L12 mod

I have a Mobile 2500+ Barton and an NF7-S 2.0 board. With my 1700+ the L 12 mod (166 fsb from 133) worked connecting AH 28 to AH 30. But with my Mobile these mod doesnt work. I dont gain no mhz, but on the 1700+ it helped. So do I need to do the 200 mhz mod?

The L12 appears to work quite nicely on the NF7-S v2 + 2600+ XP-M

This is the ah 28 to ah 30 method? Before I have cleared the bios, first time it booted fine at 230 fsb (that was stable on 1700+), but after not finishing loading windows it didnt boot. I got a message at boot "I/O CHANNEL CHECK - CHECKING FOR SEGMENT,... Now I will trie to do the L12 mod again.

Does anybody now what that message means?

Hmm when i retried the L12 mod on the first boot I could only select user define setting, but after some boots I can select 3200+ Wtf is happening?? After the mod Ive cleared the cmos,... Maybe I need to flash the bios again? And why doesnt the 11x multi work? When I set to 11x and reboot it goes to 6x!!??

Now I have the d22 alpha r2 bios and the 11x multi works fine. :banana: :banana: :banana: :banana:ing 16 biios doesnt like the 11x multi. Now im prime stable at 228 fsb like I was with 1700+ and L12 mod ;)).

I just tried to use the cpu pin method to get 200fsb, but that failed. I am now going to use the true L12 mod to get 200fsb default. Join 1 and 3 of L12 to get 200fsb. I have stuck some sinks of my twinmos Bh-5 and fed it with 2.98v but it still won't play it runs prime but crashes other apps running at same time. I played ut2k4, so you can see it is ever so slightly unstable.

Its got to be either the board or the RAM. I sold a perfectly good epox 8rda+ that did 200fsb so I really not happy running at 200fsb for complete stability. The vdimm mod looks too daunting to me I can barely see the surface mount resistor. I'd like to get a infinity but I hear of a lot of problems with them too.

Which method did you use on your mobile? I want to perform it on my 2500+ Hell-fire volt moded and got to post at 260 and in windows at 253 with his destop chip, my mobile won't go beyond 225 stable:(

AFAIK there are two bit or digits giving a total possible different combinations of 4, and therefore there is not two ways to get to 200fsb default only "

isn't that what that guide says at geocities? to force 200 on 133FSB cpu - 2 wires but to force 200 on Mobile - one wire???

it looks like some people did that mod ( charlie used on wire ) and it worked... so which is correct then?

EDIT:Oh, i got it... :doh: basically, the only difference between 133FSB Mobile Barton and 200FSB Desktop Barton is 3rd L12... Desktop has it closed so same needs to be done to 133FSB Barton in order to be 200FSB...
in other words there's only one way for 133FSB Mobile - 200FSB! 166FSB can't be achieved unless one actually cuts #0 L12 and close 3rd L12...

ok, thanx.... so "ah30 to ah28" is the answer... case closed :)

i just got it all figured out with that L12 mod and Mobiles :D
weird... are you sure that u actually have mobile Barton and not unlocked desktop? look at the L12 bridges... if nothing is cut there, then it's desktop. if everything else is correct and after "ah30 to ah28" it defaults to 166FSB then it's like closing already closed bridge (assuming it's desktop)...

funny thing.
when i first installed both pinmods, i farked up and nothing happened. later on i corrected the wirebracket that didn't make contact and bazoong i got fsb200. hm my temps seemed to have increased a good deal doing this (couple degrees) so i decided to try the default fsb166 thing and remove one wirebracket. so with this supposedly fsb166 set as default, i reassembled the rest and fired it up - still fsb200 wtf? so well i only needed to do the pinmod that went parallel to the socket borders (the one that should give you fsb166, dunno what pins). the diagonal connection (that was supposed to make 166->200) was left out, but still fsb200. whatever. my cpu is a axda1700dlt3c jiuhb 0308xpmw and it works with max bios settings and no other hardware mods up to 238 fsb via bios. before it was 221 max. got sandra to run at 240, but that's about it with only 3.06v on the ram (set to 2.9v in bios, abit overvolting)...

i'm thinking about using a dipswitch to enable this mod via the solderpoints on the back of the board - did anyone try that? should work the same "shortening" the same pins as inside the socket, eh?

My 2400 mobile maxed out at 230fsb (max stable that is) in my abit with NO L12 mod. after the mod still 230fsb. The same chip without the mod went 250fsb in my DFI. I think it may be because the mobiles are bartons that the factory changes to default at 133fsb. On the flipside all my 1700's have benifited from the mod. A side note as far as the 8bit mod goes with the mobile's the 5th L3 bridge is already closed. I wonder how long before amd locks the mobiles?

probably never - wouldn't make sense. or they better find another solution to lower the wattage. maybe disabling parts of the processor at runtime

Mobile cpus are for mobiles which dynamically change the multiplier for various processor loads to conserve the battery. With this in mind it would be difficult to lock the multiplier for AMD.

Is it possible to use a pencil to connect the 3rd L12 bridge on the top of the cpu, or would the pencil line have resistance. Conductive ink is expensive :(

Well, I just tried the mod with a little piece of wire and it doesnt look like it worked, I still cant get above 231FSB with my 1700+. I'm going to go and buy some conductive ink and try again. Im writing this just after doing the mod, Is it ok to leave the wire on even if its not working until I fix it?

I did the mod a second time using a wire in the socket instead of on the cpu, and now I can boot at 250FSB dual channel!!1

yea same for me, not quite as high. btw, did you both wires in the socket? for some strange reason mine runs 200 with only the 166 mod in place (?) - doesn't matter to me, as i'm fine with it, lol.

does the DFI infinity have any liking toward 166 over 133? for my mobile 2500

no, the DFI boards seem to not need the L12 mod. u can try it.. but chances are you'll get the same results (high fsb).
