now if it dropped in price by say $99 I would buy one but $699 is just too much to ask for a card I am going to replace in 2 months anyways...
Bah, if it is really $699 I am not going to bother. That would be $300 to step-up from my old card, nearly as much as it cost in the first place for an increase of maybe 50-60% over my overclocked 7800GT eVGA 256MB @ 485/1160 :(. While I won't be able to get another card likely if I don't do it now (due to pricing and eBay hassles), that's just too much for the increase and in terms of absolute dollars, as well.
It took me an hour to get over the price......in the end I was like F* it.....I work for this stuff.....I'm getting one...and enjoy it..
I've had this 6800GT for like 1,5 years.....this new card will gonna give me alot of fun... :)
You guys really should stop complaining....I''ll have to play close to 1k for this card....that should give you an idea how lucky you guys are in the US... ;)
Just ordered a pair of the BFG 512MB cards...got 2 day air...hope to see them by next Wednesday.

well, I think it would depend. For high resolution textures the 512mb version may perform better (not neccesarily in terms of absolute frame rates, but in terms of quality settings at an acceptable frame rate) as the sli cards effectively have 256mb as they have to store even the texture data that the other card uses, so its effectively 40 pipes 256mb memory vs 24 pipes and 512mb memory both clocked far higher, undoubtedly each will have situations where it has advantages.
ahhh im so confused lol
48 pipe sli gtxs 256
or single 24pipe 512mb
high res max settings .. 1920x1200
wait until there are reviews with a comparison in the games/apps that you are likely to use at the resolution and settings you would like to use.
Sounds obvious, but its the only way to be sure.
if those are the choices than...the first one is the obvious choice to make.Quote:

40/24 = 1.66

Higher clocks and higher RAM compensate for pipeline bandwidth, so the story goes. :D

BTW, ZZF sells X1800XT for $549, last time i checked, which imo proves the "raising price" theory is wrong.
heh... to some people that's a whole car! or maybe a house in the 3rd world.. whew... ANyways, as far as video cards go, I will use a quote: "speed's just a matter of money, how fast do you wanna go" (from: Mad Max)... $1400'll get ya going real fast. :)Quote:

Far enough so that I had a video card which could run a Holodeck.. ;)Quote:

i would never never recomend a 6600gt over a 6600256mb unless the person was just gonna play counterstrike or call of duty or quake 3 or something
in new games the 6600 gt will have to run lower settings it may get higher fps but who cares thats not what gaming is about its about good fps and getting good gfx
