OCZ had isues with boards, because they needed more voltage, but the default bios value was 1.8V (which isnt enough to boot). But the new OCZ memory revisions seems to be fixed.


My question=
Yesterday, i was playing with memset, i set the CAS to 4 (from 5), then immediatly pc rebooted. I saw in ICH8R that my raid0 setup had an error, the second harddisk wasnt recognized as a raid, but non-raid. In the top ''failed''.

I still hoped that it ll boot windows, but it did not.

I ve tried, resetting bios, setting to ide/ahci and back to raid. But still , no go.

Now i am trying to make a new raid array without formatting , therefore i (think) i will just need to make the same ''volume'' name.

Therefore, i concluded to buy a single sata2 harddisk. Just for data (mostly gamebackups).
And i want to use this in AHCI mode (ncq and other stuff).

But how am i going to configure this in combination with my raptor raid 0?

i'm also bothering with this disc stuff and i need some help. soon i'm installing windows again and this time i want to use F6 stuff. the thing is i can't find that storage matrix makedisk program to make floppy, though i allready had it. so if anybody knows the link would be really great. also, which option exactly do i need to pick in the list since i read on intel site that 82801HR is for ICH8, but on storage matrix page that one isn't on the list that is suppose to show so i'm a bit lost. i'm doing this F6 for the first time now so excuse my noobish. my situation is only one HDD in my computer, so no raid, and i just want to have ahci working. on this windows i have now i installed matrix drivers later, switched to ahci in bios and since then sandra and everest don't properly analyse my HDD. so, thanks a lot for the help.

it is not crushed . It also happened to me several times.
Fix= play with the sata and power cables while rebootnig until ich8r detect the drive.

First of all , set in bios the intel controller to AHCI.

Then download this:

(u can select it byurself by going to asus.com)

Make disk, choose 32 or 64 bit driver.
Press f6 while install, load ahci driver.

i did try this allready, didnt help.
I am currenctly reinstalling windows.

So, it seems to bee clear - the PCIE x1 issue on P5B-DX only and just
only appears, when NB Vcore=1.65V (by BIOS>614 only!).
Also by [Auto] setting and FSB>375, when BIOS increases the V-NB to
1.65V automatically, PCIE x1 issue appears.
For overclocking (FSB>375 resp.) it's absolutely necessary, set the V-NB
manually to 1.45 or 1.55V.
By this, PCIE always works x16 !

I got the 1x issue. I Shut down, pulled power for 1 min, started again and it was back at 16x.

Is it worth getting a sound card? And what cheap soundcard would do the job, sub £40?

when you add another sata drive when you already have raid sata the board sees the drive as another raid drive as setup in the bios sata as raid. yes it sucks there must be a way but dont seem there is. so many sata ports, why did asus do this??? so sata or raid but not both. have you tried connecting the sata to the external jmicron connector it located at the back of the board. if your using raid0 it most important you make an image of the array. when oc it easy to corrupt data especially raid. i tried and i get a question mark on the spare drive in xp probably because its not part of the array.

i found out this because i had a friends drive i wanted to copy data off so i thought simply to plug his sata drive into my board which was raid0 but the damn board couldnt even see it no matter what i tried in the bios as a seperate drive. how crap is that!

But, now u are telling me that i cannot use any non raid-ahci harddisk on the ich8 controller?

Hi Guys,

I'm new to the overclocking scene and need some help on the BIOS settings.
I've followed FCG's recommended settings save for all the power settings.
I intend to run my system @ 3.2gHz(400x8) daily.
Here are my system specs-

Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 (B2 Stepping) on a Scythe Infinity
Asus P5B-D Wifi/AP on rev. 0804
GEIL DDR2-800 Ultra 2GB Dual Channel 4-4-4-12 (Should be D9s)
Antec P180B
Antec TRIO 650W

I live in Singapore and the ambient temps are around 31 degrees celsius.
Tried 400x8 on 1.325vcore, 1.3 on vfsb, rest on auto. Temps at 53 degrees with PECI on, and 42 with PECI off. Was stable on orthos at 12hours but gave an error at 14hours :(

How can I check if I have the PCIE x1 problem?
Can anyone give me a hand on the memory settings? There's a load of them.
Also, what voltages should I run the vcore,vfsb and vnb at?

Hmmmmm, having a familiar issue and forget how to fix it.....USB controller takes forever/doesn't initialize.

