I need 1.368v to run 4GHz, but in BIOS I have to set 1.485v , so it means vdrop is 0.117 :eek:

Read the Micron datasheet for D9 DDR2 memory and you will see that it is only factory rated at 1.8 volts. When people are overclocking they usually start giving their memory voltages like 2.3 or 2.4 volts. In my experience, bad memory is usually the cause of most performance and stability degradation. It will be interesting to see some reports from XS users how the 45nm chips are holding up long term, like maybe a month or so at 4+ GHz. :D
Intel wouldn't have raised TjMax if they thought otherwise. TjMax represents the highest safe operating temperature for a C2D so a bump up in this rating is a sign that Intel is pretty confident in these new processors, even at extreme temperatures.Quote:

That is not vdroop, it is offset between what you set in bios and what is indicated by windows. What you need to do is launch P95 or Orthos and then look at the CPUz 1.368v. The amount it drops when the CPU is loaded is vdroop. Better yet, use a voltmeter and measure the REAL vdroop.
I really hope they are holding up well! I want to run these suckers hot.
I understand that in the past overvolting has been fine if you can keep the temps down, it's just that there are conflicting reports about 45nm. Reports that come from the same guys who love to throw voltage at chips, not the conservative types.
:rofl: :ROTF: :clap: I've even pumped 1.6250v (bios) set, and on posting, I saw CPU Overvolt warning, still booted into windows fine and trying to determine max clocks. I tell ya, once you broach the subject, people are going to be pointing to the cpu instead of troubleshooting other things.

Looking for answers on the net shows, seems as either a bios issue or a temp issue with the e8400 series.

BTW my English is not so good (I'm Polish) - I understand this offset is bad, and looks like my CPU is crap?
In Windows i've got 1.4V - in orthos 1.368 - that means vdrop is 0.032v.

I returned my Q748A242 today (max orthos speed was 3.8ghz :p: ) just to realize that all other cpus (10 of them) were Q748's also... :mad:
I decided to grab a new one Q748A141 and at least it's a bit better that the old. Right now priming for 2 hours @ 4.0ghz with 1.39v under load. Still a very high vcore for 4.0ghz but at least it doesn't top @ 3.8ghz... :p:
Seems like Q748's constantly produce the worst results. Better avoid them if u can... :)

Faster way is to use orthos/prime95 . Write down your current numbers , and check them after some days .
Orthos run so far, 1.2875 bios, 1.28 CPUZ for 4.0, will let it run overnight. I have loadline enabled so voltage in bios matches voltage in cpuz, vdroop is still ~.008 to .01. My batch in sig.
Wonder if any way that a single post could be edited by all people. Be nice for each person to list handle (some accountability for accuracy) their cpu batch, and volts needed for 4, 4.1, 4.2, etc. and get some idea of how these scale. Too much work for one person, especially one with a new toy.

Post #1885 is a good pic of measure point on board. With beta 16.b04 uguru is real close to what my DMM reads. When uguru reads 1.32v to 1.34v my DMM reads 1.34v. I just wish abit would fix the damn bios. No doubt they have had access to engineering samples of wolfdale for quite some time. Good luck.
My chip is incredibely cool. I see some members on water at 60c+ low vcore :confused:
I'm at 50-51c loaded 4ghz 1.36v with a tuniq @ 800rpm in a lowcfm/silent case
Even at 1.45v, I barely hit 58-60c MAX
Uguru reports my temps as 33c idle and 50c loaded. Core temp on the other hand reports 51c idle 68c loaded. Thats a 17c spread on both but I think core temp is off because even at default vcore 1.1v core temp reports 48c idle. When I touch the base of my Thermalright it is barely warm while under orthos load.
you could start a spreadsheet on google docs, and link to it in the OP. like

VID.... etc
then when everyones data is voluntarily put into the spreadsheet, 1 user at a time collaboratively, you could sort by any column like a database, and see which versions or mobo combinations are best with the e8400
