gabbax what does it say on your chip?
Dont know...

Which one would you take?? ;)
3400+ (CAAOC 0352, brown):
K8N Pro
KHX3200 256MB
1.85V Vcore
chilled water (cooler base above zero):
SuperPi 8M:
2689MHz - 5min 57sec
3000+ (CAATC 0403, green)
K8N Pro
KHX3200 256MB
1.85V Vcore
chilled water (cooler base above zero):
SuperPi 8M:
2709MHz - 5min 57sec
SuperPi 1M:
2764MHz

Coming up next: 3000 + cascade
I'd have the 3400 and the extra cache ...Quote:

Being old I remember the days when AMD64's did 2300 out of the box or on water .. now it is 2600 .. CAATC now eh
CAAKC -> CAAMC -> CAAOC - > CAATC ( 2004 vintage )
What's happened to CAA P Q R S C ?
Prescott looks doomed at this rate, AMD have added 300Mhz in 4 months which is 15%, prescott looks dodgy at 3.7Ghz max.
Regards
Andy
PS Good luck macci, i am sure you think you can get more speed out of the 3000 to offset the lack of cache ... 3.2Ghz+ ?????
Regards
Andy
Thanks :)
I'll give it a shot tomorrow w/ cascade. It will do over 3G - the question is how much over 3G :D
As far as SuperPi 8M goes the 3000 needs only 20-30MHz extra to match the 1MB L2 cache chip. And it seems to overclock some 50-60MHz higher than the 3400+ :)
Macci, I'd take the 3400+, sell it and buy two 3000+ and see if they go higher. :D
macci i think on 3dmark the extra cache makes more diferençe than on superpi,
and maybe the extra multiplier of 3.4+ will help on 1:1 runs
Ricky, thats quite possible. I'll test 3dmark once I'm done with SuperPi :D
5m 54sec now for SPI8M watercooled.
Just wondering, anyone notice a difference between the 3400+ retail and OEM chip's oc wise??...and if so what...also what are most people running retail chips?
As far as i know the oem and the retail are the same exact chip. The retail just is in a box and come with a heat sink. Where the owm gets sold in a little plastic "case" and thats it. If you ask me i would feel better geting a box. I dont like the feeling of walkign out of the store with an inch by inch square of silicon that i just paid close to 400 dollars for.
Also, the boxed version comes with a 3 year warrenty, where the tray got 1 year, not that i'll keep it that long..
The boxed cooler is quite nice with a full copper base.
It's up to you wheter it's worth it.
I think they oc the same since they're exactly the same chips.
Got 2536MHz PiFast stable out of mine with the boxed cooler and 1.7V
Only thing i changed was the fan.
3400 + cascade
SuperPi 8M:

3000+ is going in next :D
can you do Super 1M :) pls :p thats an awesome speed you gained.
Wow macci, how about some 3d mark benches with that 3400+ at those speeds?
I fear 31K! :slobber:
Even if the 3000+ can match the speed of that 3400+, the 3400+ will benefit from the extra cache and be better.
EmineM, yup SPi 1M runs at 3116MHz - 28sec.
macci can you refresh my memory on what motherboard you're using?
Gigabyte K8N Pro
The 3000+ is still kicking 3400s butt :D
http://www.akiba-pc.com/e107_images/...pi8m_5m19s.gif
Very nice macci, but what about the 512kb extra cache the 3400+ is wearing, don't you think that will make a big difference in 3d mark 2k1?
I know SuperPi likes bandwidth, so the 5Mhz more HTT (FSB)
on the 3000+ might have made the difference?
Anyways, 2 superchips for 1 super overclocker! :toast:
sami, which voltage?Quote:

thanks ;)
Alex, its at 2.04V. the board acts funny if I put more Vcore. The chip would love it thou. Need to fix that :D
Looks like my guess was a little low, and limited by the board it seems. :TOAST:
Nice work as always, looking forward to see which is best in 3dmark. Do you think you will lose many Mhz doing 3dmark ? If not then a few rough calculations say over 31k as mentioned above.
I'm playing around with my new replacment AMD tonight (CAAAC week 45 ) to see if it can better my older CAAMC which blew up. It has to beat 3400Mhz but it is not looking too good yet.
Nether the less , at stock with 5800 it is as fast as my P4 at 3600 5:4 2-5-2-2.
Thanks heavens for high IPC :)

Andy
3200+ CAAOC DryIce cooled...
1.92v. not bad...:)
