Hey Guys,
I have reverted to CIBIC's settings with only one change: I left the ram timings at auto (which assigns them at 8). I only set the CMD to 2T.
Machine has been stable for a couple of day - no incidents yet.
Cheers.

Hi, Newby here.
I installed this Mobo and it constantly locks up when I try to play a video. I looked through this thread and decided to re-install my old Mobo. I would think that as much as this board costs, it should run correctly out of the box.
Does the Striker 2 extreme have an issue when running everything in auto/default settings? I paid good money for this board and if it requires tweeking just to run then I don't need the hassles.
I tried just about everything to get the system stable, I bought a new video card, new memory, new PSU, and a new quad core CPU. I will reinstall it one of these days and list the bios settings as specified in the thread.
My question is, is it going to require constant tweeking?
Thanks for any help or suggestions.
If its a divx or avi or anything that requires codecs, then you need to make sure your system is 100% estable first or else it could be anything from the RAM to the drivers.
Thanks. I might install it again this week and give it another try. I really want to use the stuff, I just don't like having it lock up or re-boot on me.
It actually does those things whenever it seems that the video card is being taxed, tht's why i bought a newer card, but that didn't make any difference.
Oh well, thanks and I hope to get back here, if it lets me.

Hey guys, hope I haven't come too late to get some help.
I got this mobo in Dec 2008 and had the usual freeze/crash problems.
Mostly while watching something, but sometimes while playing games. Anyway, after messing about in Bios a bit, I got lucky.
All I changed was:
Mem voltage: 1.86v
NB Voltage: 1.40v
SB Core Vol: 1.55v
The rest, except stuff like disabling onboard sound and the like, was completely default.
Just like that it went on to be perfectly stable for about 6 months.
Then in the last few weeks it's started doing it all over again, despite nothing being changed in bios.
My specs:
Nvidia 896MB XFX GTX 260, PCI-E 2.0, 2000M,
Asus Striker II Extreme, NF790i,
Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550, Yorkfield
(2x2GB) CorsairTwinX XMS3, DDR3 1
99850W NorthQ Black Magic Flex
Help :(
edited to say, I don't bother with overclocking anymore, i'm just looking for stability at default speeds.
Can't believe you guys are still using this... let me phrase this politely... crop!

Problem Description
My computer stalls when streaming videos, playing online games, or when i use uTorrent. sometimes it
will stall for no reason at all, when im not even doing anything. If there is sound playing when it stalls
I get this continuos repetitition of whatever the last noise was. Also every so often when i restart the
pc, it will stop when the LCD poster shows "Det DRAM" and i'll have to restart for it to work. I've run
memtest and it always shows no problems, getting very frustrated.
note: I've set the memory voltage to 1.80V, and also saw that the memory clock mode was on auto,
and i set it to unlinked and set the memory frequency to 1600mhz as this is the factory default, and
have seen a major decrease in stalling, but it still does stall often enough for it to be a nuisance.
I still think you need to do so in the first page. Have you seen how many people with 0 posts come here with hopes of getting working system? (check above)
About the pic, there is nothing wrong with it, but with your expression on #611, it seems that you dont really want to know anything about this board anymore. Why not change it?
Dont get me wrong, but your post also made the board sound really old.
You are the only person with a S2E board on his display picture on the forums
Old? The board is not even 2 years old S2E Announcement
And yes, well even with all those problems, it has been working for me
Don't give me the rolleyes...
New avatar, satisfied now ?
At least that's a decent board ( user points if you find out which one it is )
1 1/2 year is more than enough to consider a motherboard old.
Especially when we're 2 sockets ahead now, and moving on to the 3rd CPU gen since its launch.
Yes, it can work good, sometimes that's not possible without changing a hardware ( RAM most of the times, or VGA ), very few times hassle-free, but the working fine / not working fine ratio is... very very bad for this board.
Proof ? Check out how many people posted in this thread.
Peee fiiiivvveeee keeeeeeeeee thrrrrrrreeeeeeeeee deluxe aka Bill's destroys a QX9650 board
You changed your avatar, +1 for the change
About the motherboard time, is that a new standard I didnt hear about?
On a side note, true we are in XS. Its not extreme, but still has potential. Worth changing to i7? Hmmmm...
I would consider this board more like "Limited" since these i7s cant work on the board, not really "old".
Oh yeah, trust me I know the good/bad ratio. No need to mention or talk about it.
Why Leeghoofd? Why? :ROTF:
Hi Guys, Cibic,
Some updates on my end :)
I upgraded the bios to 1203. It was a nightmare to be honest. The flashing worked fine, however as soon as I restarted the machine it wouldn't start. Stops with LCD posted message: "Det Dram" or "Det Dmem" can't remember one of the two.
I tried everything possible and nothing worked, until I removed the board battery for 10 minutes. Then...magic! The machine started, and the bios was updated.
The machine is a bit more stable now on automatic, but I still get the freeze / sudden auto reboot issues.
One more new phenomenon now is that the machine sometimes halts at the republic of gamers screen at the initial start with LCD poster stuck on message: "MSINSTALL"
Cibic, I reapplied the settings you initially sent me, the difference now is that the CPU multiplier is automatically set to 6 instead of 8.5 in the older bios.
Any ideas or light on what the source of the problem might be?
Cheers.
