I seem to be in the same scenario. I can't for the life of me get my Ballistix DDR2 8500s stable at 1066MHz 4-4-4-12, or anywhere over 1025MHz at that.

DDR Ref = +2%
Voltage = 2.20v
MCH = 1.48v

I've tried several FSB:RAM ratio combos but nothing seems to be working. Is true that lower FSB = more stability? I'm a noob at fine tuning my memory subsystem. Also, what would be the highest MCH voltage recommended? Should I apply my own thermal paste on certain motherboard heatsinks (northbridge, southbridge, etc), and if so, how?

Our problems seem to be very similar, except that you have faster Ballistix.

I did some google search on running 4 DIMM's on P35 chipsets and after a while of searching came across a post explaining DDR2 timings, where I learned that if the cycle time (tRAS) clocks exceeds the sum of the CL, tRCD, and tRP clocks, you're more likely to achieve stability.

So I loosened my timings from 5-5-5-15 to 5-5-5-18 and that seemed to have helped a lot, in conjunction with the +2% REF voltage setting in the ip35 pro.

Perhaps try loosening your timings to 4-4-4-15 and see if that does it?

Edit: And what is your FSB currently at?

Ahh, thanks for the heads up. My FSB has been all over the place really, but at the moment it's at 444 x 8. Due to the unfortunate instance that the latest IP35 Pro .16 firmware (including .17 beta) don't allow me to use the unlocked multiplier on my QX9650, I'm limited from anywhere between 6x and 9x for the time being until I downgrade to .16 beta 4. :( If I downgrade, I can try 400 x 10 if needed.

With that said, what would you recommend me trying for stability? My ultimate goal is to get these sticks running perfectly over 1025MHz at CAS 4 with over 9,500MB/s reads :)

OH!...i didn't see your memory timings...you need to stay with 5-5-5-18 (or higher) and 48 (or higher) with tRFC

But how do all these people out there with low density 16FD3 Ballistix like me achieve 4-4-4-12 at 1066MHz and above? And the thing that gets me is that they're able to do it at even less than 2.2v sometimes..

Hey all just put in a X3110. Now it gives me a 7F error on boot up. Everything else was working before I cleared cmos (full clear) and replaced my other cpu with this one.

I can alt tab to restart when stuck at the error just dont know what it is. Thanks for any help. Oh and I have the latest official bios installed.

You'd probably be able to run that if you were just running 2 sticks. I can get stability with 4-4-4-12 @ 880 mhz, 2.1v with 2 sticks of my Ballistix, but need to go to 5-5-5-18 for 4.

A necessary trade-off, I suppose.

you can run thoses settings at real low overclocks but once you push above 900 mhz memory speed, you are asking for freezes or BSOD.

NOW...if you want to run thoses settings, go get the best memory: CELLSHOCK!

take it down to bare knuckles hardware including one stick of memory...that means, no hardrive, dvdrom and so forth

Gave it a shot but still same thing. It either stops at code 72, or 75 then goes to 7F.

in the manual it is not to specific...sorry.

i would leave the battery out along with clearing CMOS for about 8 hours or so...unplug ATX power and take the memory out...good luck.

Hi all

I am wondering how i can get my ram to run faster as i have no idea on overclocking ram and am a complete noob!

My ram is corsair dominator pc 8500c5 running at stock latency of 5-5-5-15 with 2.2 volts my overclock is 3.6 ghz with 400 fsb and 9 multiplier using a q6600 i am running the ram at 1:1.25 and currently the ram is running at a speed of 960 mhz.

The ram is capable of running at 1066 mhz as this is what it is rated at. How would i go about running my ram faster either at 1066 mhz or higher?

I'd recommend changing your overclock from 400x9 to 450x8 and then changing your RAM divider to 5:6. That would run your RAM at 1080 mhz.

You'd likely need to up the MCH voltage to get to 450 mhz on the FSB, and make sure you have C1E and EIST disabled, and have your RAM's REF voltage at +2% (something which I just learned the importance of today).

Finally got it. Didnt do anything for hitting F1, tried all the F keys. Ended up pulling everything and trying my old cpu. Still nothing.

Saw something at abit and gave that a try, basically just keep hitting the del key for a extended period of time and finally got into bios. Once I got there and saved its working fine now.

Ofcourse now I gotta deal with the temp issues of these chips.

That's a pretty low MCH voltage. How many sticks are you running?

Glad that worked for you -- though that is a pretty low MCH for 450 mhz FSB... is that stable in an Orthos/Prime95 blend?

I've got my MCH at 1.48v to run 4 DIMM's with the FSB at 440 mhz...

Are there any known issues with Seasonic PSU's (aside from the problems with the modular Corsair's) and the abit IP35 Pro? I have the Seasonic S12 650w and I'm starting to suspect that it is responsible for the completely random irreproducible bouts of instability my system has.

Following Ace's recommendations for BIOS settings and RAM timings to run 4 DIMMs I made the following changes:

FSB: 440x8
MCH: Upped to 1.48v
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 4x1GB DDR2-800
RAM Timings: 5-5-5-18-48-2T, 2.2v, running at 880 mhz

I can run memtest86+ test #5 for over 100 consecutive passes without error, and I had a 10 hour run of Prime95 blend that was successful as well. Then, suddenly I'll get a rounding error (it first occurred with the 768K test). I then stopped the test, closed Prime95, and re-opened it... multiple failures within a few seconds on the 1024K test. Continuous failure would occur at any uGuru settings (significantly lowering FSB to under 400 didn't help at all) until the computer was restarted.

Then later that night, my gf was playing World of Warcraft on my computer (a game which is fairly stressful on RAM) and the system just completely froze... no ability to Ctrl+Alt+Del or move the mouse. Event viewer in vista just noted the non-descriptive 6008 error.

So I can't get a handle on why the system would just randomly become unstable like this, if not a compatibility problem with my hardware. Do these problems sound like a PSU problem, or something related to tRFC being too tight at 48 or something??

Yeah in the states thats about the only place that carries them. Tankguys did alot of working to get those over this side of the pond
