Has anyone found a utility that will allow you to up the fan speed in vista of the fans attached to the xbx2 headers? I used IDCC in XP to manually increase the header fan speeds for me but IDCC doesn't work in vista! My cpu runs a good 8-10C hotter in vista than it does in XP according to TAT and the ability to up my header fan speeds will shave off a good 2-3C for me like it does in XP. Any info would be really appreciated.
Vista has the audio drivers included. Loading the Intel ones causes the conflict.Quote:

I am using the Tuniq Tower, OCZ PC2-5400 at 1.92 Volts. CPU Stock Voltage. C1E, EIST and Watchdog is OFF.
Keep us posted, please.
I just tried the speedfan beta and it doesnt do anything to my fan speed. I changed it to 100% but they never increased like they do in idcc. I dont think it works right yet.
I need more volts to get windows up and stable, 3.6GHz prime stable is about 1.44v idle/1.4v load, maybe a tad more (but it's just too hot to let it run long term that way on air). I already posted at 4.1 GHz when I first put the chip in the Asus board because I had never reset the BIOS on it and had no intention of taking out the 6600 that was in it and overclocked. Volts then were at like 1.6 and fsb at 401, though temps were 70*C idle haha. BUT, I think this chip would fly under phase. With my tuniq I would keep it at 3.2 GHZ since I can do 3.2 GHz prime stable at 1.3v idle/1.26v load.Quote:

I just got my D975XBX2, and i do have some problems with the Multiplier-lowering to 6...
I have disabled C1E in configuration-Mode, i have not overclocked the CPU, i disabled VT and EIST and still the CPU lowers the multiplier when in idle mode.
How can i force the Board to disable ALL powersaving stuff?
Its pretty annoying because it can cause framerate drops when gaming.
RMclock works. just set it up so that it loads at start up and it'll disable EIST.Quote:

That's because most people are using cpu-z and it wasn't reporting correctly until version 1.89 which just came out. It was reporting the max multiplier, not the current multipler.Quote:

I too wish there was a way in the BIOS to set the fan speeds to 100%. IDCC is the only way I have found to do it but it won't work in vista. Fanspeed does nothing for me in vista. I set the speeds to 100% but the fans don't do anything. I would love a way to control the fanspeeds whether it be through the BIOS or in vista...
No I don't work for Intel. I just happen to have some spare time to pursue the issue.Quote:

IDCC should work on Vista-32 if you run the installer in xp compatability mode, then set compatability mode on the executable after it's installed.Quote:

Hm, that also doesnt work for me.
Ive Installed the IDCC on Windows 2003 (IA32) - crashes when i try to run it.
Ive read about the XP-compatability mode, doesnt work either.
Im kinda pissed off, everyone said the Intel-Boards were so super-great and now nothing works - no IDCC, cant disable C1E - the Fanspeed-Control is not able to set the RPM to 50% or less (which my old Asus P5AD2E could do) and the Sigmatel-Audio stutters in Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter.
Intel TAT installs but when i try to run it it just wont do anything at all.
By the way, is it right to assume that the D975XBX2 is inofficially capable of FSB 1333?
Since it does have the 333 strap it should be, right?
Im getting DDR2-667 DIMMs next week, so id like to use the FSB 1333.
But stability is really important to me, does OCing the FSB also overclock the PCIe-link and the Southbridge?
Ive heard that is decoupled now, but im not sure since my P5AD2E (925XE) did have dividers, and if you set it to slightly below 266 it wouldnt recognize the hard drives anymore, because it used a new divider starting at 266MHz.
Nonetheless, i do hope you can achieve that they change the C1E-Bug in a new BIOS :)
CPU Temp Question:
Just fired up my new rig for the first time. I'm in the BIOS and just wanted to monitor the CPU temp for a bit before proceeding. I want to ensure I don't need to make any modifications to the 9700 Zalman cooler I have on it before I go any further.
BIOS CPU Temps after 10 minutes with CPU, memory, etc. ALL at default speeds. e6600 CPU:
Processor Temp: 38C
Internal Temp: 32C
Remote Temp: 31C
Is this acceptable, good, bad, normal, or ???
Thanks.

I was on a quest to get a custom screen on my G15 keyboard that had the info that I needed to see w/o the glitz.
I wanted: Voltages (VCore, 12, 5, and 3.3) Both core temps and the GPU temp. (threw in an analog clock for grins)
I used LCD Studio 2.0, Speedfan 4.32 build 17, and ATITool 0.26 and got what I wanted.
What all that unrelated stuff leads up to is that:
1) Speedfan comes close to TAT (within 1 degree) with temps on both cores.
2) ATI Tool gets the temps on the 8800s pretty well.
3) Without spending buku bucks I still have to load and run several tools to get the info I want on my G15 LCD :( but what the heck...
So ultimately how serious is the C1E issue for serious longterm overclocking? Seems rather concerning. Now that my Asus lost its cold boot issue with the lower FSB, I am not as quick to jump ship, though I still like the idea of the Intel for a few other reasons. However, the C1E issue is making me second guess (on replacing the one my tuniq backplate fried  ). If it is something that will obviously be cleared in a soon-to-be released BIOS, then it's no biggie. But if it's a nagging problem that doesn't get resolved...
edit: or is it EIST bug? meh...acronyms.
Does this waterblock fit the xbx2 NB? Says it fits "badaxe motherboards" in the write-up but the slots seem in the wrong place for xbx2...

so is there a 'bug' with EIST? do voltages drop?
when your cpu cycles are not being used, the mult drops down to 6x. so if you're just sitting in front of your computer browsing IE or firefox, your computer will be running 6 x FSBset.Quote:

it's a power saving function ( 6 x FSBset consumes less power than 9x FSBset).
As for the voltage dropping... I haven't seen the voltage change.
Actually, they BOTH have the capability to change the multiplier AND the voltage. The difference between the 2 is that EIST allows the OS to make the changes (either automatically from power profiles or under user control) while C1E is triggered automatically by the processor going into a halt state (I.E. no work).
So, EIST by itself does absolutely nothing. C1E is what's causing the multiplier to move around based on demand. BTW, I think C1E only messes with the voltage if the voltage is set at default in BIOS. At least that's what I'm observing.
Personally, I LIKE C1E once I'm stable. Why run the cpu full during idle periods? It's during tuning that it becomes a pain.
So...
No bug with EIST. It's probably never even being invoked.
Bug with BIOS correctly setting C1E on initialization.
You can manually control C1E from within Windows with RmClock, Everest and others.
If you're concerned about C1E, just play with it and see how your system reacts for the kind of load you put on it.
thanks for the clarification.Quote:

You should see 3 CPU temps. One that's just "CPU" which is the diode on the substrate, and 2 "Core" temps which read the digital sensors on each of the cores. It's the "core" temps that are crucial.Quote:
