Now that I think about it, I dont think my overclock got any better when I stuck my pc outside the other night (idle went from 36c to 19c, load from 71c to 33c), and the overclock didn't get ANY better. I think a voltmod is greatly needed.
Do u have a x1800XL? Cause ur sig is a x800GTO.Quote:

well in a couple posts before that, I said I was talking about my x800GTO :D
Thought all XT cores had A15 processes and A14 was XL. At least that has been the current trend til they probley use up the A14 stock that was made who knows.Quote:

Well, my core on sapphire XL was A15, two other friends have A15 too on sapphire, on my HIS i will check today :)Quote:

So that rules out the cooler being the problem. It just has to be something else!Quote:

Just an update on my card. Did a fresh format on new 74GB raptors and am still at stock volts and clocks with my Zalman. Everything seems to be ok though I have not dared to overclock yet as I am afraid. Running 5.11 from a fresh install so no worries of dirty drivers that is for sure. Looped 01 and 03 for hours yesterday without issues, no more rainbow borders etc though who knows what will happen when the card goes under more stress. I have never really used the voltage program on my card and the highest I ever clocked it was 575/550 which was CCC's max. That OC is paltry compared to others. I also didnt overclock at all till a couple days after I owned the card to be sure it was running fine from stock. IT was running great for about 3-4 days then started acting up before I formatted. I pray to God that it will keep going strong even after I start to overclock again though like before, I will only OC using CCC at the moment and will not touch any volts.
cantankerous : good to hear its ok at least on stock :-) i didnt had such luck with sapphire even if i reinstalled windows.
If I had those problems I wouldn't even reinstall windows. I'd just bring the card back and tell them to give me a new one. But at least its working for ya again, currently. Only time will tell and hopfully it will be good.
I'm hearing 5.10a 's are better at OCs than 5.11s...at least for XTs.

I would like to add to this and say I had no problems running the 2nd x1800xl I got with 5.11 cats from the ATI site on STOCK settings but when I overclocked the card it would be a bit inconsistant and sometimes lockup or crash back to windows. So I then cleared the 5.11 cats and loaded the drivers of the cd that came with the card(I never tried them before) and they turned out to be much more stable. I was able to run 650/750 without a single problem even with 3dmark05 looped a couple of times. This is on air but not stock cooler but a modified xeon cooler that works well. :D
dvothecc : yeh, but cd drivers sucks, first they dont add boost in games mentioned in 5.11, second ... gpu temperature is like 80C not in use. Well you can use different cooler, but still.. Damn unstable X1800XLs :-/
even after saying how stable my card was since the format 3dmark01 STILL crashes to desktop without a trace it was even running at all after a little awhile. The other 3dmarks seem to be ok looping but 01 always crashes to desktop. Damn annoying to say the least.
BTW all games seem to be ok however Fear VERY briefly and seldomly gets little black blotches that appear and dissapear on the screen. IT happens very quickly and isn't all the time so its damn hard to see what they are and what causes them.
I think im going to get an XT and sell this card off.
That really quick black squares right? I get that when I start from a cold boot and pump the voltage/clocks up asap, and boot into a game. I mean where talking a second if that showing on the screen then its gone never to be seen again. Strange, yet its still stable go figure.Quote:

Nice nearly identical core as mine, except this is mineQuote:

Yup, that is exactly what it is. Very fast little black squares that kinda scatter the screen and then are gone pretty much for good. Sometimes they very quickly come back periodically but it isn't like the whole screen is a mess with them all the time. So far it is only in FEAR. I beat Quake IV this morning without any graphical issues that I could notice and all 3 3dmarks plus aquamark runs without issues. Besides the little black squares in FEAR and 3dmark01 crashing to desktop the card seems to be ok again. No clue what was going on before. I am hoping perhaps a slight voltage increase (which I haven't done yet) will rectify the 3dmark01 desktop crashes and the little black flashing squares in FEAR as perhaps the card is slightly undervolting during use causing this. I'm not going to hold my breath on it working but its worth a shot.Quote:

If I can get 01 to stop crashing to desktop and those little black squares to never appear then by all means this card is a killer. I just dont understand how the more intensive 03 and 05 never crash to desktop but 01 does. 01 is more system dependant and my system hasnt changed squat in months with X800 never crashing but this card does. I have hopes that further CAT releases will bring us more goodies as well a proper program to utilize the overclocking and voltage such as ATItool, ATI Tray Tools and Rivatuner. If a bios modding utility comes out that lets you set clocks and volts at a bios flash level then we would all be set, would no longer have to worry about ramping volts and clocks up on every reboot and can stay constant at what we set it at.
I just don't use 01 anymore i've given up with it. As how I see it, its a system bench, and I got other programs to do system benches if I really want. Down with 01 :)
hehe yea I hear but it is still annoying why it crashes with this card and not my last. Makes me think something is up. I wonder if it is a driver thing. It is blatantly crashing with 5.11 though I dont remember what drivers I was using when it didnt crash, perhaps the omega 5.10a? When 5.12 comes out next month I will try again and see what happens.
BTW, does your 01 crash each and every time you run 01 before the end of a run? Mine runs for awhile but crashes after about an hour or so.
No mate, its from friends shop who selling pc components etc. :-)Quote:

Cantankerous : so you got same little black boxes that i shown before in FEAR? its certainly not happening with HIS now, so something is messed with your card also :(
