But isn't OEM and retail the same CPU (same stepping)? I already have a cooler waiting for it, so paying extra money for a retail version just because of extra warranty and a heatsink is a waste of money. And one year warranty is enougth for me. I will probably burn my CPU they day after I get it anyway :).

No stock heatsink/fan, retail box, or 3 year warranty. I don't know if the OEM warranty on them is 30 days or 1 year. Usually OEM is only 30 days but through TD it may be a full 1 year.

TD told me if i bought the fan i get a 3 year warrenty, so i think they sold me a retail chip. It doesn't arrive until Monday so i'm not sure

Tiger Direct has OEM X6800s for sale, why? No one else has any in stock, period. Why is everyone holding out on these?

Unless you're in desperate need of an unlocked processor simply for overclocking contests, there is next to no justification for paying $1000+ for a CPU whose performance can be matched stride for stride by an E6600 or E6700 at a fraction of the cost.

That sum it up for you? ;)

I Don't care about the $$$ I just want to know if these X6800s from TD are legit and will go to 4ghz. i don't need a heatsink and a 1 year warrenty is more than enough. I need stepping info on these things:stick:

Tiger Direct is legit. They are a pretty well stablished company.
I've bought many items from them in the past, including my E6700.

If you don't care about the shorter warranty, and have no need for a heatsink and fan, order one!

And about reaching 4ghz, well, it is never guaranteed. You could by an X6800 that could reach 5ghz, or one that won't go past 3.5ghz. It is a gamble, besides, the user is not supposed to mess with the speed to begin with.

Thanks. I just ordered every other part of my pc and I'm just waiting on the CPU and the Tunq Tower to come in stock. I'll wait till next week and see how the prices are for the 6400. I don't really lik pre-ordering stuff, cause then I might find it at a better price or something when I need to order it.

but that's only at the regular clock speed of the x6800. Truth be told, everyone is forgetting that the X6800 can overclock better do to the unlock multi.

i was wondering if any of the guys that ordered from places that had conroe "in stock" and got confirmation emails received their cpus? or were these just pre-orders also? i havent seen any threads with titles like "just got my 6600 retail and it rules/sucks"

I thought the 6600 was able to hit 4GHz and was a better buy than the 6800?