Essentially, system works perfectly fine, then if I need to turn power off (turn the PSU off or unplug it, not a reset or power-down) for w/e reason, it won't come back up past the initializing USB controller step, regardless of what's plugged in. Multiple battery pulls and restart techniques have done nothing......again, I've had this before and got around it, but forget how :(

EDIT: btw, have had this issue on every BIOS I've tried and am on 711 now.

The problem is quite random and fixing it simply involves changing things, for some, like me all it takes is unplugging the righ for 30 seconds, for others, they need to change certain bios settings. I am fairly positive it has nothing to do with volts though, when it changes back from a voltage change that simply means you were lucky and it was counicidence..

I have an issue that I don't quite know how to fix and a question I'm not sure of.

I changed a setting for my memory that wouldn't boot, now after clear cmos many times and trying to get the failsafe boot I can't get POST. My specs are in my sig. Any suggestions I can try? I'm hoping not to need to go get some different memory just to boot this thing.

Also what is the correct position of the chassis intrustion jumper? I want to make sure I didn't accidently put it on incorrectly. Anyone know which way it's supposed to be oriented?

try booting with only 1 stick of ram. i have the same ram and i have to pull out 1 of the sticks to boot after a bios reset i think it is because it is d9gmh and when a board undervolts as bad as this one it isn't enough for 2 sticks.
and for the record it is the same stick i have to pull to let it boot if i pull the other one it won't post. i know it is probably a bad stick but at 2.3 they are stable @ over 500mhz so i can deal with the reset issue.

Tried 1 stick no go, I'm letting the board sit with all connections removed and the battery disconnected and the cmos jumper set to clear. Gonna see how that works. This pisses me off to say the least:(

Well, my problem magically fixed itself. Just randomly tried to boot and it did...changed the voltage back to 2.4 and back on DDR2-1000 5-4-4-8

Dredd if it does that it generally locks me out if i do something bad with memory what ya do then is turn off the computer and turn off the PSU and leave it off for a bit, and then start it back up and it should POST

i posted this a while back with same issue. one obvious way was to lower overclock and increase voltages (even though i was orthos stable for hours with higher fsb). then i added a fan on northbridge and put some heatsinks on the power things (not sure what it's called) near where the heatpipe is (you will see 2 holes for additional heatsink). that so far has resolved the usb hanging.

Stock everything.....ORTHOS stable at 3.73GHz....cooling isn't an issue. 'Motherboard' temp reading was 21C under 24/7 100% CPU load before the power-off (and still is now).

Anyway, it randomly started to work about 10 min ago.....w/e :confused:

You dont need to clear CMOS. When overclocked failed , just turn off PSU, wait at least 5 seconds, then turn back on.

Afterwards, it will ask to get in bios (f1) or to reset bios to defaults (f2).

I press f1 :D

2dredd, those low latencys doesnt make a huge difference. It is not worth that high voltage and extra watercooling (according to signature).
For example, my gskill hz do 500mhz @ 2.15V, 5-4-4-12, higher freq is much more important than timings.

I had an uknown device in hardware panel , many others too. After i installed all drivers it was still there. So i just let it to be unknown.

Yesterday, i installed pcprobe, and somehow; now i dont see the unknown device anymore.

Try pcprobe, and let me know /:)

Weird problem:
Asus won't accept my serial number when I try to register my P5B-D online. Which is strange because I got it directly from the retail box it came in, right where I was instructed. And I have tried multiple times as well, seeing if maybe even 0's are O's and vice versa, but still no luck. Curses.

do you have powered USB hub attached. I do. maybe that's the problem....

Didn't matter what I had plugged in....whether I used 0 ports or 6 (three being hubbed). Just randomly started working :confused:

Completely borked my OS now with the sound card settings....set AC97 for front panel and I can't get my X-Fi to not crash windows any longer, lol.

I had an uknown device in hardware panel , many others too. After i installed all drivers it was still there. So i just let it to be unknown.

Yesterday, i installed pcprobe, and somehow; now i dont see the unknown device anymore.

You don't actually have to install any of these packages if you don't want to. All you need is to extract the Asus ACPI drivers from the archives and point your device manager in the right direction.

Those, who have an uknown device in hardware panel, just install probe or Ai booster ( i have only tested probe) .

Just posting because i got a new P5B-D wifi from an rma and the cold restart thing doesn't happen anymore. I guess it is a motherboard problem as the setup was identical on both boards.

can some one please answer this question.

In bios on all 3 of my P5B deluxe boards that i have tried in bios when you go up or down with settings it is like slow(slide show effect) and refreshs page slow, only started happening.

What is the cause of this. could it be that i have bad ram or something?

I added another sata drive to my system that I already had up and running with Raid0 without any issues.

Ok i have fiound the problem when 8800GTX is installed on my P5B the bios goes crazy and is very slow it is like using bios with slow motion..



My question is does any one know how to fix this??

did you try the 0903 Beta Bios from Asus? (only for P5B Dlx!)

Edit: the 0903 fixed some problems with 8800GTX Cards, but i dont know which problems.

when i remove the 8800GTX and use a 6500 PCI_E i don't have the problem. i am using bios 0804 will try the 903 beta right now.

So I'm trying out Vista 32 bit. I was able to get the asus wifi-ap solo utility to work, however it says the wlan adapter is not installed. i went to the device manager and everything is showing that it is installed. Any ideas or does anyone have a link for what I need?

Go to asus.com , then downloads, select p5b-d wifi, download its drivers.

I added my sata dvd burner to test with my raid0 setup, and it also worked.
So, i dont think adding a single harddisk would give any problems.

Is there any difference between sata slots 1,2,3,5,6 (bootable) and 3,4 (data) ?

I am a bit confused which slot i am gonna use.

MY sata burner worked good on bootable and data slots.

I have the same problem with the 8800GTS and P5B-Deluxe :(

Info on german forums is that 0903 was issued as a beta to try to fix Nvidia 8xxx series compatibility problems. It seems that this is not the case as you stated.

However I wonder why there is no updated beta bios yet. Anyone tried to call Asus support? They usually give out beta bioses on request.

I don't have a nVidia 8xxx series but the 0903 bios is definatly not that slow. I know im running it right now.

I do get have and have gotten since I've got the board a glitch where I have to restart the computer many times because the BIOS actually freezes! Its rather annoying when you get through 2-3 settings just to have it lock up when changing the last or trying to get to the save menu. It doesn't happen all the time but when it does it comes in packs of 3-4.

Hi,

I have a P5B-E Plus BIOS 0304, and initially I have the same problem. After two nights of searching and trials, I discovered that if I bump up the NB voltage, the link goes to x1. Otherwise, x16 is possible.

Yea - it's not the PSU. I popped back in the 7950 GX2 and the lag in BIOS is gone. Its something with VGA and the GTX/GTS cards ;) Using the latest BIOS here for the P5B-E and an OCZ 520w PSU.

In the OC field is there any improvement with the 0903 vs 0804 ?

And the false restarts after exiting bios @ higher FSB's ?

The false restarts and the BIOS changing the boot strap.

I run my E6400 L628A @ 3,55Ghz, 1.45v with bios 614.. But it won't go any further with higher voltage :s I'll try lapping it and see if that's gonna make any difference. SPI 1M @ 3,65GHz, 3dmark01 stable @ 3,6GHz, it froze in 05 at 3,6 though.

Till today, i didnt have the pcix issue. But, i set all the voltages (except vcore and vdimm) to AUTO.
And opened cod2 to play, but the game was :banana::banana::banana::banana:ing slow, first thing i thought was, pcix1?? And yep, it was at x1.

Normally, my voltages are manually set .

So, hereby, i confirm that x1 is REALLY a voltage setting problem (maybe a combination of voltages).
I am immediatly going to set my old voltages.

Do not set to auto, I repeat, do NOT set to AUTO

Seems that other ppl are having the slow bios prob with a 8800 and others not. Strange... :confused:

I'd like to know this as well.... having problems hooking my ide burner up with one of those ide - sata host adapters. I thought the problem was b/c I am using a matrix raid setup, but maybe not ?

my pci-e sometimes goes to x1 if my fsb is over 480ish.all i do is shutdown and power my psu off and on,when i reboot it is back to x16.

i always leave my voltages on auto.i have tried my nb on 1.45 but it seems to fail to boot windows sometimes if it is set at this.so i jst leave them on auto.

Just ordered this board along with some Corsair XMS2 6400CL5.

Bit puzzled to how Im going to get on though, Have read that quite a few people have been able to get a descent overclock from this RAM and board.

I can only find one problem with the ram for this board, which seems to be the BIOS's fault, whereas I can see many others with Team, OCZ and G.Skill.

also in bios when you click system monitor it freezes the computer. Thats on all 3 boards that i had.

Is it just me or does it seem to take an undue amount of pressure to latch the lever on the CPU socket??

My E6400 is seated properly, but compared to my other builds (AMD and Intel) the socket lever puts a lot of pressure on the heatspreader. Granted this is my first Conroe build. My last Intel build was an IC7G-MAX3...... pins on the CPU instead of in the socket.

Anyone else think the same??

Any newer bios than 903 out for the P5BD?

The E6400 did 50MHz more lapped, but still, if set the voltage above 1,5v it doesn't help OCing.

Any suggestions?

How accurate is PC probe as i set my ram to auto and i looked in PC probe and it said my ram was running at 3.3v? The ram is PC2-6400 crucial ballistix.

I got a this problem also.
When I change my fsb it kind of flickers the screen.
It doesn't go crazy it's just different.
I was running the 614's when I installed my 8800gtx and noticed it.
Flashed to 804's, no change.
Also, when I boot up, I can only call it an extended drive read-out. Before it would read the sata's and optical drives then go to the JMicron, then to begin to boot Xp up. Now I get this..

All this wasn't there before..
Maybe the v.card bios has something to do with messing with the mb bios??

When I set my nb voltage to 1.65 I get the 1x problem. Re-set it 1.55 and rebooted and it was back to 16x.

today was the first day i got the 1x problem. will try 1.55 on NB to see if it'll fix the problem.

I am having a huge problem right. Its finals week and my computer just died. I had my p5b-deluxe/wifi + e6660 running at 3.02 ghz 336x9 vcore = 1.3215 V in bios. All of a sudden, my system restarted randomly. So i set cpu clocks to stock. The random restarts kept occuring but i noticed that the time for the comp to restart gradually decreased to the point where my Windows system files were corrupt so i couldn't even get into windows. I used Sea tools to scan my 7200.10 harddrive since i thought it was fried and found tons of bad sectors.

I just received a new wd3200ks sataII drive yesterday and attempted to install windows. I tried three different windows xp disks and none could complete install. One error that I keep getting is "error 32768 at line 5897 in d:\xpsp1\base\boot\setup\setup.c" Another reoccuring error is that it fails to copy system files to the hd once I complete the format.

I tried clearing CMOS ram and installing a new bios but that didnt' work. I have a feeling something may be wrong with the mobo. Is it possible my cpu could have blown? I also tried each individual stick of ram by itself to no avail

The way I do it is;
With the ps off and all plugs un-plugged. Or out of the case.
Make a jumper wire, thin enough to put into the holes of the 20/24 pin mb power plug.
Stick one end into the green wire hole, the other into one of the black ones. This will power up the ps when you turn it on.
Black lead of dmm to one of the black wired holes. The red lead goes to the following, one at a time. The red wire hole is the 5 volt, the yellow is the 12 volt, and the orange is the 3.3 volt rail.
This way seems to work for me.
The guides in the above link work for when you need to check under load/idles.
This way you can check before you install.

Plus you could check it to eliminate this as the problem.
I would also take mb out of the case, is in a case? Set it up on a bench, table, whatever is non-conductive, then try it. Maybe you got something shorting the mb out on the case? Just a thought.

well, i ve been doing some testing.
The Sb voltage, didnt make a difference, only boots frequently at 16x/x1.
But after i set nb to 1.45/1.55 it holds at 16x.
THe northbridge-voltage must be the key.

Pci freq is let by 100MHz. ( cuz some say setting to 96 is fixing it......)

Just got all the parts in my "new build" sig. Can't load the OS. I get into BIOS to see I have 614. When I exit the BIOS I get a read light on the CD, but no action. The "blinking cursor" in the upper left part of the screen tells me I have issues. I have no beep codes.

I've tried two CD readers; two IDE cables. Suggestions? TIA/phogger

I just re-did my stock cooler w/ ceramique. It has a cheesy paste on the NB...... just like on a GPU core. It comes right off w/ moderate pressure. Just make sure you have all four tabs on the stock heatpipe ready to release from the PCB so you don't twist the heatsink on the NB core and chip it. The other end (with the fins) just has some crappy tape that doesn't really stick, so that end will just come right off.

I'm waiting on my orders from D-Tek and DangerDen to set up my WC'ing, so I installed the optional fan on the stock heatpipe fins. I could light it off on the bench on air, but I'm just waiting for all my WC'ing stuff first.

i guess you were right. I disconnected everything cept for hd cdrom mobo cpu gpu ram. now it works. PSU is fried but my comp still runs. I thought seasonics were suppose to be reliable.

IT is accurate, but 3.3V is just not.

It has a Vdroop of 0.05V, for example , when u set to 2.25V, pcprobe will see 2.20V .

In ur case, 3.3V = 3.25V.
