blend test for prime ?
memtest does not recognize 4 gb
i'll try OCCT, thank's for reply
Maybe I was a bit too tired when I wrote the instructions ;)
For the first step you need to use Afudos and not EZ-Flash.
AFUDOS 2.36
Download AFUDOS and extract it to desired location.
Copy AFUDOS.exe to the root of USB memory.
Boot to dos and write AFUDOS /iLOADER.rom
When the programming is completed reboot and start EZ-Flash.
Then update in RAMPAGE.rom
can you try 1004 and revert to 0907 using ez flash ?? also does running vista x64 affect anything...
Going to be buying ram for this board... what seems to be compatible right out of the box ? Mushkin has some 1.8v DDR 800 2x2gb kits
It works with EZ-Flash also, but only model name chanced :D
Screenshot
My AVG Anti-virus detected a Trojan Horse in the CPUZ.exe as it initiated last nigh; It quarrentined but not till after some of my .Dll files where corrupted or changed. Now I ger error mesiges all the time.
Thought you guys might want to know!
Well I did it

Now all I have to do is get this bios sorted out.
MAJOR settings
I just did it Kup
OMG what :banana::banana::banana: load of settings to sort out
 to stilt for this kick ass mod
Haha, I just saw! I expect results within the hour...! :D
Was it easy using AFUDOS?
Yep, same here
I hope to have something sorted out shortly
I have the cpu back to 4300 now to sort out this ram settings
Easy as hell using AFUDOS, was harder to get maximus to boot from the usb drive
Interesting, Do you wanna post some clock for clock performance comparisons? If it works out to be worth the flash I'll add it to the big thread.
Anyone wanna test Quad FSB on this bios?
I think I have to redo the OS, my web pages wont refresh, had to grab the lappy to post here. Crossing fingers its not because of the conversion.
I'll redo the OS and do so comparisons, so far I am impressed, Vista seems to boot way faster and my ram is not overclocked yet.
Interesting? Not worth making a Ghost image just incase? Lets hope this flash doesn't mess up the onboard kit?
Could you not just reinstall the drivers, as per the Rampage support page?
Good call, I never even thought to update to Rampage drivers
They should be the same, but you never know if the Rampage updates anything within the firmware which relates to these onboard parts?
Well unfortunately, there is only a user manual and a beta bios 207 for download. This is rather disturbing, Everest does not display ANY ram settings. But the plus side is its 30 mins prime stable blend test
Did you do a full CMOS clear and default settings load?
Ghost your OS and try a quick reinstall?
It worked great for me. I booted right into Vista 64 after the update.
Thanks Man
I'm running Prime95 now on my 8400 and it seems stable where it was before.
Ram looks like it will .05 more volts to be stable at 1069 555-15. Timings are a little tighter I think.
Unfortunately I have no before and after test...
Wow, big cojones! Good luck dude! Keep us posted...
This is going to be good... maybe we finally get the performance out of the Formula we've been expecting?
no turning back now!
Which mosfet coolers are you guys using?
HR-09S type 2
or
HR-09U type 2
thanks
I have one of each. The slant for the top most set of mosfets and the upright for the one near the i/o panel.
i'm really excited about this, and am seriously thinking about taking the dive. keep us updated...!
Stilt this is tight man, good work. Risk taking and innovative thinking can reap big rewards. just glad it was you that tried it, and not me.:D
Awesome thanks Gunlance and ericab :D
Shame than i sold my Maximus 2 months ago :D
This would be nice to test...
I had a couple of problems with Maximus this weekend so i removed thermalright cooling and put the stock something back i just changed the "chewing gum" from the spreaders with an MX-2 but .. in Load the NB is 55 - 60 and NB is 52 - 56, the Mosfets are around 45 - 50
And it's sitting at thise chipset heatspreaders as tight jeans on Pamela Anderson ...
That's not funny, i had 48 on NB and 42 on SB with HR05 SLI/IFX, and HR-09S type 2 + HR-09U type 2 on mosfets 37 - 39. That's a big change .. the only + is that now i don't need to be so extremly carefull when taking the MOBO out of the Case but seriously hose temps with stock suck
The NB is only +0.1 V up. Any thought's or i just shouldn't care until it works
[ I won't take out the MOBO out until i get a new case i accidentaly bought the Gigabyte 570S need the 570 without S ]
Btw what's the VID for Q6600 1.225 or 1.175 ?
Awesome idea stilt!
Maybe someone will post benches to see if it's worth doing this.. in fact, I wonder what good things will happen when the Rampage BIOS matures..
