did you flash with the latest afudos if you dont the bootblock wont be programmed.
do you have a p4 chip you can put in the p4c. this will help reset the chip settings and should allow you to change the multi when you mut the dothan back in.
i have used 6 , 10,11,12 and 13 ok with the m740 but 8 wont post no matter what fsb.
this is common on most p4 boards with ct-479 that i have used.

Hi guys, just to let you know I have put together a 2.13 and P4P-800VM with the CT-479, will report back how I get on with overclocking it - a bit frustrated with the lack of FSB adjustment in bios but sure I can get around it somehow :)
First thought was to wire mod the ct-479 to default 800fsb but I have not looked at the specifics, (I know these ASUS boards seem to hit ocing walls if the default FSB is not set to 800). Anyway its just installing windows so I will look at that later.

EDIT - Now at 166FSBx16 = 2.6ghz RAM is only stable at 3-3-3-8 using 3:4, max FSB I have had is 185, now I seem to be hitting a wall around 170-180 as usual with the ASUS boards...oh and I see bigtoe suggested the 800fsb mod already, hoping as I have muti adjustment in BIOS I should be able to boot at 800FSB, just need to find the pins - can anyone advise?
I'm having trouble with my 770 and P4C800-E Deluxe. i1023ed.rom BIOS. (flashed and runs with P4)
When the power lead to the Ct-479 is plugged in and I press the power button the fans just spin for a second, then dead. Without it the fans continue spinning but the monitor stays blank. Has anyone experienced this before?
Any ideas what it could be - could it be a dead CPU? :(
Not the cpu, something is wrong, motherboard, PSU, prob, the PSU is shutting itself off because something is wrong. Check for short-circuits, test a p4 in there (to check if its the adaptor) , test another psu, etcQuote:

The system runs fine with a P4, I tested it to ensure that the BIOS flash worked. Also running the rig now with a P4, typing this :)

@Wwwww The problem is the VM board does not have FSB adjustment so cant boot at FSB other than 133 or 100, I need to trick it to think the default FSB is 200.
I need to find the BSEL pins to mod and would like to know if anyone else has done this as I dont want to fry my system!

I think there is a short between your cpu -> adapter -> MB cuz it would power down so fast. Or a blown adapter.
When my CT-479 blew a chip, my cpu fan still spun but got a blank screen and the MB was telling me there was a cpu error (P4C800ED with voice warnings turned on).
This happened to me twice last night - I was testing some other 770s and tried to boot after installing one. Got the fans on for a sec then nothing......I had not tightened the little screw that locks the CPU into the adapter socket. You must make sure this goes all the way round to the locked position.
2nd time I had 7 volted a 120mm fan, it didn't like that either, must be the type of fan (LED) causing problem as I have 7 volted many fans before. Anyway put it back to 12v and it booted fine.

if i remeber a dead cpu is the same as not having the power lead connected to the ct-479 fans spin but no post.
i had a problem like yours the fans would spin for a sec and then top but that was a faulty crystal orb fan on a vga card but if it works ok with a p4 and nothing else changed it wont be anything like that.
have you tried just the vga card , ram and cpu in case it's some thing else connected that does not like working with the ct-479.
also do you have a speaker connected does it beep in any way.

well if your cpu isn't getting warm it could either be the cpu or the adapter. the adapter is cheaper so replace that 1st.

It's not "full PAT".......It's some kind of "phseudo PAT".........You loose a LOT by booting at 201MHz.......Almost 1sec in Super-Pi....... ;)
ALSO Rams at 270MHz by booting at 201MHz, do worse than 240MHz by booting at 200MHz......

Hey. I was about to prove Mr. I-like-typing-in-bold wrong so I started to test SuperPi at different settings (all at 2750 MHz). Booting at both 250x11 and 201x11 and upping with clockgen gave the same result (~26,750).. But when I tried to boot at 200 MHz I found that I couldn't do it anymore.. no POST.. 201-250 MHz are ok but 200 MHz are no go...
What's up with that! :confused:

EDIT: Clockgen settings are sticky so they are applied in the next boot. But because you have no lock at 200mhz fsb and it stays at 250mhz set in clockgen it refuses to boot. You have to completely turn of the computer and then boot again.

I guess You're an experienced "clocker" (Jeg tror det iaffal<--Norwegian)..:)
So therefore I would guess You do not use "Auto" for any "boost" settings i Bios.
As far as I remember.. booting at FSB200 will probably set "Turbo" on by default for some boards/Bios-versions.. that will prevent certain configs (CPU/RAM/timing) from boting.. (Such "feature" is IMHO of no real value.. You should have the opportunity to tune "hidden" RAM timings manually).
Booting at FSB201 or higher "slackens" things up.. hence easy boot.. easy clocking thru ClockGen.. but slower times than booting at 200(Turbo).
I did notice the same as "I-like-typing-in-bold" when I was tweaking my 730 and P4P800SE.. better results in SuperPi at "boot-200" than i.e "boot-220".
The problem with P4P800SE is that to enable PCI/AGP-lock You have to boot at 200+ (for my setup anyhow).. and I get the best scores at 4:5 (OCZ gold rev.3.. nice fast chips)
Might help but I could not boot at 200 unless my memory was set to 400 or the 1:1 ratio. I just clockgen to my max fsb with shortcut in startup after that. Booting at 200 certainly sharpens the memory timings, so much so that I have to loosen the Dram latency setting a little with 875 Tweaker to get fully stable. Even so it still works out faster this way than booting at 201.

TL1000S: You were right, after some testing I found that switching from Turbo to Standard on the performance acceleration setting acctually let me boot at 200 MHz! I've always left it on Turbo, but I have a feeling it doesn't have any affect at all then for booting at 201+ FSB? Can someone confirm this?
gaddster: I tried (although very little) to loose up on the ram timings to get a boot in 'Turbo' mode, but it didn't help. But then I tried 2-2-2-5 just for kicks and it acctually booted! (Did that turn off Turbo mode also maby? :p: ) I've been running 2,5-3-3-5. Anyways this sounds like a bios issue to me..?
If I'm not doing anything wrong it seems like this 'booting at 200 FSB' business is exlusively for those that run 2-2-2-5 timings.. Too bad I'm on TCCD :(
Mr "I-like-typing-in-bold", tells you that yes you have to have rams that can do 2-2-2-5 so as to run them at full turbo - e.t.c. - Those are the BH-x modules....... :)
I boot at 200MHz fsb and I have "locked" the agp/pci within bios, at 72/37MHz.......As for the jumpers, I have them at 133MHz fsb on the adaptor......I've tried them at 100MHz too but I din't see anything better or worse......Quote:

I would suggest what alexio already adviced me: Try clearing the bios with the jumper and try again.. If that doesn't work reflash the bios - either with the same bios or maby another "old and trusted" bios.Quote:

So I got my new dothan 730 and my ct-479 today...
I already had the 1009.004 bios for my p4p800se
I plugged it in, with stock cooler, and it ran fine: booted, did a few benchies and surfed the net...but the temps were a bit too hot for my taste...
I mod the ct-479, bend the power pins down, and soldered the jumpers
I mount my cnps7000, and
it won't boot
i have no freaking idea what's wrong, the ct-479 looks fine (traces look perfect), the power connector is on the right way, the zalman 7000 is touching the die just the right amount, i have a shim and my die looks pristine, etc etc etc.

Elisha, I have heared that agp/pci lock doesn't work with ATI cards, nvidia woks fine, that is if you boot 200, if you boot 201, lock works.
