Hi iandh, im planning to buy a PC-A05N but my guess is seeing your picture that a 5870X2 wont fit.
What do you think guys?

yeah they didnt hide anything or say it cant be photographed
they opened the case up so i can take better shots
if i wasnt allowed to i wouldnt post it of course
3x of these wow
which OS are you going to use? i thought vista/7 doesnt like more than 4xGPU cores
@Dinos, any word on shared memory pool?
Or can we expect the same card as the HD4870X2 but then with (obviously) RV870 cores instead of RV770? Or are there some extra tweaks this round? :D
no monitor can handle that kindda of powaaaa :) I hope to do some pre crossfire tests tonite on the REX II with the normal 5870's
to be honest i wasnt aware of that
to tell the truth i was so stunned by what i saw on a rig right next to it that i totally ignore than 5870X2 rig
what did i see
a single 5870 running 6xLCDs playing some car game whatever the name with a 5xxx by 2xxx resolution with highest graphics settings possible running smoothly with an occasional slight slowdown when it gets real dusty in the game and to top it all of it was running on default clocks on some AMD CPU as well heheh
yeah thats right
5xxx by 2xxx resolution with highest graphics settings possible running smoothly
i dont know about you guys but that is the most awesome thing i have ever experienced when it comes to technology i :banana::banana::banana: you not!
Lucky bastard  :D
That game was DiRT2 and I'm getting one thanks to AMD bundle for HD5870!
The next step is to get 2 more monitors so I can play on 3 screens (at least initially) :p:
PS. Bingo13: how come? 3xHD58x0X2 in one system? I'm guessing the motherboard was based on RD890FX or something similar .... :)
PS.2 After second though I think you're hinting about Hydra ....
mate this card is a monster
these resolutions and level of detail on some default AMD system
imagine the same rig with a nehalem on water running 4.4GHz with a couple of these in Xfire
scary :banana::banana::banana::banana: :up:
Man I cant wait for that monster to get out , and can you run eyefinity on 3 monitors even if it doesn't have the 6 dvi plugs , or we have to wait for the 6 version ?

I've been having lots of driver issues with 5870 CF. The performance randomly drops a lot to about 19k in 3d06 once a day (in single card OR CF mode) due to an unknown reason and the only way to get it back is to reinstall the drivers. I am starting to get angry.
The microstutter in far cry 2 is HORRIBLE as well. Unless FPS is 90+ (which it thankfully is most of the times on maxed settings 19*12) it is annoying to play the game. I can switch off CF and play single card just fine but then I have to turn settings way down.
I am in between phase change units right now so my CPU speed blows (4ghz qx9650). I am actually quite CPU limited here and there in farcry 2. Can't wait to get my new unit and clock it back up properly.
At this point in time with the current crappy drivers, I would not recommend CF even if you got lots of money.
I'm sad to hear this about FC2. It sucks with my 4870x2 as well ( same issue you speak of). I was hoping that would be fixed with the 5 series but I guess not, CF is still CF :( It is so hard to use a sniper. On the single card configs I tested, things were fine...
Too bad to hear about the driver problems as well. I will say I learned the hard way jumping on the 4870x2 as soon as I did so I am waiting before a decent level of driver maturity before touching multi gpu again ( be it 5870s or GT300s )
Should have my 5870 within the hour so can't wait to try FC2 again with it and my new machine.
price and release date of 5870 Eyefinity 6?

