can you share your bios settings? maybe it's about the [VT technology / XD technology / max CPUID value limit / ASF support] settings.
2333 bios lets me use 400FSB on 1066 strap, but is extremely unstable.

when i set 400FSB and 1066strap on 2395 bios, then it doesnt POST and the hard drive led and the dvd drive's led are blinking in 0,5sec intervals.

what's going on :confused:

I've had cases where I get no video as well. I'll try the reset button. Does this happen all the time?

"Vccp" = "CPU Voltage Override". "V1.5" = "MCH/ICH Voltage Override". I verified this with a multimeter and by reading the sensor chip directly under linux. They DO droop slightly. My core is set at 1.525 but reads 1.5 and my mch is set at 1.600 but reads 1.581. The sensor readings agree with my multimeter to within a few thousandths of a volt.

yes it happens 100% of time

So where can I get an accurate vcore read on rev 503 of the board. That leg near the socket in shaminos guide doesn't work.

AHA ! So that's what a cold boot is. All this time I've been clearing my CMOS not realizing all I needed to do was hit the reset button (rev 505 /2395 BIOS).
It happens to me from time to time when I go beyond 3.2, so I sorta gave up for the time being and left it there. But then again I'm a n00b and didn't know any better... 1st time OC'er.

I hear this was the same on the BX1 board also. above around 320. Well since it is stable after the reset thing, it just is darn annoying to have to do. Almost as annoying as the hard disk led light staying on solid if you disable the secondary stat (marvell) ports in bios. You would think that these would be two easy things for Intel to fix.

I booted a 423FSB with a 266 ref freq this morning.

It's hard for me to test beyond a 402FSB because my Orthos blend stable speed with this chip is 3.6GHz. I can run a little over 3.7 for 3dmark06 and 3.8-3.9GHz on this board for Pi tests. My cooler really isn't up to handling the 1.6v I need for 3.8-3.9GHz and I need a full 1.65v with this chip for brief tests @ 4.0GHz. This board can't give that juice and I don't think this cooler would tame 1.65v and 4.0GHz anyway. On any board this chip starts to struggle beyond 3.7GHz.

If Intel ever makes the multi adjustment in their BIOS work for C2D on this board I'll try futher with lower multis. I will give them credit for BIOS updates, I love them with this board; click an .exe file and relax while it does the rest.

BTW I have to use the reset switch like xgman describes when setting a FSB @ 400+. Once I have saved and loaded windows at least once I no longer have the problem cold booting whatever FSB I have locked in. I only need to do the reset when I first make changes for whatever the reason.

I tried moving from a 402FSB down to 356 for 3.2 and had to use reset when making that change as well. After the change was made and one reset was done I had no problems rebooting or cold booting.

Shaminos guide is correct for vcore. That's where I'm reading it from and I've for a 503 board as well. I can get to it right between my wb and the retention bracket. It's dead center in the pic, around the 10:30 position on the wb.

the one right above the "U" in CPU on your block? That one gives me double to triple digit voltage readings to grd which is obviously not correct. My DMM is working right because my vdimm reads correctly to the same ground point. Is there another point that should give me the vcore I could try?

Yeah, that's the one. Double to triple digit?? Yikes! Maybe there's some masking on the solder joint and it's not making contact and you're reading floating millivolts. You could try the other side of that choke but it'll probably be even worse because you're measuring it unfiltered. I don't know of another place that voltage appears, except the cpu socket of course.

Try reading the mch voltage and see how that goes. Compare it to the "V1.5" reading from the bios and maybe you can calibrate the vcore that way. Remember, unless your multimeter was calibrated to a known source all you can do is compare readings. You won't know how close they are to reality.

I just realized that in the bios "hardware monitor" the Vccp should be the vcore voltage. If that is, then this board is severely undervolting vcore. I say severe because this is with pencil mod in place. Set at 1.6v in bios even with a little lead on the resister is only showing around 1.5x in the Vccp reading in the bios. I guess I'll have to get the lead out so to speak, again.

Okay I think I have successfully achieved a 1GHz overclock and with that I am satisfied. I was wondering if some of the experts here could look at my settings and screenshot and tell me if everything looks okay.

My settings are:

Memory -
Reference - Default
Memory Freq. - 533
Memory Voltage 1.88 (Manufacturer limit is 1.9)

CPU -
V-Core - 1.4
Enhanced Power slope - Enabled
FSB Voltage - 1.275
MCH Voltage - 1.55

specs of your system would be nice, what ram? what cooler? Vfsb looks a bit low, is that default value? You should monitor temp with coretemp, more accurate. 52c load temp gives you a bit of headroom to raise vcore to 1.45v and maybe reach 3.6?

Sorry my ram is CORSAIR XMS2 (2 x 1GB) DDR2 800 and Im using a Tuniq Tower 120. My FSB Voltage (1.275) is one notch above default. I downloaded Coretemp and it is showing about 3C less than TAT so I think i'll stick with TAT just to be safe. Also Coretemp is showing that my v-core is only 1.325 but its really 1.4. :confused:

I'm hardly an expert but I ran an overclock just like that except FSB @1.3 and CPU @default. I wish they had default settings in the bios for the FSB and MCH voltages though. Also my memory was @667.

a little help?

just connected all stuff together, flashed BIOS to 2395 and stuck on changing Host Clock Frequency and tRASmin :confused:

1) I can not select any values from those 2 fields

2) I have a G.Skill 8000 HZ 4-4-45 and by default in BIOS it is 5-5-5-4. But again - can not change tRASmin.

What did I do wrong?
