for those suspecting they may have a bad mem controller i'm currently waiting for an rma of my cpu. i tried everything everyone else here tried or suggested and no go with 2 sticks of 512mb bh-5. talked to a tech over at AMD and when i mentioned the errors i was getting in various areas of memtest he mentioned that test #8 can show possible issues with the memory controller if everything is fine with one stick and not 2. just a thought.

also, someone here said they are using the 6/28 beta bios and i was wondering where he got it? also does it have the 4v option in it? haven't found it at dfi-street yet and am going to try googling for it now>

Little updated on my 3400 Newark if anybody is interested. I threw it on my DFI LP nF3 board to see what it could do. I was able to get 240x11 (2640) at 1.4v without blinking an eye. That's the limit that my freakin' mobo will go though. SATA ports 3/4 (the locked ones) won't recognize my Raptors. I've RAMed to board twice, and it still doesn't work. :slapass: So until I get some $$$ to get a new board, I've gotta stick with the 240 max. :( This thing will definately go farther though, I'll update when the new board arrives... whichever it'll be (DFI again or MSI).

Haha, yeah... probably should. I was tired of having my computer down though. I'll see about throwing an IDE drive on there, and see how it does. :)

That's a good speed. I think I'll buy a 3400+ Newark soon, 3700+ is too much compared with 3400+.
SATA 3/4 are locked (those near AGP slot). Why don't you test the chip with a spare drive (IDE or SATA)?

EDIT: SATA 3/4 are locked (near AGP port) and SATA 1/2 aren't. I was in a hurry and I typed the otherway around...

actually, my sata 3+4 are the ones that are locked (between cpu and agp slot)

also.. newark 4000+. i'm about to poke about to try to find one :toast:

3trip thanks for updating us on the 3400 newark you have. 2640 @ 1.4v is amazing. keeps us updated once you get your serial atat lock issue out of the way.

Athlon 64 3200+ Newark 2.0 GHz 1MB Socket 754 Now
Athlon 64 3000+ Newark 1.8 GHz 1MB Socket 754 Now
... so where the heck are these procs ?

they aren't available right now due to amd having a crapload of older s754 mobile clawhammer 3000 and 3200 chips laying around. they are prob beign manufactured but held back until the claws run low in supply.

as to why they say available now? no idea. companies pull fake launches all of the time. the 4000 will come out on time (or close to release date) because it doesn't have an older claw chip that is a 62w mobile chip. this is the reason why we see the newark 3700 out right now but don't see the lower ones. (well except the newark 3400. i have no idea how that fits into my assumption above)

*the left over clawhammer core assumption is just an assumption (but i may add i think a very good reason for them to be holding back lower end newarks)

From what I have been told, the lower models are being held off by AMD. Only a few leaked out, about 50 of each I think. Why have they done this? Because there is still a ton of clawhammers left in the channel. When the Newarks first came out all of the models were available to me. 3700+, 3400+, 3200+, 3000+ Most of them got sold off within a week.

I can see Newark 4000+ now. hehe :toast:

EDIT: The 3400+ are coming from 1 place and I've been watching. Every place on the net that has 3400+ Newarks are drop shipping them from this place. I don't like them because they charge more. Around $12 extra when buying 1 or 2.

I am at 2952MHz right now. I'm sure there's a few MHz left at this voltage though. My cpu, (like my clawhammer) seems to be voltage-hungry. :P at you, eclipse!

edit: just reached 2976. (248htt). It was giving me the array crap, so I think that's the end of scaling at this voltage. But there's always the option of more voltage. YAY! :D

On the other hand, it seems pretty stable in windows. I
1) screwed around with the image in paint
2) am posting on the forum RIGHT NOW
3) playing farcry
4) passing prime95 (ok, just kidding)

I haven't tried going any further. MBM crashes at those speeds... and I refuse to use a computer without MBM on it. I'm also a firm disbeliver in suicides.

Edit: MBM just locks up my system at those speeds, it seems it's a bug with MBM itself, as I do not get BSOD, but the MBM locking up thing is consistent.

yeah, i've long ditched mbm for everest.. it included memory benches too, and a bunch of other useful stuff

or.. why not just use smartguardian? ;)

Why don't you use SpeedFan instead of MBM or SGuardian? It supports Win 64, and works like a charm with fan control.

IIRC, I had to remove it from the startup folder to stop it from poping up at boot....and with a little tweaking, it's not that ugly anymore :)