Maybe a dumb question but must ask :)
If i do this rampage mod, can i only use rampage bioses afterwards ?????
I search some beautiful logos for Maximus Formula to change with AsusMyLogo.
Because defaut logo isn't nice. Anyone could make me a very good logo look like the Maximus Formula Package ? with little "G" logo, littel "Intel" Logo, etc...
Same style, fonts, etc... ?
A better logo it could be official ;)
UPDATE
re installed chipset driver from MAximus CD and all seems well.
Everest is normal again. Bandwidth is so /so but I have yet to get my ram back up to 1147. currently 1:1
3dmark score is 500 points higher than maximus.
CPU needs a little less volts 1.37 now instead of 1.38.
Everything is looking real positive
Can P5E flash bios turn to Rampage
And Can P5E flash bios turn to Maximus How?
Well so far I can say it looks like its going to be worth it.
A few bugs with everest and stuff but nothing that couldnt be sorted out.
Bios is insane with ram settings, Trans Booster is totally redone with alot more options. Going to do a clean install ( maybe not needed ) just to make sure everything is setup properly and then will start comparing volts and benches.
Did a quick little run and I have a extra 500 points in 3dmark, and cpu needs a little less volts to be stable.
I am very tempted to give this a go , can you confirm that the way to do it is now correct in the instructions in the first post , thanks
Thanks for the update Stilt  Now all we need is a bios for high FSB with Wolfdale :D
Could you please check FSB with your E8400?
I hit a wall at 4500@1.45 on Maximus.
I will test today and find the max, my everest bug is back however so maybe after a fresh install all will be sorted.
Everest seems unable to display any ram information, ie Speed, FSB Ratio ect.
Anyone could make a better logo for Maximus Formula SE for MyLogo (boot) ?
;)
Please.
Grn,
Please keep us updated as to how this goes. I will attempt this tonite.
Now, all you did was put the Rampage BIOS on a USB stick (or similar) and used EZ-Flash?
Renegade have a look here.
Is the loader bios made only for maximus formula and not working on P5E ?
because there`s no way i could flash mine.....
Could this be done with a P5K-Premium / Blitz Formula?
Anyone test bench and result?
Thanks
P5E -> Maximus:
Would probably kill the board.
Even the layout is same there are few chips missing from P5E compared to Maximus.
It might work but I recon there aren´t that many volunteers for a high risk test like this.
P5K Deluxe / Premium -> Blitz:
Blitz uses IDT lane splitter so most likely does not work.
P5E3 -> Maximus Extreme:
Same as Blitz, IDT lane splitter on board so...
Just flashed to Rampage Formula and everything seems fine. I will play with it more later on tonight. Im not an expert in the field of over clocking but Im learning from you guys so keep up the good work!
Em.. Where I can find info about "How update Bios with EZ-Flash ?"
I just got home from work, I had to leave early cause I'm (cough cough) sick
Going to test some clocks and redo OS, still have the web pages wont refresh issue and Everest is being a :banana::banana::banana::banana: not reporting any ram info.
I installed some MS web :banana::banana::banana: via an update yesterday so that might be the cause of the web pages problem.
CPUZ reports everything so I might just need a new version of everest.
Going to post the main setup bios screen and maybe some pll can helpl with some ram settings

Stilt
Did you have any negative effects from this conversion?
Just about to redo my OS to try and rid myself of a few bugs.
Everest is NOT reporting any ram info,
Web pages are sometimes refreshing and sometimes not.
CPUZ is reporting everything properly tho. Any ideas / suggestions?
I'm running 4.20.1170 Ultimate, I think its the newest.
Maybe a reinstall will sort it out
Grn, that's the newest official version but the most recent beta 4.20.1307 is pretty much perfect for the Asus boards! Have a look for it.
Grnfinger, could you please check the range for CPU PLL?
Is it possible to set values from 1.4 to 1.5v? I'm just asking because this would be a nice way to counter the overvolting of said voltage...
thnx kup newer version seems to be the ticket
All good? I hope so, because a few more positive words and I think I'll be flashing the board too...
Well as some of you may know, I flashed to 0505 a few weeks back and since then my system, has been THE MOST STABLE it has ever been, not a single crash for the best part of 2 weeks.
I then tried 1004 and guess what came free with it, that's right...random reboots. Folding/Prime/OCCT stable for as long as I could want to test it and yet would still randomly crash.
Back on 0505 now and the problems seems to have gone away again!
I installed MS Silverlight yesterday, I would recommend NOT doing it.
Web pages refresh now after that pos is removed.
New Everest is working 100% and showing ALL info as b4.
