Can anybod recomend a 8 Gb kit that will Work with the Asus RE ?
Hi guys,
if all goes well i should be receiving my asus rampage extreme tomorrow,
along with some dominator GT 1866 CL7.
I'm a bit lost on the bios, on my previous mobo, a dfi dk lanparty p45 t2rs+
there was a specific bios that outperformed most others by a decent length.
How does the rex do in this? are there any favorites for certain cpu's or?
It's for the use of an E8600
Thanks in advance!
just got the board
i gotta say i'm impressed with the board not impressed with ddr3 lol
too bad asus put heatpipe crap all over
gonna take some time figuring out everything
gonna take out all the heatpipes n replace all heatsinks
nb idlin @ 53c no good
zsamz, looking forward to seeing some of your results on this board:)
im sure you can do it.
just make sure to post it when you do
Hi thijs :) just tried my elpida on RE. nice experience so far
this is on 0403. can't say if new bios would be better for elpida - no other testing yet.

Well it seems like no one was interested in this so I fired up my RE and did a comparison myself, the outcome is to no surprise for no one I think.
One of the downsides for the RE is that is tough to maintain a stable 500 bus speed with a 45nm quad then with the EP45T, with the EP45T itīs so easy to run 500 bus, one of the downsides on the EP45T is that I couldnīt run my 2x1 Dominator 1800C7 at their rated speed and with both it was tough to run high ram speed, canīt run stable 1800 and up with 2x2Gb on either of them, seems like Elpida low volt ram is the way to go if one want to run DDR3-1800 or higher I think.
This was done with Windows 7 RC 64bit and with no optimizations, a Q9650 @ 500, 4,5GHz and 2x2Gb ram @ 1600 777 21 1T tRD 8 Strong.

i flashed to 1202 bios
only ran prime 30 min
i need some d9gts how good are BL2KIT12864BA1608
i got my moded xigmatek 1283 ready for nb :D
whats better to cool the mosfets HR-09 U TYPE1 or Enzotech MST-81
i saw you mod 3oh6 with Enzotech BMR-C1 but i prefer mx2 to thermaltape
thijs: board came with 501 bios 1202 is much better
wow nice timings and clocks.. i just started playing with rma replacement kingston elpida hyper 2x2GB - ignore the times just finding 32m stable points
Pretty good for 2x2GB Kingston 2000C8 dual channel @DDR3-1900Mhz 8-8-8-24 1T for single Super Pi 32M at least. As expected needed slightly more NB and vdimm voltage compared to same memory frequencies for single 2GB module testing.
2T vs 1T - memtest86+ v2.11 reported bandwidth difference was 6953Mhz vs 7210Mhz.

2x2GB Kingston HyperX DDR3-2000Mhz CAS8 (Elpida Hyper)
Dual Channel @7-7-7-21 1T
Seems 7-7-7-21 timings are easier to scale than 8-8-8-24 for this memory on Asus Rampage Extreme. DDR3-1952Mhz coincidentally is the highest memory frequency I've managed for Super Pi 32M on Asus Rampage Extreme so far. My Micron D9GTR/Samsung HCF0 seem to top out around 950-964mhz for 32M Pi.
Also 1T gives approximately 270MB/s more memtest86+ v2.11 memory bandwidth than 2T at same memory frequencies in dual channel mode.

do you help me with this problem? excuse me for my english i'm italian
could someone please help me.
i was wondering if anyone has successfully used this
ram with this board?i have 8 gigs of it and want to
get this board.dont really care about how it OC's
just want to be able to fire up the board when
i get it.ill get some good ram later. thanks
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...dlist=celebros
the 1GB sticks are on the QVL,so im hoping these will work too
it should work, i haven't seen anyone report of problems of not booting with 8gb of memory. but chances are, i doubt anyone on this forum with a RE will overload the board with 8gb memory of those specific model. this boards for high bandwidth and tight timing, not high capacity. you should try it out and let everyone know how it goes
as for my question, does anyone get a hard disc detection error during boot up? i'm getting this error every time, but it seems everything is working fine. it says something along this line during the bios boot screen:
what needs to be changed in bios to fix this error msg?Quote:
Marvel adapter - BIOS xxxxx
initializing...
No Hard disc is detected
Maybe hook up a HD to that controller ? or Disable the Marvell controller in the bios...
Donīt know if those particular Doms work but just look at the spec, I donīt think itīs gonna be any problem to run 1333C9, if OC, hard to tell.
I have 4x2Gb of Crucial Value 1333C9 (Micron D9KPT) and thereīs no problem with those @ 1333C9, I can run them at 1600C8 @ 1,80v also.

