thanks bench, i'll take your word for it and switch it to +40mv.

Yeah I did that and still it would not reboot. It goes through everything saying Windows is loading and then when the Window logo comes on with the sound it reboots again, believe me I tried everything. I decided today to try out the eVGA 790i mobo now. Since I already have 2 9800GTX cards. If I had the 9800GX2 I would have went to a x38 board.
And I never had a problems OCing a Q6600 on the S2E only the QX9650!!
I think I just bricked my S2E. I flashed to 0702 using awdflash and hit F1 after the flashing was done and then I did a stupid thing. I hit the "CLR CMOS" button while it was going through the POST process. I always CLR CMOS after a BIOS flash. Now the board is stuck @ "CODE INIT". I took the battery out and will keep the battery out and hope when I pop the battery in tomorrow, it magically comes back to life, like the old strikers did with the dreaded "CPU INIT" bug. If not, I guess I would have to go through Asus for RMA. Anybody here familiar with the RMA process with Asus. Thanks in advance.
Thanks Nuclearjock USB drive work great with those programs :up: Bios 702 in nice so far.....
Ok I was using 701 & 702, they don't work for my setup at all.
What I notice when I update bios is flickering on the main bios screen.
2nd is bios loads slower then 601 on boot up.
3rd Asus just released 602 & it's not listed as beta on there website.
I just installed 602 & I don't have the flicker problem in bios main screen.
So far it runs great, nothing like 701 or 702...
The only issue I have with 0701 is the flickering in the Extreme Tweaker menu.
With 0702 I don't have any real problem at the moment ( except the usual bad 6-5-5 and 7-6-5 clocking ).
BIOS 0702 has allowed me to overclock for the first time with OCZ 2x2GB EB 1600mhz
I've got the X3350 CPU stock cooling
7-7-7-28 @ 1610 linked and synced (1600 = BSOD)
P1 & P2 enabled
Only voltages I have modified are
RAM 1.9v
NB 1.46
SB 1.5
the rest is on auto
Very happy that I was able to do this without corrupting the raid. I'll shoot for more when I get a water loop in there this weekend. Not sure the ram could go any higher but I'll try.
Also I have been getting some weird sound crackling when I log in from the user menu...dunno if this has something to do with overclock..maybe the X-FI doesn't like it.
Ok kool, so 701 & 702 has some bugs, but for me it causes lockups playing cod 4. I tested it over & over 701 & 702.
But 601 or 602 works 100% for me anyways.
All I can say to people is use what works best for you're setup.
Difference with 601 & 602
Bios 601 Cpu VTT is incorrect. (This will cause system not to boot)
Bios 602 Cpu VTT is Fixed.
What do you mean ?
That the BIOS sets the wrong default VTT voltage for the CPU ? ( example: the default VTT for 65nm CPUs is 1.2V, and for the 45nm 1.1V ) [ wrong here could be "BIOS Sets VTT to 1.2V for 45nm CPU at Auto setting ]
Or you're saying that the BIOS applies another VTT voltage ignoring your selection ?
If yes on the second part, how did you verify that ? By software reading or multimeter ?
Ohhh let me explain it better, not sure if it happens a stock.
What happens for me is I need 1.34v Cpu VTT overclocked on bios 601, but it sets it incorrect in bios, I need to set 1.42v Cpu VTT to get 1.34v.
In bios 602 if I set 1.34v Cpu VTT I get real 1.34v Cpu VTT.
Using Everest Software...
Ah, ok.
Gonna check it out ( with a multimeter ) when dealing with the board's review ( and to update the BIOSes bug list )
I am testing bios 0701 & 0702, with several fsb 1600 1633 1650 1666 1700 1733 1750 1800 1811 1820
vcore 1.325 -> 1.362
vtt 1.28 -> 1.36
cpu multi: x9 or x8
ram: 8-7-6-21 2T
vdimm: 1.9 -> 2.0
nb: 1.36 -> 1.5
sb: 1.55 -> 1.6
vtlgref0-3: 0 -> -50mV
I test with both win XP 32 and vista x64. Most the time I can get prime+memtest stable if I put the right volts, and I have no lockups/freeze.
But here is my issue: I will always end up getting CRC errors when I install games from an iso sitting on my hdd (especially assassin'creed) or when using quickpar or winrar to check large archive files.
Am I the only one? What can it be?? unstable fsb, ram timing, gtlvref, I tried everything oh god...
Do you guys really stress your rig by testing CRC before claiming stability?
Guys one question real quick
Do you use prime 25.5 or 25.6?
I heard some people using 25.5 but I dont know why...
slim142 - I'm using build 25.6, seems to be much better for testing quad-cores. This is especially important when tuning GTL's because each thread in the Prime95 test corrisponds to the same actual core on the processor. That way it can be helpful in figuring out just what core is having issues.
BenchZowner - You mentioned a review in your above thread, are you putting together a review for here or BenchZone?
Just like webwilli, I am now selling my s2e and bought in place a p5e3 premium.
Absolutely no regret. X48 ftw.
What a strange feeling to set fsb450/mem900 and boot straight away, prime, install stuff, play games and no problem at all.
I got so used to wait for the corruption or CRC or bsod or lockup to occur, and now it's over ! What a relief.
All my hardware kept the same, I just switched the s2e for the p5e3 premium. So it was really this crappy board.
PS: 0701 & 0702 were worse for me than 0601 in terms of stability/corruption.
Bios 0703 fixxed the slow Menu in the bios

at this rate we'll be at 1001 by Monday morning!
But I just want a 450Mhz FSB OC, it doesnt matter if 1 more BIOS or 10 more!
is there some trick how OC the Kensfields on S2Ex? I cannot to break 350MHz FSB ...
