Thanks my friend, very usefull information for all of us! Especially if we're too lazy to take down all our own data!
Usually with what I haven seen with S2E and many other Asus boards, it happens only if you are running applications like CPUZ, OCCT(which uses cpuz APIs) AND pcprobe at the same time. My theory is the software goes crazy during concurrent access of the voltage sensors or whatever.
@bench, man you keep changing avatars but nothing comes close to your picture with a broken nose. :)
Thanks BenchZowner, actually I was not that worried about the PCProbe reading it was more a strange observation.
It seems that the MB is very sensitive to too much voltage (also reported by many others) so when focusing only on memory speed (leaving CPU at default) I gain stability by only increasing NB voltage, setting SB to 1.5 and leaving the rest at auto. I am still not stable at MEM 1600 MHz still tweaking...
I'm on 0703 right now using 2X2GB of RAM here's what i've found. Linked and sycned
1600 = BSOD 7-7-7 20 2T
1610 Boots 7-7-7 20 2T sfc /scannow fails
1610 @ 7-8-8-21 2T stable sfc ok
For volts all auto except ram 1.86 and NB 1.46
Every BIOS revision I have tried BSOD's with the RAM at 1600 even. Getting H2O hooked up this week so I'll move to 1800 range and see what happens.
Trigger - I have found the same to be true (despite BIOS version) unless I'm running my QX9770 (than 1600Mhz works just fine, probably because 1600Mhz is the native FSB)? In anycase with my Q9550 or E8400 1600Mhz was a no go, although upping the FSB to only 1605Mhz made everything just fine! I hadn't used 0703 yet (still running 0511 because its been working just fine) but its good to know it doesn't do much for this 1600Mhz problem!
tekjunkie - Good point about running the different monitoring software at the same, I've also noticed it when running CPU-Z, Everest, HW Monitor, etc... at the same time. I have found however that if I open each program and allow it to fully load before trying to open the next one the problem is reduced?
Justifire - I think I would agree (although I'm not convinced its Asus fault yet as most of OCZ's RAM using same IC's as other high-end kits)! On a somewhat separate note the price of DDR3 ram is falling as fast as DDR2 did a while back (yippie)! Too bad I paid a whopping $349 for my Super Talent PC3-14400 RAM just a few weeks ago when at newegg right now their new kit of PC3-16000 is selling for only $279! Another question regarding some of the new 2000Mhz RAM available (most if not all seem to be CAS9) are they all running the somewhat new D9JHL or are some of them high-binned GTR? I've been very hesitant to try pulling the spreader off my Project X because of the way the heatspreader is attached? Last but not least Justifire YGPM
I also have problems running my memory sync and linked. For some reason I will boot but it will freeze or it would just freeze in memtest 2.01. I needed to go up to 1.55 for the NB to at least run for 3 secs memtest but it would still give error. This is with 1800:1800
Right now, Im going to test 1800:1600 to see if this is estable. If it is, Im going to be happy. I heard 0703 has a better compatibility with RAM.... I think tyke mentioned this.
OK fellas. For once I have good news (so far). I'm still only testing memory since I'm still on Intel stock cooler untill I'm sure the motherboard is not faulty. I know my settings (almost a underclock) does not belong at XtremeSystems but I'm just happy to finally (so far) be stable at a memory speed of 1600 linked, sync. My magic settings are the following (with BIOS 0703 and hardware in sig except for CPU/NB cooling):
Multi: 7.5
FSB-MEM: Linked
FSB/MEM: Sync
FSB: 1605
Memory timing:
P1: Auto
P2: Auto
7-7-7-20 2T
All subtimings Auto (no magic in this)
Overvoltage settings:
CPU: Auto
Loadline calibration: Disable
PLL: 1.5
VTT: 1.2
MEM: 1.86
NB: 1.46
SB: 1.55
GTL_REF0: -14
GTL_REF1: -16
GTL_REF2: -16
GTL_REF3: -14
(the magic was in the VTT, NB (SB) and GTL settings. So far I have passed SPi 32M, OCCT 2h RAM test and Prime 95 Blend for 2 h. I will Memtest overnight and if it's still fine tomorrow push the memory and FSB further to where it becomes fun (when raising the multiplier). BTW tomorrow I will get a 2x2GB Corsair 1800 MHz 8-8-8-24 kit.