just pulled the trigger, and bought the REX:D
got it for 219$ and then 50$ rebate from ewiz

Nice , one more proud Rampage Extreme owner. :yepp:
I suppose that you gonna pop in your magic chip into this RE, it should be interesting to see if it performce better with the RE then with your UD3.
The only thing thatīs missing is some nice ram sticks to pair with the above.
Maybe this one, Super Talent Project 1800C7, itīs only 69,99$, 40$ lower then Newegg and according to Hardware Canucks they are pretty good, hereīs the review.
Happy haunting.
What is the BIOS consensus here. I've installed the latest bios - 1202 - and I really do not see any difference at all.
Nice price on those Crucial, what kind of heatsink arrangement do you intend to use instead ot the original?
I seems like itīs the 0403 or 1104 that are the ones to have for higher OC or benchmarking.
Otherwise itīs the same, the new they are, the better memory compatibility and enhanced CPU support. With better memory compatibility it seems like the peak gets lower for high OC.
Have bigger problems to get my 2x2 Transcend 1800C8 stable with bios up to 1104, with 1104 itīs seem to get somewhat better, Iīm with 1202 now and it seems to be a little bit better then 1104 but not stable enough.
I'm still fighting to get he OCZ blades P16000C7 working at full speed on this mobo, anything above 1900mhz errors out... would be nice to get them working at 500FSB and 2000Mhz... will need more time to explore all the bios settings...
Ghostleader and zsamz, thanks for the help with the ram

just a fan i'll be watchin temps
weird problem i can run prime no problem but then i just crash on idle or windows loadin
damn nb 55+ on idle? 65 load
Itīs seem like with this 1202 I start to get my 2x2 Transcend 1800C8 stable, one thing puzzles me though and itīs when I run LinX it give me a error right after the first run and I canīt figur it out why?
@ zsamz
In my opinion, that original heatsink arrangement is no good, I have replaced it with some 3rd party heatsinks and it makes a world of different with the temp.
Prime small or blend?
on idle, LLC enabled or disabled?
windows loading ,to low PLL maybe?
i notice a lot of SS using setFSB and was
wondering how to use it?i know you need
the right clock gen code, but other than that
im in the dark.could someone with experience
using it give me a quick rundown?
thanks
I ran a P95 custom blend (4 instances of 875mb, no affinity set) for 8hrs before a stoped it, good enough for me.
As I mention in a previous post, when I run LinX (max problem size, max memory use) it give me a error right after the first run and I canīt figur it out why and anything above 32mb memory use throw me an error, hmmm.
Hereīs a screenie with P95 custom blend (4 instances of 875mb, no affinity set) @ 450 4,05 2x2Gb 1800 888 24 2T Strong tRD 7.
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...NtRD7Stron.jpg
Nice work there, I tried to get the Kingston HyperX stable yesterday at 2000mhz, It fails on Test 5 on Memtest... but before I couldn't get past 1900mhz, Seems the ref volts are so important to get the hypers going on this board.
Yet I must say that if I run the Hypers at 1668 6-6-6-18 1T (all 500FSB tests) I get better bandwith then with the rams at 2000Mhz C8-8-8-24 1T( unstable) at the same PL
I've read somehwere too if I post at 495 and setfSb in windows to 500FSB that I geteven better bandwith, can anyone confirm that ?
thanks eva and Ghostleader :)
yes, boot 498fsb/1:2 or lower to avoid losing Read bandwidth.
but overall, to run higher Read than @ 475fsb/1:2/tRD6, it's easier on 5:8 (if CPU allows > 563fsb) :)
------------
2x2GB Blade elpida
tested for vNB @ 475fsb/1:2/tRD6: from 450x9 --> 475x9 : vNB +0.1V / vTT +0.05V.
vDIMM from 900-950mhz = +0.1V, which isn't good considering kit rating.
Already in some doubt over this kit on i7 for 1.65V @ rated.