Still going to redo OS to 64bit for I have another 2GB's of ram sitting on my desk begging for some use.
Was alittle concerned last night but all problems are resolved !
Both bios versions are built for the exact same chipset logic. The rampage version might attempt to tighten up a bit of the behind the scenes stuff in an effort to flex the higher binned x48 version of Bearlake. Using this bios with an X38 chipset may cause slightly higher NB/MCH voltage requirements for settings that would normally be stable using the original Maximus bios.
I hope that with a more mature bios it will have a more flexible setting. They have TRFC maxed at 42 again, but its beta bios 207, so there is hope.
Did the mod yesterday, and so far so good. I have no glitches or bugs whatsoever. However, this board acts like the P965 in that it runs very loose with higher fsbs. Lowest TRD I could run around 470is fsb was 8, with higher NB volts, compared to bios 1003. This thing does work however, and goes to show what I said earlier about these chipsets and boards being the same. If only asus wasn't such a jerk. My advice, hold off a while longer and see what the next bios release for the Rampage brings. So far, I see no reason - performance wise - to do the conversion. My 2 cents.
im going to drop in a retail q9550 this friday :yepp:
hopefully 1004 bios + this cpu = very oc friendly. im hoping for 4ghz, but even 3.933 like i have now would be sufficient as its equivilent to about 4.1 or so on a q6600.
congrats on all of you with the rampage bios. im still going to wait for further releases then pick the best bios option based on what everyone is doing here. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK
do you recommand 1004 bios ?
New Everest now reports properly
http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/f...inger/rmp1.png
How is it performing?
I have the files on the stick ready to go so any feedback would be appreciated
I haven't installed this motherboard inside my case yet, I was testing it outside first, and am glad I did.
I have the Asus Maximus Formula motherboard, and so far this board is acting very weird with my Transcend memory. (using an e8400 cpu)
I have four 1g sticks of the Transcend ddr2 800mhz memory (two sets of matched pairs). When I do a memtest on them, I found that one stick out of each pair gives me errors. The other stick out of each pair does not.
If I put the "bad" stick to test back in my previous AMD computer, it has no errors.
So does that mean the memory is still bad? It makes no sense. I've never had this odd problem before with a motherboard.
This is the memory I have:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820208283
I managed to flash the board back to Maximus Formula by using a engineer version of AFUDOS.
In the engineer version it is possible to turn off the "security" that prevents flashing in case the current ROMID and new ROMID & version would mismatch.
It is also unneccessary to use loader.rom & khan.exe because the correct bios can be flashed straight in.
Unfortunately I cannot share this version of AFUDOS.
In case Asus would deny bios updates for modded boards by changing the ROMID for Rampage (since the shipments have not started?) I will come to rescue.
Is it not possible to supply this engineer version so people can restore their boards if they don't like the Rampage bios? Or even just hint to a location?
Writting this on my "Rampage".. everything seems to work nicely so far, Ill do a little more testing hopefully this board can push the limit a little further.
Quite a brave move Stilt to flash your maximus in the first place without knowing what would happend, and thanks for informing us about this cool mod.
http://www.lavalys.com:8081/beta/eve...ori5j1htcv.zip
Here you go, for anyone who doesn't have it. MODS, this should still be within the rules as it doesn't supply a key or activation, just the trial version of the software in the latest incarnation.
bypassing the ROMID without the engineering version---
supposedly, the "/nr” and “/n" switches disable afudos from checking ROMID
http://img225.imageshack.us/img225/8...pagefj1.th.jpg
my one works fine too :D.
Stilt, you are the man! I personally believe you're doing what Asus should have done (wishful thinking), if only they were a company with any moral standard. makes you wonder how many more crippled boards there are just so Asus can market the next board as the greatest thing.... oh... Commando comes to mind.
PS: Did the mod... for a beta bios, there are no significant negatives. Bios 1003 on the Maximus allowed me to run at TRD 7 well past 500 fsb, this won't . Bios 907 didn't let me do same either. Here's to hoping for that killer bios from asus; and oh... to the Stilt for saving me a couple of hundred bucks! :toast:
Will it bugger up my raid array do you recon
Seems to run better with lower vcore than it did before the mod.
270 FSB, 1.36Vcore, PL7
http://www.suntech.dk/images/wprime.jpg
Andyr - Didn't affect my raid0 array on my C drive
With a fresh OS install it's really flying now.
I can post 525x9 altho not stable but it will post unlike the Maximus.
Everything seems to be running smoothly.
Did anyone require more NB volts for stability after the mod?