HD5700 will be with 1120 stream processors and 56 texture units TMU, the memory is GDDR5. Far as we know there will be HD5770 (199 dollars) and HD5750 (149 U.S. Dollar), HD5770 will replace the current HD4890, the HD5750 is to replace the HD4870. HD5700 opponent is to the NVIDIA GTX275, GTX260, GTS250 and the future D10P GT200b series. Others like DX11, ATI Steam, UVD2, Eyefinity, CrossFire technologies are also readily available.
I've just had the card for shy of an hour now and will give my impressions so far.
It has replaced a 4870x2 ( it is being rmad finally )
One of the things I took issue on with the 4870x2 was noise. So far the 5870 is much much quieter. Running Crysis Warhead and Vantage on Extreme the X2 would get quite loud ( or playing some games without vsync - eg L4D ) The 5870 is barely discernible over the rest of the machine ( there is a very subtle whine which appears to be coming from the fan - its not electrical whine by the way - something which my X2 suffered from )
One of the main issues i had with the X2 (other than the big problem that it blue screened on boot 75% of the time for the last 6 months... ) is when scaling 4:3 resolutions, there would be severe distortion ( this is prevalent in the 3Dmark cpu tests but also in old games that don't support 16:10 ; half of the image would be fine but the other half was warping back and forth really fast like it was having a seizure ) I thought it was an issue with my LCD but the 5870 is scaling 4:3 with fixed aspect ratio just peachy.
As far as performance I've yet to test anything outside of Crysis and Vantage but I will note that the games input seemed smoother than the X2 even though the frame rates seem roughly the same.
For reference with Vantage the X2 scored X7611 (7393 gpu / 17300 cpu ) where as the 5870 scored X8273 ( 8050 gpu / 17406 cpu ) all the while using half the power and being much quieter.
I still have a lot of testing to do ( and gaming  ) but I will follow up with my results later on ( as well as overclocking soon enough ) If anyone has any requests / questions, feel free to ask and I'll do my best.
EDIT : After playing L4D, I must say the game felt noticeably nicer with the 5870. I also had adaptive MSAA enabled which I didn't on the 4870x2 and it still had fewer drops and hitches. Pretty impressed so far.
The one shown is one of the lower binned cards w/ 960SPs.
The highend with 1120SPs has a RV740 lookalike cooler.
EDIT- Some are now talking about 1120SPs for the highend and 960/800SP for the 5750 and maybe a lowend with 720SP(though that doesn't sound right).
Also fitting 14SIMDs and a 128bit bus in 181mm2 leaves people thinking there is more in Cypress than what AMD/ATi has been letting us believe.
Should I replace my 4850 with a 5 Series. Should I do a card with a water block. I have water on my CPU but not my video card.
Looking for Silence
Anyone know if ATI Stream is now working in x64? I cannot seem to find any updates on this and it's one thing I like about Nvidia cards and Badaboom.
I'd like to share mine :) two of them crammed into a lian li pc-A03 :)

Any one knows if you can run eye finity with these or you have to wait for the Six version ? I hope they make the 5870x2 Six , that is if you cant run 3 monitors on a non 6 card .
I wonder the price for the 6 version .
My guess is 50-60o more MSRP in 2GB only configs for the six.
Mmm the question is can the other non 6 cards run 3 monitors with eye finity thats the question O_O . And that would be good if its just 50 or 60 more , assuming that is .
has anyone mentioned when 2gig 5850/70 might arrive. havent heard anything yet
Hi everybody, I registered to the forum today :)
I have 5870 and when I play games like GRID and Colin Mcrae Dirt the computer often crash. When I run 3dmark and ATITool to see if it is stable, it doesnt crash or anything. But as long as grid and dirt runs it works perfect, no artifacts or low fps or anything. Do anybody have the same problems as me? This happen both when I have stock(800/1200) and oc'ed(1015/1200, 1.25v)
I have Antec Quattro truepower 850w which worked perfect with 4870x2+4870 but I changed to 1x5870 due to issues with multi-gpu, heat and dx11
Could it be driver issues since it is only beta?
win7 x64 fresh install
tested both cat9.10rc6 and rc7

Hello,
Do you thinks that one 5870 can handle 3 full HD screen correctly ?
Thanks
Thanks for your answer,
DVI works also ? And an i hope it will be powerful enough to play to the latest games ?
The Hardocp guys did a video review on Eyefinity. They didn't seem to have problem with the performance of using one 5870 and gaming on 3 monitors.
Awesome,
Thanks for the link ,
i thinks i just have to wait for the triple DVI connection to work , then i will go for 2 more 26"
:)