got my board today.:D
everytime i get a new board, for some reason i think its going to be much bigger.
when i got the package i was shocked at first of how small it was.then i opened it
and it hit me,oh yeah these ATX boards all have the same dimensions.strange.
but it just feels like when you take a step up in boards they should be bigger
and better.:)
fired it up to check temps, and looking good so far.
http://i29.tinypic.com/34t7lmo.jpg
@cheapseats
Youīre welcome
Nice DDR3-1900 you have there, makes me wanna get some Hyper :slobber:
@Leeghoofd
Thank you Leeghoofd
Nice info on that 1668 vs 2000 bandwidth.
Iīm still struggle to get those Samsung stable, P95 blend, HCI memtest fail with in 100%, LinX fail after first run and sometimes it BSOD on my all of sudden, all with the same setup :(
Then I see you and cheapseats run those Hyper rather easy ~1900C7, that makes me wounder if it worth the struggle with my Transcend, it was easier to get my Dominator 1800C7 to run 4x1 @ 1800C7 then to get those Transcend to run 1800C8.
Those Hyper are getting closer but then this "Elpida Hyper Graveyard" are there lurking :caution:
@radaja
I recognize the feeling :yepp:, but itīs the same ATX but different kind of bling bling.
Canīt wait to see what kind of result you gonna get.
radaja, those are extremely low temps. how did you get the readings that low? did you take of the whole heatsink assembly to reseat it and reapply TIM?
WhiteFireDragon,yes i reapplied the TIM
and with my airconditioner running helps alot
w/o AC
http://i29.tinypic.com/2af1ow.jpg
with AC
http://i29.tinypic.com/287qc6r.jpg
just a quick test before i go to work.wanted to
see if i could get 9x500@4500.got to say so far this board
rocks.will try getting higher memory clocks over the weekend
and of course the week too.but not a bad start:D
http://i30.tinypic.com/2dliu8l.jpg
i just looked up my memory on the corsair website and the IC's are promos
what kind of voltage can i give these?their rated 1.6v but for OC'ing
purposes do these scale with volts?thanks
i finally got the heatpipe crap off the board:D
nb temp was 55c idle now 37c full load no fan
sb was 47c now 41c
Was that the smallest NB heatsink you could find , just kidding.
Seriuosly, nice to see that you got those temp down, itīs a fairly big NB heatsink you have found, is it compatibly with a TRUE and some push/pull fans, itīs pretty close to the first PCIe also but itīs okey I suppose.
radaja, those temps are quite impressive for the stock heatsink crap with only new TIM. did you also do the washer mod? and also, why is the vcore so high for 4500? why don't you try it at 1.29v or lower to see if it's better than your other board :D
zsamz, what nb heatsink is that? and geez, can you please put a bigger one...
still working on finding the right settings.havent even touched the gtl's yet just set voltages
and fired it up.and no i didnt do the washer mod.i was so exited when i got it,i tore out the UD3R
and reapplied the tim on the REX and fired it up.
heheh zsamz_ i did the same with true black just to test if it could be done.
i woulda put a true on nb if i coulda:rofl:
i still got 1/2 inch to spare for first PCIe :p:
scythe katana3 just needed to bend the heatpipes a bit to make it straight "you'd be urprised how much smaller it is than a true"
got it on sale for 22$
i had my 1283 ready but there was no room for a fan for my true if i put it on
now i just need a slim 90mm fan for the scythe katana3
hey radaja! i bet if i put my portable a/c on it i can get lower temps than you now:p:
zsamz maybe, but i got to warn you my NB with 1.49v
while idle drops to 18c:)
15c w/1.65v is awesome
Would love to know ya ambient temp than ? if it's at idle at 18°C your ambient is less ?
If Iīm not misstaken, radaja have a hose from his AC to the front of his case, therefore the low temp.
Isnīt that right radaja :)
yes,the temp of the air coming from the dryer vent is 6c-8c
here are some pics
http://i30.tinypic.com/14ie835.jpg
http://i30.tinypic.com/zkhh8k.jpg
radaja be carefull not to get any of the condensing water from hose on the board
That's nuts :p but so clever :), even think with the normal heatsink you can do sub 25's then
thanks.and about condensation i have lined the inside of the
vent at the end with where the attachment is with cloth
protector.because the aluminum vent is about 6 feet long
and condensation does build up on the length of it,but so far
i havent had any moisture at the end though, the computer is
about 2 ft above the floor and i think the condensation cant
seem to make it up that two feet.been using this cooling for
about 8 months now and so far so good(except for noise levels
w/AC and the 4000+ rpm fan always going)
well i got a set of patriot 2000 and man i cant get the damn things to 2k or even close
