Shazza, great looking mod so far.
Removing the bezel from LCD units can be a real pain. On laptops you have to use your fingers on the inside edge of the LCD to pry it away from the LCD panel itself. And very often there is double sticky tape holding the bezel to the LCD panel. Pain in the rear.
I remember discussing the back of the case with you. The fastening technique. I remember now; P-clips!
And that bezel issue...
In the pic above, take off the stand, as there's no telling what could be connected to what. Also, is that a stylus? Check behind that too. Wiggle and watch is what I always do. Worked so far....
I am very excited to see where this will end up!!!
shazza, no worries here. ;)
If you haven't done so already, do as Wezly said and remove everything you can. If that doesn't work, have you tried pushing in that slotted area in pic #3? It could also be 2 sided tape as pointed out by nlancaster or something so sinister I hesitate to mention it. . .that bezel. . .is crimped on.
I may have to get me one of those and see if I can break it open. . .I'm reeeaaal good at breaking things. :D:ROTF:
@Wezly, That's a easel stand for when you don't have the room to drag the large one with you.
@Waterlogged
That little jawn in the pic I quoted, in the top right corner? that's an easel stand?
Oh, and Shazza, those little holes at the bottom, slightly above the bottom screw-holes, and below the USB port: what's in there?
Love the LCD display idea, Sharon!
I'm confident that you'll find a way to have it seamlessy mounted onto the side panel without having to use a crowbar, a reverse drilling Unibit, a BFH, or Crocagator (exclusively native to Florida) .
:ROTF::yepp: Fortunately it's still too cold for the crocagators, but I will post a pic when one shows up. Now, which way for that drill again?
Thanks all, for the support and visiting my lil' project. Waterlogged and Wezly - I took off the stand - still couldn't get 'er loose. Haven't given up, but I was on Project-Restriction today. Got the tax returns done, so I can get back to more fun tomorrow.
Stop--hammertime!
just to make sure is that model # OS-70u? i have some friends in the computer engineering field...they may be able to help me find a schematic on how to disassemble it...not nearly as fun as the crowbar and elbow grease technique...but might be worth looking into.
EDIT: maybe. the guy i'm thinking could help owns a local monitor repair shop...only one i've ever heard of...sadly enough he stays in business...appearantly lotta people like to take out fustration for there computer on the monitor..."don't shoot the messenger" comes to mind. he's also...a little out there...lotta out there and hopefully not reading this forum ^^
but i'll have him see if he has any info on it. and i looked again could that be ds-70u? =/ definately maybe.
You do some very nice work Shazza. Your builds always look so neat and crisp. Keep it coming.
arggghhh ... still no luck.
Yep - that's the one.
Much appreciated voigts. My craftsmanship is in a whole 'nother class compared to yours (as in lower ;) )
I know this is a slow going log, but I do try to do a little something every day. Today was paint-the-fans day. I used the guide by dullers, so won't duplicate his photos. The finished product:

Yummy ... fancakes :p:

And, because shopping counts for yesterday's activity - the new "Death-by-Jigsaw" (the only one we have here in Florida is a battery one that won't cut through sh**t ...................that's sheet metal ):

Tomorrow's list includes more fan painting (no dancing), new mid-plate cutting, and perhaps finally getting around to that sleeving job.
Thanks for looking.
Thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. I saw that post once but didnt care that much about that then... But I'm soon gonna face the painting of gentle typhoons myself too and I wanted to check again the pics of taking the blades off.. But couldnt find the thread anymore ^^
OT: I've taken a peek here a few times, looking cool this far :). Cant wait to see it finished like a lot of other builds here too :)
Glad the link helped, Elpy. I put the fan in a large ziplock (to contain the flying snap hook), and used two toothpics to pry it open.
Have you started your new worklog yet?
Paint job on the G-Tees came out looking awesome, shazza!
Love how they look juxtaposed against the Black MDPC sleeving. Thanks for link to dullers as well.
Gonna try and tackle painting me G-Tees in black...
Hope they turn out half as good as yours.
Epilogue: Did I actually type the word juxtaposed?
WoW those fan blades look good enough to eat Shazza. :yepp:
I must thank you also Shazz for the link, as I was only last night thinking about what colour I should paint my GT.
I had a quick look this moring to see if I had saved a link to this but of cause not, why would I do that for. :brick:
So thanks again Shazza, your a beautiful person. :buddies:
I hope that no inappropriate^^^
Thanks, Cpt and kgtiger - glad you like 'em - they do look kind of nice juxtaposed next to the sleeving. And, happy to report, they taste great with a sprinkling of powdered sugar.
...WOW, those fans look amazing top quality job on them! now i know what i'm doing with the nth number of fans i have laying around...:) and u say with powdered sugar? will try it...:P
as for the model number i'll see what he says tomorrow. good thing about him he's the only guy i know will be at the store every single day...great thing about people who live at there work. XD
that jigsaw will definately make life easier, last time i cut into a case...well lets just say college dorm room 3am dremmel with wrong grinding disk is all we have and a full steel case...we were determined to beat my friends watercooled oc with an air...we won :)...should've never given away the case ugly but the coldest i've ever seen... *snaps out of nostalgic moment*
(i'll have to put some parts in the old case and post pics in that worst looking mods section :P)
as for that worklog, been sick most of winter so i wont have the parts for a few months now...and by then who knows...could be fall bc i'm having a son in the summer. i'm hoping i can save up enough for the watercooling supplies, paints sidepanels etc etc. before kid is born just depends on how good commissions gonna be. (aka should be able to get started next month the way they claim it's gonna be but i'm still expecting fall)
They do look fantastic. Did you use flat or semi-gloss?
shazza, do me a favor and set the monitor off to the side for now. I'll be ordering one late Sunday/early Monday and I'll take the initiative of "breaking" mine so you don't have too. :p: :ROTF:
If I don't break mine I can certainly use it for "something". :wasntme:
Awww... seeing that small LCD panel makes me want to get one now! but what to use it for?
