Intel's new Conroe core processors (which will be called Core 2 Duo when released) are probably one of the most anticipated releases of the year. One question on everyones' mind is ... Does the AW8D support the Conroes? Well, unfortunately ... no. According to Abit, a new motherboard with a PWM refresh is required for these new Conroe pocessors. However, the good news is that it will support ALL current Intel processors ... upto the 965 Extreme Edition @ 3.6GHz (1066FSB).

It's like reading: the board will work with cpu that his designed for. they call that a good news ? :p:
Why use two when 965 doesn't officially support CF nor SLI?Quote:

No. About half of these that are marked "available" are not even on Froogle or a quick Yahoo! search. That one is for sure not in the the US.Quote:

Has anyone tried any of the Asrock boards? I'm half tempted to pick one up just to see how it does, at $65 and $86 its worth a shot.
Here's preliminary results of one of the poorer performing via based ones:
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=105113
He talks about trying DDR1 on the second page.
Only rev 1.03G will support Conroe. So all the other revisions of the P5WD2-E do not support Conroe.
Even my small corner shop in edinburgh has one :stick: strange.Quote:

Maybe a decent Matx board?
They dont list the non cut down version (non SE) as supporting core duo 2 :/
that board would be a decent tie over board til RD600. Jetway's site doesn't say anything about it supporting Conroe though, do you have any furthur info that leads you to believe that. Besides for the fact that it is new and the chipset does support conroe.Quote:

Can anyone tell me if this board will support Conroe? B/c I'm thinking of buying a Pd 805, OCing it, and then save up and buy a Conroe (or is this a good idea at all?).

All 965X boards will support conroe, so yes that board supports conroe.Quote:

That would be a good idea, I am considering it myself, mainly because I don't trust asrock (who also offers cheap conroe boards). Hopefully Biostar will have a cheap tie over board by the time my conroe comes.
Thanks for answering my question. Now I'm actually re-thinking what I want. Since I've had crappy computers throughout my life (my current one in my sig is alright), I'm used to staying with them. I'm thinking of building a decent system based on the PD805 and this mobo, and then I'm thinking of probably just adding a cheap 7600GT for the graphics power and waiting it out until quad-processors come out. By then I'll have enough money for more upgrades. I guess that is what I will do.Quote:
