Good luck to you too.
But just stop for a second and consider X79/39xx combo.
I've bought M4E/2600K&2500K, tried it and it was very short fun. Sold both CPU's and left M4E to wait for IvyBridge.

I thought of this platform week.
Read different reviews, responses of users. Estimated cost.
As I have found out, this platform is useful if you are engaged in engineering either scientific calculations, or video coding or something similar. In games, productivity of these processors same as at 1155, even if to take SLI decisions (i talking about 2-way SLI).
And as one processor 3930К here costs as much how many the motherboard 1155+2600К+about 8 GB RAM, and the computer at me is used basically for games the choice is obvious.
Nevertheless, thanks for council. I, probably, will return to this question when the prices on 2011 will fall to reasonable level.
Wow the next RST driver will support TRIM in RAID0!!!!
http://www.station-drivers.com/telec.../sata/11.5.htm
lol, yes we know... lets just hope the performance comes back up with it because some of us lost raid0 performance with this 11.5 release...
http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...=1#post4998064
By the way, someone here said that the IRST OROM version must also be the same as the driver version.
I strongly considered 'downgrading' my R3E to a 1155 mobo to use a 2500k. I seriously couldnt do that.
I strongly considered X79 ... but the prices OMG
........
So here is my compromise:

:)
Yes lets hope someone can do it properly without any negative side effect. I was forced to downgrade from the 11.5's back to the 11's because I was having so many application errors and most of my apps began to crash trying to launch them. I realized that I had recently only installed TWO newer drivers, ATI drivers and IRST drivers 11.5. So on the day before Thanksgiving I decided to drop back to the Alpha 11.0's and sure enough all my errors with applications magically returned. I am thankful that the 11.5's did not cause any corruption and that everything seems to be spot on back to normal without a re-install of Windows...
LOL, you and I think most alike. This has been on my mind as well. After my father upgraded his Core2 quad to a new Gigabyte z68 and an i7-2600k with 16gb of memory AND two M4's, I just couldn't believe how much faster his system felt over mine for the first time since the mid 1990's (yeah we been competing with systems over the years and generally I always win lol, err, but Im not sure now)... So, finally he could afford a great system, but now its me who has to be frugal with my upgrades these years, lol. So I am thinking of getting 12GB OR 24GB of the fastest possible memory, and try and find a retired 6 core Gulftown for a good price. Nothing short of a ROG motherboard quality will do me, so this way I can keep my ROG RIIIE a little while longer (we all know the build quality should last), and just throw some faster components at it. I think that "should" satisfy me a while longer. haha I hope...
I'm gonna keep this till its obsolete, the mobo + CPU were too expensive to just throw out second hand, and the only replacement I could possibly have is a Rampage 4 Extreme or Formula, and thats not gonna happen with their prices:

It is also stable at 4.5 Ghz @ 1.38v, but my measly Antec Kuhler H2O 620 cant handle that lol. Dont really need a new CPU cooler, 4333 Mhz on this beast is great enough.
I'll just do benchies at 4.5 Ghz, 24/7 at 4.3 Ghz.
Linx done at 4.5 Ghz:

I felt like trying out the stock cooler because I really like the look of it, and also my H2O 620 needs replacing as it isnt sufficient ...

Antec Kuhler H2O 620 - 70 degrees
Intel cooler of performance mode - 81 degrees
Intel cooler on quiet mode - 87 degrees :x
What a fail. Got a red Phanteks cooler ordered :)
curious question, does this board run with 48gb's ?
saw some videos on youtube of some gigabite boards doing it :p
The black edition does officially:

The non black does not officially, but the boards arn't very different, so I bet it would with good memory and manual tweaking of timings.

I've been having a bit of fun with my R3E, 980x and Kingston KHX16000DULT1K3/6GX Elpida Hyper kit.

Even though it's the old SKU, it turns out these are MGH-E:

Nice run there, new old kit?
I also decided to reinstall my 2 Gb geil modules which I forgot to mention. The new cooler Im getting wont fit with anything other than low profile ram, I dont even need more than 12 Gb, and 1800 Mhz cas 7 is a lot better than 1600 Mhz cas 9 for gaming.
I already tried with just 3 modules and couldnt get them stable at 2000 Mhz, but that doesnt really matter when they do 1600 6-7-6, or 1800 7-8-7.
4 Gb modules will never do that, and there are no better low profile 2 Gb modules available than these geil ultra series ones.
My Mushkin blackline 998953 3x4GB 2000MHz 10-10-10-27-160-1T modules do 1600MHz 6-7-6-24-82-1T... At stock 2000MHz, they reliably do 9-10-9-25-110-1T. They're not low profile, but they're no g-skill trident or kingston hyperx...
Mushkin sells a 1600MHz 6-8-6-24-1T 3x4GB kit also... Not a stretch to think it would do 6-7-6-24-1T.
You cant get those in the UK though, I've only been looking at whats available to buy here on OCUK or Memoryc unfortunately.
Even if they did come to the UK, the prices would be too high. Triple channel memory kits have been phased out for a long time now, at least in the UK you cant anything decent for X58 unless you buy 3 lots of dual channel kits.
nice to see x58 #livingstrong
VERY nice run there GenAn. And what a surprise! MGH-E goodness :). I swear I had a feeling those had MGH-Es in em since they were still kicking so strong. Damn now I regret not testing all those sealed kits before selling em!
I happened to be testing my CGTs on the new R3E over the weekend as well. Not looking too shabby.

Hrm, I think the bandwidth looks woefully low on AIDA there spool? Weren't your old results like 22k-21k-24k?
@ Zoson
Yea I noticed the bandwidth wasn't as high as my previous runs, but like GenAn said, I was running Uncore twice that of memory before (4000MHz). On this particular run my Uncore was 22x (Mem multi 12x) so I figured that was the reason for the slower bandwidth? Also my core was running at only 4GHz.
@ GenAn
Where'd you find a W3470?? Lol lil typo I noticed in your sig ;)
I've had it for about a year :) http://i4memory.com/134049-post102.html
Doh I just saw the typo! LOL
Looks like I can get my ram to 1866 Mhz Cas 7 stable, I just needed to increase my QPI:

Gogo 4.65 Ghz CPU without HT next, please work.