I know this is only exiting for me but I am sure some of you know the feeling of frustration with this motherboard and the small things that fells like a victory ;-)
Great job Holmer, must feel good to get it running stable (uber clocks or not)! I'm happy that you got your RAM running at 1600Mhz, especially since your running 4GB! Also thanks for posting your settings, those can be very helpful to others with similar setups who are having problem like you did! Now the most important question, what is that stock Intel cooler gonna get replaced, lol?
Holmer...any luck trying to get the mem @ 1T command rate?
Thanks Roger_D25  I appreciate your sympathy. Unfortunately Memtest v. 2.01 was far from stable. I get errors in test 8 in every pass, also if I run unlinked, FSB 1333 and MEM 1600. I even tried the the overvoltage settings for unlinked, FSB 1333 and MEM 1600 I found "stabe" before upping the FSB (the same as posted in #583 exceps SB 1.5 and all GTL_REF on Auto and this resulted in Memtest errors in test 8 as well :(. I could not even boot into Windows after running Memtest. So far this MB seems to have exactly the same issues as the first SIIE I had and RMA'ed.
I will replace that crappy stock cooler with water on CPU and NB as soon as I am sure I'm not to RMA the MB again (right now the pain of tearing apart the w/c again is worse than the pain of running Intel stock a few days - even though it is considered as blasphemy around here LOL).
Anybody knows what Memtest test 8 errors translate to?
# Skinnee I'm sorry I can't afford the luxury of tightening the timings when I'm not stable at the rated speed and loose timings so I haven't botherd to test that.
Update, following changing the GTL_ref 0-3 to +28/+26 it passed 4 passses Memtest linked, sync, FSB 1605 (same settings as in post 583) but made an error in test 8 during pass 5. My hope is slowly returning even though I have not tested these settings with Prime95 or OCCT. I increse the GTL_REF 0-3 to +42/+39 and proceed Memtesting.
Good news for me too. 100% estable at 1800FSB/1600DRAM. Will post the screenshot once I get home. BIOS 0701.
Multi: 8
FSB-MEM: Unlinked
FSB/MEM: No sync
FSB: 1800
Memory timing:
P1: Auto
P2: Auto
7-7-7-21 2T
All subtimings Auto (except for tRC 30)
Overvoltage settings:
CPU: 1.32500 (With LLC, gives out 1.38 in idle, 1.39 in load)
Loadline calibration: Enabled
PLL: Auto
VTT: 1.30
MEM: 1.86
NB: 1.44
SB: 1.50
GTL_REF0: Auto
GTL_REF1: Auto
GTL_REF2: Auto
GTL_REF3: Auto
------------------
I am 100% estable Prime95 25.6 running for more than 12 hours. UNFORTUNATELY, my P1 & P2 since they are in AUTO, they seem to be disabled since Everest gave me 8848Mbs for reading :( ! But this morning before leaving home, I enabled P1 and P2 and left it running Prime25... we will see how it goes when I get back home.
So far, I love the board and the CPU. I still want to give 0702 a try as well as 703 between today and saturday night. Just to not to be left with doubts on my head :)
I think Im one of the few lucky Striker II Extreme Owners who did got a decent board. Never had corruptions and I been running this board since first day I got it with more than 10 BIOS updates done. :):):)
i want to give a last chance to my SiiE before RMA, is here someone with Q9650 and 4GHz (400x10, 450x9) please post your GTL settings ... i tryed every possibilities and is not prime stable but at 333x 12 is rock stable ...
I was able to tighten my timings, the OCZ needs 1.9volts to do 1610 @ 7-7-7-21 sfc checks ok now. Memtest and prime ok.