anyone has a 4 gig set runnin 2k on this board?
hey radaja! i couldnt sleep so i decided to break 13k:rofl:
i was runnin prime @ 600fsb
way too easy to hit 600 in this board
Zsams I'm stuck at 1960ish ram speed with the OCZ Blades, I needed already to tweak the NB Gtl and Ref volt big time to get there... due to time constraints I have to settle with that. I ordered some Micron GTR's 1Gb 2000mhz stick will report back ifI have those, till now 4gb 2000mhz is a no go with 1T and tight subtimings.
@zsamz
Nice 13k , any possiblity to run a 32m with that setup?
Do you now what kind of IC those Patriots have?
I give up to get my 2x2 Transcend stable @ 1800, I get P95 blend (4x850mb) stable but with the same setup I canīt get passed 500% with HCI Memtest (4x850mb), if I bring down Twister from strong to light and some DRAM skew I come close to 700% but thatīs it.
With LinX I only pass one, error in the second one and I also get some random BSOD just idle at desktop.
So that was my adventure with those Transcend.
http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...2NtRD7St-1.jpg
these settings helped me alot was only way i could clock ram 1960 stable
but anything over 37.5 was no good
NB DDRVref :37.5
DDR3 channel A Vref : 37.5
DDR3 channel B Vref : 37.7
it was weird i couldnt get her stable @ cas9
this set liked cas 8
13k wasnt too stable:rofl:
but this was i only ran prime 5 min
i feeling the numbers are a little low for the clocks i have. is this about right, or is it just me?
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2.../cachemem3.png
Looks low mate, but sometimes a different version of Everest is nite and day difference. I prefer to test with Pi 32 to see how efficient my bandwith is
tried another everest version, numbers are even lower. just for confirmation, i can run the 1.65v ddr3 intended for x58 platform on this x48 platform at 1.8v right? i know the board handles it fine, but memory specs only states 1.65v as highest. the older memory version is actually 1.8v, so i think these sticks i'm using are just undervolted for x58 usage right?
Nope the sticks are calculated for 1.65 daily voltage , so beter stick to that.. no matter what platform you run them on.
any news
did you use NB DDRVref : DDR3 channel A Vref : DDR3 channel B Vref : to get to 1960mhz
i needed 37.5 on each but not fully stable must be the 2x2 sets
my crucial pc3-12000 kit sukin bad anythin over 1.9 makin in verry unstable did the people at crucial use other than micron chips on some sets?
ghostleader: i got no idea what ics i have i have a feelin the 2k sets are microns they scale and can run tighter with more juice
when i get another restlless night and stick the a/c in my case i'll run a 32
I'm getting very close now to 2000mhz (test 7 passes more than 5 runs, just test 5 still spews errors) , but I lended out the REX for some PI runs on an E8600 435 batch cpu. I hope to have it back within 2 weeks. I'm using very negative values for the NB, Rams were around +12.5-25 ref volts
Lee, i guess you're on 1:2 - RE maybe running too tight between 490-498fsb... on 266 and 333 straps, Read and vNB are the ~ same @ 490fsb (490 boot) as 500fsb (500 boot), with the same clocktwister and tRD.
so between 490-498 min vNB is higher than @ 500. min vDIMM may also be higher.
booting @ 500, 2x2 Blades ok for Spi/Hpi @ 1000mhz.. skew / vREF / NBGTL all Auto. vNB scales fairly evenly with Read up to ~12.8-13K on 1:2 and 5:8.
the result booting @ 500fsb is not much better than 475fsb for Read, but it's the same with 2x1GB D9GTR, which needs higher vNB than 2x2 elpida for same clocktwister + tRD, 450-500fsb/1:2.
500 (x9) / 1:2 / 7-7-6-20 tRFC 60 (vNB for 2x2 elpida)
333 strap / clocktwister moderate / tRD7 = 12K read 43.5ns = 1.49V or less vNB
333 strap / clocktwister Strong / tRD7 = 12.4k read 41.5ns = ~ 1.59V vNB
333 strap / CT Strong / tRD7 + CHA 1+2 = 12.5k read 39.5ns = 1.59V vNB (HyperPi)
266 strap / clocktwister Strong / tRD6 = 12.8K read 39.5ns = 1.69V vNB (SuperPi, Hpi not tested)
333 strap doesn't work at all on my board, also I cannot push more than light on the Blades with my current setup at 266 strap. I'm limiting NB voltage at max 1.61 (tried up to 1.7, didn't help much on my board) and I'm messing a lot with the gtl and ref values... like said before Test 7 is rockstable, just test 5 of memtest spews still some 100 errors per test , was over 3000 before :p
Running clocktwister strong isn't even an option, it just doesn't post not even with strap 400... maybe I need to reflash that bios to a previous one ( had to use the latest for the pentium E6300 to be properly recognised)
Once get the board back I will test some more.
The CSX 1GB 2000mhz C8 dimms are on the way....Micron GTR...
which kit should i get?and does anyone know if these kits work on the REX?
teams