ATI power play Working
GPU Cores Working
Temps Working
Voltages Working
Limits Removed
MSi tool fully working without the need for AMD GPU TOOL crap.
:)
did you do anything special? care to share a little more :P
It's possible to use the MSI tool for non MSI 58xx cards ?
Does the tool accept voltage changes for other cards than MSI ?
I'm sure in time with more mature drives most of the issues we are seeing now will be resolved. I for one would like to have three DVI connections than use DP...at least for now.
Did someone was able to make it run with a active adapter, because in the upper review, the blue screen make me doubt...
Maybe i will go for a cross fire but i will have to upgrade my power supply :(
Yes, here - LINK
$549 would be a good deal but given the lack of competition, they could very well ask ( and get ) $599. I know their presentation slides put hemlock at < $500 but in light of the current market that sounds irresponsible of them.Again this makes me question its performance. I would believe $500 if it isn't 2 fully clocked / functional R870 gpus.
$499 for 5870x2 at launch would be a great price, and in case, it would affect the 5850 and 5870 prices too, for sure.
I have seen a Sapphire 5870 on sale with 10% discount on my local e-tailer in Norway earlier today, and was surprised that they had a discount so early. I was about to hit on it, but had planned to wait for price and performance of 5872x2 first. It was a good price and very tempting, but now I'm happy that i didn't hit on it. The pleasure would be too short. They had 35 in stock, and when i went back after 20 min. all was gone.
Think I'll be grabbing a 5870 2 GB for christmas (people give me money, but rarely more than £50 total), and of course selling my 4870's.
God my power consumption will reduce sooo much lol.
Waiting for the price to come down which it usually does. Around £225 will be fine if I can sell both 4870s for £75.
Anyone else think that Ati might have initially deperfomanced the 5 series at launch on purpose to seemingly show lower performance numbers. Then after a month or two there will be some new driver that increases the performance 20-30% across the board. Maybe they did this to fool nvidia into thinking the cards are slower, and then bam gt300 killers in desquiese. I wouldnt be surprised, these things should be performing way faster considering no crossfire overhead. Or these drivers are very badly unoptimised.
when overclocking with msi afterburner I am unable to set my clocks past 900 core and 1300 memory and when I do try to apply the clocks the slider just drops back down to the 900 and 1300 limit... any ideas?
Yeah, that's a very popular theory, although I don't think they would sabatoge performance on puprose. Chances are drivers just need more work, and we'll see if there are any new better performing drivers when 5770 launches, and then afterwards when GT300 does.
I think they kept voltages extremely conservative and also implemented alot energy saving optimizations as to why these are underperforming. It looks very good on paper to have such a efficient gpu. As soon as nvidia releases the gt300 Ill bet ati releases a 5890 with voltages cranked to get 1000mhz on the core. Most 5870's right now easilty hit the 1gig mark with voltage tweaks, and lets not forget these are just the first reference wave of cards. Just wait till they release 3rd party custom cards. I can see 950~1000mhz clocked cards easily coming out around christmas. Ill also bet there will be some new amazing driver around the same time, just in time for all the second batches of reviews. This is when we will really see the 5 series start to shine. Thats the nature of computer hardware, they always get your tounge wet with new hardware thaat you buy right away, then a few months later they make a better one that you have to have and buy that too. Just ask my wife she will tell you all about it. How many i7 920's have you bought trying to get that golden DO.:yepp:
1ghz is minimum.
Its just for the marketing, here is the 1ghz videocard for you, own it today and rock the world of games.
That is what I would suggest to ati to make it 1ghz+, as that is such a selling argument, why buy 700mhz cpu when u can get a 1ghz??
Numbers are magical for some ;)
edit: heh the world is started to sync up to my mind