Now that I'm on water I tried a few higher runs quickly last night..1810 won't post with 1610's settings. 1705 booted but crashed running everest membench. Ran out of time to play with it further, but I didn't get any file corruption which is really nice for a change. Did 0703 fix file corruption? Anyone had corruption on 0703?
#slim142 thanks for your update + settings and congratulations with the nice result. Have you tested stability with these settings with Memtest as well since I have experienced to be able to OCCT and Prime for at least 2 h and still get Memtest errors within half an hour.
Here is my update: I never managed to get my Corsair TWIN3X4096-1600C7DHX G stable at around 1600 MHz (either linked or unlinked to rule out instability due to FSB). However, yesterday I got a kit of Corsair TW3X4G1800C8DF G (2x2GB 1800 MHz Dominator) and almost to my surprise they are 6 h Memtest (9 full passes) stable at the following settings (stealing your template slim142 hope it is OK ;):
Multi: 9
FSB-MEM: Unlinked
FSB/MEM: No sync
FSB: 1333
MEM: 1800
Memory timing:
P1: Auto
P2: Auto
8-8-8-24 2T
All subtimings Auto
Overvoltage settings:
CPU: Auto
Loadline calibration: Disable
PLL: 1.5
VTT: 1.20
MEM: 1.76
NB: 1.48
SB: 1.55
GTL_REF0: +28
GTL_REF1: +26
GTL_REF2: +26
GTL_REF3: +28
Update: I have testied linked, sync at a FSB of 1800 and a multiplier of 7 (otherwise same settings) with Memtest and I have no errors after 7 h corresponding to 11 full passes. I just found out I can not boot to windows at these settings and not even pass one loop of SuperPi 32M unlinked, FSB 1333, MEM 1800. What a waste of time because I'm a noob and did not test the basics in Win before Memtesting.
Thanks Holmer :)
Here is the picture where Im 100% estable
http://img233.imageshack.us/img233/6...osforxsgj9.png
------------------
Unfortunately, Im not 100% estable when I enable P1 and P2. I have tried raising the vdimm, raising vcore and nothing. Raising vdimm will give me error on thread 1 and raising vcore gives me error in thread 3. I have now increased NBv to 1.46 to see if this helps. If not, then I will try raising both vdimm and vcore at the same time. If this fails, then I will try vcore vdimm and NB raised at the same time. If this fails, moving on to BIOS 0702.
I would really like to know what voltages you people normally increase when you have problems when you enable P1 and P2?
Also, for my Q9450 running at 450Mhz FSB at 3.6Ghz with a CPU VTT of 1.30, what GTLRefs would be recommended for me?
any of u is using some SAS pcie controller?don't know which one to buy for our mobo
funny you're asking that in the Striker II E thread, as Asus made another mobo with the same chipset - 790i Ultra SLI -, a WS board with SAS on board: P5N64 WS Professional
- NVIDIA nForce® 790i Ultra SLI™
- 2 onboard SAS ports
- Extreme energy saving with new HE 95 power efficiency feature
- ASUS EPU (Energy Processing Unit)
- Supporting 3-way SLI
- 4 x PCIe x 16 Graphic (dual PCIe 2.0 x 16)
- G.P. Diagnosis card bundled
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...82&modelmenu=2
How ironic...
jah i know that mobo..but only 2 ports is useless...i need atleast 4 ports upto 8 :)
Hey OBR - Well I'm not rocking the QX9650 but I'm using the QX9770 (4050Mhz, 450Mhz x 9.0x), at least kinda similiar? In anycase like you I'm still working on getting this stable because Prime95 (both Blend and Large FFT's) fail on core 0 after 1.5hrs 1.75hrs. Up until yesterday I hadn't touched a single GTL settings but after not making any headway with voltages or DRAM settings I've accepted its time to test GTL's! With that all said I'm sorry I'm not much help, just wanted to let you know your not the only one!
Now what kind of stability do you get at 4Ghz (give or take) on your setup and where are you in GTL testing? Thanks for any help you can give!
