave all the wires loose (not in their connectors) for routing and cable management. This works for everything; PCI-E, ATX 24pin and 8pin, Molex, etc. The only thing you have to ensure is that the one double orange on the 24pin (technically, one is referred to as brown) goes in pin 13.
I made some quick pics...

I leave just a little bit of wire exposed. I know it's not as exciting as guessing which goes where but at this stage, I'm trying to reduce the drama in my life. ;)

... Still goes into the connector and totally conceals the wire...

Having a team means I can do 6 at a time. My dream is to one day have 24 clips... I know... stay realistic...
Cheers. :)
sweet tips
just one question why did you go through the effort of putting 3/8 tubing on 1/2 barbs ???
check your pm
I see pure murderbox :) cool stuff charles - thats a lot of modification to the thick tj07 shell methinks you will be custom fabbing a new shell this mod and that will certainly take it to a whole other level.
Hello Charles,
I am a little bit late to join the party, but I want to tell you that this build has something that will find its place in future computer designs. :) There's nothing better than your little ideas that come together.
For a dual loop system its amazingly "airy" in the upper section. That's a surprise to me and congrats on showing something different than expected! :) The lower section is fantastic, because it shows that without precise planning, the build would have been impossible. And now Charles: Make sure that it arrives well and enjoy your week of relaxation that you planned - you deserve it very much. Thank you for another very inspiring system!
I would like to know if anyone votes against another appearance on MDPC. Please let me know, because I don't want to be called "affiliated" when it comes to murderboxes from Charles :)
Maybe Charles should have his own section on the site? he certainly deserves a feature of the evolution of all his work in one place
I vote against another box on MDPC... because he is making everyone else look bad ! :D