I can game for hours in Windows 7 x64 (CoD4, NFS:Shift, HL2, etc) on my Sapphire HD 5870 without issues. No FPS drops, no artifacting, no crashes. However, I get VPU recoveries and occasionally screen blackouts and freezes when doing simple things such as viewing flash players online (Youtube, etc) or watching videos with media players (MPC, MPC HC). I've tried the drivers that came with the card, the drivers on ATI's website, and even MSI's supposed RC8 release. Anybody else having stability issues in Windows 7 x64? I'm wondering if it's just a driver issue or if there's a hardware issue at play here. Also, I forgot to mention that I have locked the PCI-E at 100Mhz.
Thanks for your input.
I hope the drivers are just badly optimised, I had serious performance issues all over the place when pretesting with multi cards... something is not 100% (if they did it on purpose I don't think so)
Well, if there are actual issues with the card (or multi-gpu setups) I wouldn't expect that to be planned, but I could see them implementing a driver tweak to force the card to only utilize x% of it's potential and then in a later driver release at a more..."opportune" time release a driver that unlocks it to 100% performance in order to give the competition a false initial benchmark to compete against.
Running nice here at 1000/1350... If you have the asus oc doctor installed it uses a driver that causes driver resets (a lot). So if you have that uninstall it.
Other than that win7 x64 is a beauty with this card. Granted a slight soft vmod is essential for good clocks. For 1000/1350 I run 1.24v... Temps are pretty great too, the stock cooler is THAT GOOD (my god have you heard the fan on high -- pushes out more air than my deltas)...
What are your temps like? I noticed the stock fan settings are pretty weak.
Temps are fine. It doesn't seem to be a heat/load issue when crashing otherwise I don't think I'd be able to game without any problems. I'm thinking I must have a combination of drivers/programs that don't like each other and I just need to figure out which one(s) causing the problem :(
Also my card does it whether it's overclocked or not, and as of right now the voltage and clocks are both at default with no OCing software installed... until I figure out what the issue is.
Thanks for your reply!
Just joined the club, sweet card, but definitely needs driver work. That should come though, ATI has always delivered in that area, well drivers that is, maybe not always good, but at least they tried.
Looking forward to the 5870x2 :)
Guys, sorry for the lame question, does eyefinity support monitors of different resolution ? I need to couple a 22“with a 24“. I am not planing on gaming on these, they are just for work
did the new drivers help cross fire results???
Guys anyone has tried the newer drivers from amd website dated 10/13/2009? Did anyone of you notest any difference? its only for series 5000 graphics
You will only loose the upper and maybe the middle hard drive bays with a little modding. But if you got the cash for an 5870x2 then you can get an ssd and put it somewhere else.
has voltage control and much higher over clocking setting in ccc and afterburner.
3K of GPU score? How did ya? Perhaps i'm limited my CPU, don't know.
My GPU score difference is:
before with 1st release recomended AMD drivers:
GPU SCORE = 15918
Now Lastest recomended drivers dated 10/13/2009
GPU SCORE = 16028.
My system is:
Asus M4A79 Deluxe
AMD PHENOM II 940 @ 3.6
GSkill TT @ 1066
XFX 5870 @ completely stock
My results are almost exactly the same....~16,000 (3D Vantage-performance settings)....same score from several reviewers (w/ i7) of the 5870, so I think this score is normal, and not cpu limited for a gpu @ stock. And the so called new driver did not jump Vantage by 3K, as indicated above.
.
Thanks mate, i was thinking to me that 3k was to big to be true, but thanks for your confirmation!
My score also jumped by 3k atleast. For some reason i was only getting GPU score of 12000 but the new drivers sorted that out.
Can anyone VERIFY this?
5770 voltmod
According to this:http://www.st.com/stonline/products/...341/l6788a.pdf
and http://img131.imageshack.us/img131/6659/vregsmall.jpg
and assuming that pins count from the arrow right?
This is only if someone, after support for this chip exists, still needs more than 1,35 volts, this chip can output!
The pin on the yellow circle would be the FB pin,the one to solder a resistor or to find a connected resistor with RIGHT guys? Not absolutely sure!Anyone brave enough to try this out?
EDIT:After reading more carefully the pins description,i got confused with the the pins 19-and 20.Anyone can help???
Is there somebody know how to unlock the limit clock of 5770 ??
This is msi 5770 Bios.
MSI 5770(Juniper).bin
Is there anyone can help me unlock it?
Thank you very much.
Can some please post or PM me the BIOS for a Sapphire 5870, I need some backup ones, GPU-z wouldnt let me save them before I flashed my card to the Asus BIOS, give me a hand, please :)
Where on earth do I find a decent trifire driver for these cards ? seems 8.14.10.700 is the only sort of decent version working, yet I can't find it anywhere ...
Go to http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/5...24.090914.html
that's my BIOS :)
If anyone wants so read my test of HD 5850 and HD 5870 (CF combination, games, 3dmark,...) you can find it here: http://www.oc-lab.si/test.php?t=110
It is in Slovenian language, but pictures and numbers are universal anyway:D
