Just picked up a pair of the 1gigs today and can't seem to get over ~425MHz at 1.85-2.20V in bios with 4-4-4-12 timings. Tried bumping the timings to 5-5-5-18 to rule them out and only achieved ~455Mhz. How much voltage can these things take before it is unsafe? I'll try 2.3 and 2.4V later today.
Hi Guys, ... I have a few noob questions about my memory settings.
(BTW - If anyone has any links for helping mem understand more about mem, .. please post them)
I run my system 24/7 so I don't want to "stretch" any settings too much, but I do want to be running the memory as best as possible)
I'm running an E6850 at 425 x 9 on water (ASUS Maximus), and have 2Ghz of PC2-8500 Ballistix Tracers (cooling with a Dominator triple fan), ...
Right now I have the FSB-NB strap set to Auto, ... and the DRAM set to DDR2-1133 (Manual 5-5-5-15). My question is, ... should 1 / could I ... have a better setting for the DRAM & Strap? Can someone recommend a good setting for me?
Thanks for any input!
hi, i wanna know which is better, Ballistix PC8500 non-tracer or Ballistix PC8500 tracer version. Which one is better in OCing, run cooler, etc... thnx
Very similar, although the Tracers generally use slightly higher binned IC's.
For a more indepth look at results, refer to Eva2000's 12GB PC8500 Tracer vs Non Tracer Results @ i4memory
I'm gettin 2 x Ballistix PC8500 2gb (2x1gb). And I think I'm gonna OC, is it necessary to get a cooler for the rams?
they already have coolers, you just must put a 120mm fan over them when benching, dont want to burn them out.
You could get the Corsair Dominator Fan, but a normal 120mm fan will be just as good, and cheaper of course.
Or get the OCZ Ram cooler. Just make sure it wont interfere with your video card like mine does.
Yea i have a OCZ cooler does a good job.
should the highest i give this RAM be 2.2V?
A lot of D9s were reportedly gettin gfried above 2.2v. I had a set of Corsair that I ran at 2.2v since I was told it was fine and they died after 4 months. Right now I have my Crucial at 1095 @ 2.16v and they are fine. I wouldn't go over 2.2 if I were you, the pcb can't take it for long periods.
24/7 without active cooling;) Although i have other fans in my computer, none are blowing air on my RAM because i have no slots on my case for them (right next to the RAM that is)
I could look into getting a RAM cooler from my local computer shop next time im out.
What do you guys think of the PC5300 anniversaryes? The ones with the blue heatspreaders. Are they any better then PC8500's ? I had a pair yesterday here and they worked great at 550 fsb, 4-4-4-4, 2.45v... Didn't test voltages, other speeds or anything like that though.
Read this http://www.anandtech.com/mb/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=1
and maybe try memtest on your maximus :-)
