I have an Opty 170 0530 also and did fine right up to 2.95ghz. I actually had pretty low voltage too and was sure that I would make 3ghz... But thats when my motherboard died. I am pretty sure the pwm area fried even though I had a fan on it. If I get the RMA then great, if I don't then I might check out this asus too.

1.65v so far, 1.7v 2.85ghz core 1 crashed prime after 19 minutes once my typhoon got to hot.

If you're waiting for better steppings then you're probably wrong. As they produce more procs steppings start to suck more. There are quite a few good OC results with 0534. Mine runs double Prime at anything up to 2.75 and 1.550v.Quote:

I don't quite like/trust monarch. But their OEM 175 is only $60 more than the cheapest 170.

I won't buy from Monarch again... regardless of their price but it's just me.

Hey I just realized that, weird... I have 1.6775 set in BIOS (1.525 VID 110%) My other CPUZ window (the one showing ram) detects it the same as speedfan... Silly CPUZ :p:
afi, be careful with those voltages if you're using a dfi (non-expert) nF4. The vcore may be jumping considerably (.05V) under load. Voltages appear to be much better regulated with expert.Quote:

Just got my 180 in... having a bit of trouble with core 2 though... 2.9ghz @ 1.5vcore core 1 primes forever and core 2 fails prime in 1 minute, wtf!
Someone told me that if I popped the IHS this would fix the problem (they told me it was due to the IHS not making proper contact with that second core, does that sound like something that's been reported?).
Anyhow, lovin' the new processor, definately looks like it has the 3ghz potential, I just need to get this one core thats failing back on its feet. Any ideas?

"mostly" dual prime stable. core 0 can last for an hour or two before it gets an error, sometimes it doesn't. that's stable enough for me. i've had zero problems doing anything else (heavy Quake 4 gaming)
i can boot into 2800-2900 fine at 1.55-1.6v, it just isn't dual prime stable. SuperPi 32M is usually stable with whatever i throw at it. i figure might as well go for the surefire stable speed of 2.7 rather than risking it at 2.8. i also don't want to go over 1.55v, isn't this a lot for this chip? if i ran at 1.6v how long would this chip last? if i could hit 2.9GHz usable in games, i might try for that....
anyone know what would be considered the 2nd best stepping/week to get behind the coveted 0530's? Tomorrow im gonna have to choose one and i would like some recomendations if they dont have a 0530... Would it pretty much be the earlier the better?
0530's the best. some guy with an 0528 had some problems so i dunno. 0534s are not bad, they can hit 2.7 stable, getting higher is a matter of luck, perhaps better aided if you're prepared to get that IHS offQuote:

Same here... More voltage did the trick :) IHS removal didn't do jack. 2.85 crashed prime on crappy core 1 after an hour and a half but it seems 100% dual d2ol and game stable :DQuote:

those 180s have a defualt v-core of 1.3v atleast my 180 does, how much v-core you givin yours AFSide? i wont go past 1.55v 104% that to me seems boarder line as it is...

I tried up to 1.65v and didn't see a change so I dropped it back down to 1.5v... Guess I'm just doomed. How big of a deal is it really to have one core non-prime stable if the other is rock solid and I just run it at that speed anyhow? Am I sacrificing any major amount of performance by doing this or am I better off finding my max dual core prime stable speed and staying at that?Quote:
