eva2000, would you mind posting a recap of your burn in, with very first attainable speeds up to right now? It would be really interesting to see if it works or not, didn't do much for my 0534 165 :stick:

you guys need to realise, i DID find the max oc, but like i said, i saw a post where some guy claimed to be able to get a lot more oc after tweaking those values. i tried the cpu at every ram speed and divider, as i did with the 0530. its not that i dont know what i'm doing at all, i just have bad luck
burn in hasn't helped much with 0546XPMW as it did with 0544XPMW both cpus adventures are fully listed in my sig links ;)Quote:

both 0544XPMW and 0546XPMW have extremely strong mem controllers it seems :D

then u cant do much about it..sell this one and try with another - thats your best option..and dont buy via ebay, coz the seller will never sell a good clocker :fact:

Maybe I have the same bad luck as you. I just ordered two more processors from monarch and am expecting the first one today. Could you pm me the link where the drive settings helped the person oc 200-300 mhz more? Maybe I can get off of the 2600 I've been stuck on for weeks.Quote:

And yes, I have put my memory on a divider and tested to get my max oc.

mongoled thats the exact post i was referring to, but would the choice of mobo really make THAT much of a difference?
mag|c, the guy that started the 170 UPMW thread, also had issues with OCing beyond a certain point until he played around with drive strengths settings. My Opt 170 also stopped at 2.6Ghz until I put those settings on Auto. It might not fix everyone's OC but I know it helped mine :)Quote:

Just a quick update on my CCB1E 550VPMW, it is now stable at 2.85ghz with 1.55v. It seems the gskill hz's cant even do 260 on the rdx200 (at least my sticks cant).
hybrid what batch number u have? its strange, coz all vpmw's seams to be the best clockers around.
Its batch 706, 678L substrate.
seems like those optis need a good ram to work quite good.
hmm, strange..i saw L50726 batcher running 3ghz@1.4V..
look in this forum, almost every vpmw is doing 3ghz or at least 2900mhz..

This is the best I can get with my poor little PSU until I get a nice bigger beastie along with better cooling

Sorry, I have no idea WTF photobucket is up to but it simply HAS to resize that image... to like 72K...
RAM has another 5MHz in it, but pretty close to maximum on the RAM anyway, so I'm not missing the extra multiplier.
Haven't tried for highest benchable... :toast:
Yea im not sure if i have the worst CCB1E in existance or if its the mobo (bios)? Its good enough until my next upgrade anyways. Although it would be nice if DFI gave us RDX200 users a better bios. I think they will forget about us once the RD580 hits. :(
Hi Guys, I've been overclocking my new 170 opty and testing its stability with pi 32m, its max at stock volts seems to reside at 2.8ghz on both cores.
I was pretty chuffed with that and decided to stop there and run prime small fft's and get some heat into the cpu. well after 15mins core0 failed and core1 went on happily. I upped the voltage and yet again core0 failed, I went from 1.3v to 1.45v and still core0 would fail prime. starting to get a little annoyed I knocked it down to 2.65mhz with same higher vcore and to my disappointment core0 failed again within 15mins.
I cant understand why core1 is happy running prime small ffts all day at 2.8ghz stock vcore and core0 will only run 2.6ghz prime no matter what vore I give it. :(
am I missing something or have I got a rather un equal dual core cpu?
Cheers
Anyone know if "resulting sum was 2837XXXXXXXXXX expected 2398XXXXXXXXXXX" errors in prime might be RAM related? I have some dead ram here that won't game for :banana::banana::banana: (not even at 100MHz) but always passes memtest/pi/prime etc up to near 300MHz, 2826MHz 1.45v just failed with that error
edit: hesky that's the way it works, core 1 on my CPU primes at 3GHz stock voltage..
Well, I got a opteron 165 0551vpmw. So far I am at 1.525 volts with 300x9=2700. I hope I don't have to hit 1.55 to make this thing stable at 2.7. Man I must have bad luck or something. I belive this is around my sixth processor :(
I failed prime at everything lower. Although the speed that I have failed has gradaually been longer. I have an Opty 170 on the way tomorrow.
I need self control! I'm on the verge of buying an Opteron 170....should I do it, any good steppings left?
You wont regret it, I was previously using a 146 that did 3200 easily also an X2 3800 @ 2.8GHz but my current 170 is by far the best to use/work with :woot:Quote:

Ah crap, I'm just about to order...haha, is the Opteron 170 really worth getting over the 165?? It costs about $100 more....before someone responds I've probably already ordered it by then.

I just ordered the Opteron 170!!! I'm so excited, haha, hope its worth the extra cash over the opteron 165. Will be a proud new owner.
the Opteron 170 is really worth if it is a 0550 VPMW ;)
I'll watch out for it, haha, it comes in next week, I should've paid the extra 5 dollars for express shipping!
The x10 multi is well worth the extra $ IMHO, you wont regret buying a 170 :fact:Quote:

i cant find the vpmw's on that site, only pretested - 1 hour of prime is not stable for me at all:nono:, and the prices are way to high..well i hoping for 3 ghz with my vpmw, already have upmw @2850mhz..
did you try your max oc, prime stable? what batch do you have?
Wow, they are proud of them tested puppies. I tried to translate into english but couldn't. Does it say they do dual prime and for how long? Does it say if they used the stock cooler?Quote:

165 0550 UPMW at 3.0ghz, 1.65 vCore on single stage. I don't think the memory controller can handle anything over 275. System was unstable with memory speeds greater than that. Haven't had the chance to tweak the memory at 250Mhz, so Im sure it can run faster. Just wanted to find the max speed of the chip.
With water cooling you should be able to push this chip alot further than me. All I have is air cooling currently!Quote:

I'm on aircooling, but my temps are generally lower than a Big Typhoon.

Stepping - 0546 XPMW
Cooling - XP90 + generic 92mm Fan:mad:
Problem is it does OC well, infact it has gone to 2.7 also but the temps are soo high, itfreaks me out.
@ 2.6G and at full load temps reach 57c
So currently searching for a good cooling solution.
But unfortunatel in india here, there isnt much choice..:(

And here you can order the 3 Gig pretested.
Vorkasse means if you pay first over a Bank Shipping cost 15Euros
Nachnahme means if you pay at delivery that are 40 Euros cash.
And Shipping in Foreign Countries delivers UPS.

^ lol Opteron 170 pretested to 3 Ghz - 619 Euros
619 euros = 737 USD, almost twice the cost of an Opteron 170...
I have bought CPUs pretested by other peeps, but just paying hundreds extra for these insane chips... kinda ridiculous.
Its easier to buy an FX60. And you can buy that Chip in your country.
I would not buy such an expensive Chip from that shop.Thats too much.
I bought my VPMW for 415Euros including shipping in germany. And that was cheap.
But 619Euos thats 200Euros too much!!!!
Yes, they really try to suck the most out of it....and not that good OC's either...primed an hour..bah!
...these kinda ppl p*** me off really.
EDIT: just realized my first post was a rambling one...lol!
..sorry about that fellas, will behave in future ;)
But an FX60 isn't worth it to me, the joy of overclocking stems in part from getting the most ouf ot a 150-300 $ CPU. It isn't worth it to most people to spend 2-3 times that much for a couple hundred Mhz more.
Idk, i just don't like to see overclocking degenerate into plopping down 700$ for a 400$, albeit pretested, CPU. It is more fun when there's chance involved.
Exactly.FX series, even though excellent, never actually appealed to me cos of the cost factor.
Oyes, that is just way over the top...and just thinking of taking off the hat from it...brrr!
To much value to play with...and if you get a bad performer...hehe, dissapointment grows linear with invested buck ;)
welcome to XS Clint
Detract nice result. But not much enough with an single Stage cooling.
And you are using Prime Lite.
Another ist Prime95 V24.14 Custom FFts in place.
And thats my under Watercooling.
Absolute 0 ic can`t understand why you can not get some VPMWs in the USA.
There must be much more CHips than here in Europe!!!

Thanks:)
Never said i couldn't get them, i said i wouldn't pay 700$ for a 400$ CPU.Quote:

You are right Absolute. Secondhand could be expensive.
And whats about little Shops in the USA.
USA are much bigger then Germany. USA is like whole Europe.
There must be a lot of Shop in the States or Canada or Mexico.
There are, but not very many sell Opterons. I live in the bay area so i'm by San Jose and San Francisco but i've never heard of a place that sells dual core Opties for s939. We're got huge retailers, not many small retailers... none that cater to overclocking. More like Fry's and CompUSA.
What are your ambient temps? Mine with ~20c ambient and a Big Typhoon, with stock volts does 2.6G, 26c idle and 38c load. But it is a 165 CCBWE 0551 UPMW. My main question was about your ambient temp, because 57c load seems too much. What volts do you need to get to 2.6G? It seems the DC Opterons OC better with low volts, have you tried how far can you get with stock volts?Quote:

You don't have to be sifting through the ocean of posts here to find that out. Just read a tiny bit and you can see about what they can do. This is one of the most general questions in a while. Just read.:fact:Quote:

...170 CCBWE 0551UPMW will be here for testing today.
I have an Opteron 170 0550 UPMW on order from Max2 Multimedia here in Canada.
From what I am reading the 0550 VPMW is much better.
Is it worth trying to get one over the 0550 UPMW or is the 0550 UPMW a decent overclocker as well?
I will be happy with 2800 at anything near stock Vcore.
I have a 170 UPMW 0550 *408L and its currently priming 2800 @1.45 vcore.

Well, I have the same one as the one in the picture. So far 2.7ghz with 1.3v 8hrs prime. Temps are ~30c idle and ~45C full load. Room temp is around 74F. This chip runs slightly warmer than my other two. I was getting around the same temps with 1.475 on my tpmw. Tried 3ghz with 1.5 but if failed prime fairly quickly. I'm working on trying to get my memory straight before I try to go any higher. I have to say... This thing is da bomb :woot:Quote:
