Gigabyte k8NSNXP-939/K8NS Ultra-939 tips, tricks and guide thread

ok, dropped from 11 to 10 on the processor, and 1 to 1 on the ram and its running at 250 fsb.

maybe I can take the HT up to 4x?

so its at 2500 mhz.

How do I get clock gen to load these speeds at boot?

Tried 4x on the HTT... crashed
Tried 3x on the HTT at 250mhz.... Crashed after a little bit in windows.

So I am back to stock speeds.

What should I do here? Should I try finding the limits on different parts? maybe 2x htt, 100 divider on the ram, and low multiplyer on the processor and play around with it? I'm kinda at a loss right now.

Anyone? Should I RMA this ram?

is this the ballistix tracer ddr500 or 400? don't know cause you wrote pc400 ddr500.

what are your timing settings (a64tweaker ss pls)?
i made a bios patch module for set bypass max setting from 4x to 7x which is needed when trying to run high MHz on RAM. read preamble and max async latency are very important to. with ss of a64tweaker we know to help you further.

Can anyone recommend some good overclocking ram that is 2 x 1gig? I think I may send this $300 Crucial balistix pc4000 back.

Ok, I guess my ram just had to break in or something. I took out the OCZ booster, 240 fsb, 4x ht, 10x multiplyer. so that gives me 2400mhz. I scored 6638 in 3dmark.

Before that I ran top performance, 5xht, 11x multiplyer, and it gave me 2288mhz. I got 6655 in 3dmark.

WTF?!?!?! Is this because my Hyper Transport is only running at 900 where as at the stock settings (+8 with top performance) it was running at 1000~1040??? Does Hyper transport make that much of a difference that it would overshadow adding 40fsb to the ram and about 200mhz to the processor?

Update

So... I went back, enabled top performance, and got 6678. This was with me booting up, turning off aim, steam, anti virus, and a few other services. Before when I got 6655 I left all those things on.

overclocked w/ top performance on cpu score: 4941
overclocked w/ top performance off cpu score: 4437
stock settings w/ top performance on: 4416

Top performance seems to give me quite the leap.

Yeah, I think it has been touched upon.. but after reading it and taking notes, I'm not getting what I expected. Also, most people seem to be running 3000+ processors. I'm looking to see what I should do with my 3500+. AND, I guess my last post says what really is getting at me.... the fact that I'm overclocked, with everything higher than stock, except for the HT and somehow i'm getting the same scores. :/

your system is made up of many components, all of them need to work together to get sweet clockage.

so, what works for others may not work for you, it is just a guide to get you started. i have built systems that had the same exact components, but completely different personalities.

it is just the way things are.

I did... and I know its out ass.
My question mark was because the file is named k8nn939 and not k8nsnxp939.

Anyone know how to disable cool'n'quiet on the board? I just realized its running and I cant figure out how to get rid of it. This may be whats messing up my overclocking ability.

How high htt/fsb can i run this mobo when using nforce sata-controller? I mean how high htt/fsb can my disks deal with when on that unlocked controller..

both SATA controllers on this board are locked. so the use of them do not hinder the OC potencial.

Hmm.. Sure about that ? What I've heard is that only SiI3512 -controller is locked.

I think only sil sata ports are locked, and nf3 chipset ports are not..

it's in this thread. NF3 chipset has 4 sata controllers of which 2 are locked and 2 unlocked. this board has the two locked ones from NF3 and 2 provided by sil controller!

i have my SATA drive attached to the nf3 sata ports and i can go as high as 357HTT on my board without problems (didn't try any higher as i don't need to)

Have used sil sata raid all the time, and havent test nf3 ports at all..

Ok, so my crucial balistix was bunk... the :banana::banana::banana::banana: crapped out so now I am running pc3200 patriot 2 3 2 5 ram at 250fsb 3-4-4-8. 2.8v, 1.6v on the processor @ 10x and 4x ht.

:) :) :) :) :) :)

Gotta play around with this and make sure it doesnt crash.
Oh, it also does this all by bios.

Update... blew up.
May have to throw in my ocz booster and add a little voltage to this ram. :-)

Hmmm.....how did you push 2.8V to the ram? I thought it was peaked at 2.7v(2.5 + .2)?

When I do +.2 in the bios speedfan reads 2.83v.
I've also attached the ocz booster and pumped it up to around 3v.

I'm currently running stock again because I had some BSOD restarts, so I may try to just pump the ram up to 250 with loose timmings and keep the processor and htt running at stock speeds. I dont really think my newcastle 3500+ likes overclocking very much. :/

Newcastle 3500+'s didn't push to far, my old one took 1.6v just to hit 2.5 with this board, so don't feel bad.

My 3700+ on the otherhand loves this board!

anyone run an opty on this board? i just bought the k8nsc and a opty 146, but the BIOS dosent recognize the chip correctly. also how does it overclock with this chip? please help !!