I got the latter Radaja, 100% pure D9 micron GTR, should be very good on the REX...
thanks for the reply.ill get the diablo's
whatever you get just remember not to buy team ram
rma is tough
there are much cheaper choices with d9gtr
i just wished they updated ddr3 ramlist
OCZ3P18002GK comes to 23can$ or 16us$ after rebate i just wish i knew what chips they got
i found Mushkin XP PC3-14400 confimed d9gtr for 70$
whats better choice lol
radaja you can get them directly from mushkin;) for 66$ use Mushkin coupon code: xtremesystems.com
i woulda ordered from mushkin but ups or fedex shippin to canada has a 55$ customs fee and i dont have half a day to lose to clear customs myself

My REX arrived today. I have paired it up with my Dominator 1866 C7's and an E8600. This is my first time with DDR3 so I'm in for a steep learning curve.
CryptiKthats great to hear.maybe we can help eachother out.ive got a kit of g.skill ddr3-2000 2x1GB coming and
im really hoping for some great clocks.but these dividers im not familar with(maybe its because of the crap ram ive got now)
very limiting.either way good to have you on board
Yeah for sure, I need all the help I can get too heh. The ram you have coming should be nice.
Just post here when you get stucked and I'll be there mate
Been doing some initial testing and slowly learning my way around this board and DDR3.
Here's some initial results anyway.None of the voltage are really tweaked for minimum required.

Doing some more testing with the 2 x 2GB Corsair 1866 C7 Elpida's. I'm starting to really like this ram now I'm getting more of a feel for it. Same goes for the board, it's just incredible what this thing can do.

The 600 FSB SPI32M settings were first tested using memtest. Check out that reported bandwidth of 7566 MB/s! DDR3-1920 MHz @ 7-8-7-24 is not too bad either.

cryptik, you're going crazy with posts for this board now lol. does that mean you finally left the M2F thread? this is a much better board ya?
i'm tryin out 401 bios radaja lookin better for d9
@least it let me boot @ 2000mhz lol
here it is for u lazy boy http://st-gaming.co.uk/bastra_space/...0401.zip<br />
got to 1900 cas 8 but bandwidth not acceptable
Looking for some help with this. I have had two Rampage Extreme's and twice the cap behind the CPU socket has blown out. Both times I was running LN2. The board and CPU scaled fine up to 1.75 Vcore tried to go to the next step and when I went to save the settings the board shut down. Was able to get it to start one more time to save my screen shots to a thumb drive.
My setting:
CPU Vcore: 1.75 ok next step up no good
PLL: 1.63
VTT: 1.41-1.44
NB: 1.61
GTLs all auto
SB: 1.55
sb: 1.1
The fisrt time the boardtook out my E8600 and I beleive it did thesame this time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Well my M2F is the board in my 24/7,work, etc system, and it's still going well, but I'm not benching with it anymore. I am definitely enjoying the REX a lot though.
From what I've read, these boards seem to be prone to failure with LN2 and many also take the cpu's with them when they go. How have you determined that the cap (the Fujitsu ML cap) behind the socket blew? Have you checked the fets for damage too?
i was getting pretty upset with my REX over the last week.
no matter what i tried it wouldnt boot 510fsb,i tried setting the ram at the lowest
setting,highest p-level,still no go.that all changed today.
i got my g.skill ddr3-2000's yesterday.thew them in and tried 9x500@4500 ddr-2000
using the 333strap 1:2 booted up and primed for an hour.so i tried 8x540@4320
ddr-1734 7-7-7-21 1t pl8 no problems at all.so i think my crappy old kit was to blame.
this weekend ill do some testing, really dont have the time during the week, working
10 hr shift and saturday,so sunday will have to do:D
i should have my ozc animal kit then too
Good to hear, I look forward to some results. I would also like some 2 x 1GB micron sticks to play with.
Also when benching it's preferred to keep LLC off !! I can hardly believe you smoked 2 in a row, must be something terribly wrong
well heres a quick one,not stable im sure, but i dont have time this morning.
im just glad im able to do above 510fsb now, after reading zsamz and CryptiK
being able to run 600fsb right out of the gate,i though oh no its the MIIF all
over again for me.i had lots of problems from the get go with that board.
but now its all good,im a happy camper.

Heh, that would have been very unfortunate. You had truly bad luck with your M2F's.
^Looking good there, DDR3 is very odd still for me and probably you too, but now I'm getting more used to it I'm starting to like it a lot. For the first couple of hours I was using my board, I was struggling to get more than a couple of settings to work. Now I have no idea how I was having so much trouble.
well now i got this new ram,i think 600fsb should be easy too.like i said this morning
i tried 540fsb-success/556fsb-success/and 560fsb-success.so now that im home
from work ill try 580fsb and 600fsb.just to see if it will do it.will post back
