By the way, I think that 1.55v is a little too much for non-extreme cooling. If your temps are very high and even if this is not the case there is a good chance that 1.4v-1.5v will give and even or even better coreclock. have you tried this?
90nm 1.55v = 110nm 1.65-1.70v (or something like that)
Some say the Geo clock works wonders in 3dmark...
aicjofs turned it off and achieved a great oc..But could turning it on give him more points in 3dmark ???
Did the rest of you guys disable the geo clock ?

I totally agree with Alexio on this one. With 1.55V and very very good cooling you should be well beyond 7900GTX speeds (1.4V). I would definetly try 1.4V first. That stock heatsink shouldn't even be used for ANY over-volting. It looks like it barely handles stock volts. Remeber that each 0.1V increases heat a LOT, and this is 90nm not 130nm 6800's ;)
what is stock volts on 7900GT? Is it possible to push the volt higher without vmod's like biosflashing?

I'm not sure if it will really work as I have no knowledge of how the mod exactly works. What I can do is make a bios that would give 1.1v instead of 1.2v without the mod. I think this mod will also lower the vcore with aicjof's mod, but I'm not 100% sure.
This way you van use rather xtreme vcore for benching and a lower for 24/7 without the need to take the vmod of

At stock 1.2v and 550Mhz the voltage reg temp was 49C with contact temp probe at load. At 1.55v and 695mhz the temp got as high as 63C.
Seem a real easy mod. More worried about the voltage regulator burning up then the chip itself. Hitting 44C with CPU and GPU loaded with mid range water. Wonder how robust the voltage regulation is...
--At 1.2V the max core was 555Mhz artifact free.
--At 1.4V the max core was 630Mhz artifact free. This makes sense if this particular GT was binned because it didn't make GTX speeds at 1.4V.
--At 1.55v the max core was 695Mhz artifact free.
From my quoted post in the other thread and some extras.
--GPU temp 44C in a "lower" high end water cooling setup at load
--Voltage reg temp 49C at 1.2V and 550Mhz at load
--Voltage reg temp 53C at 1.4V and 630Mhz at load
--Voltage reg temp 63C at 1.55v and 695Mhz at load
--Voltage reg temp 51C at 1.55V and 550Mhz(2d mode) at idle
Other thoughts
--Of course I have my doubts if 1.55v is a good idea for 24/7 use. This is just the test rig while I am redoing the 165 Opty and waiting for a different GPU water block in the main rig . Good cooling is a must no doubt. The voltage regulation system is definetly warmer but I guess if the over current protection works then it's not a risk.
--I don't have evidence but I would say on the early batches the yields aren't quite as good so more(not all, I have seen GTX speed from a GT at 1.35v) of the GT's chips didn't make GTX speed at 1.4v. As yields improve I would venture a guess that more GTX's will be "tossed" in the GT pile as they will have a bigger demand. Hopefully going forward more GT's will hit GTX speed with 1.4v

my friend just paint with silver conducting ink the D511 to ground and now he have 1.4v , its the easy way to do it and easy to remove :toast: :toast:

--Red is the "D511 to ground mod" VID 3 to ground
--Green is VID 0, VID 1, VID 2 shorted. VID 0 is the ground(low) that pulls down VID 1 and VID 2 to zero.
--Blue is the effect of doing both mods.
Since VID 3 is grounded it is always going to be zero. That leaves the range of .975 to 1.15 to work with. Some values won't work. It seems if you could set 1.1 or 1.15 via a BIOS mod, you would only be toggling VID 4 so you would set the voltage to 1.15v. That would probably work if you can actually get the BIOS to set VID 4. For example I think VID 0 is hardwired to ground by design(not changeable). It's not like a BIOS mod can overvolt this card as it is already at 1.55v for this VRM table. Let me know. I was picking through your first mod in Hex Compare, I'd try it myself but I don't have any Hex tools at work, plus I have some things to take care of this afternoon.
EDIT : Also there is more extreme mod that gives the Intel VRM 9 table which is different then the hammer above. SO a modded BIOS would need to be tailored to each if this BIOS mod actually ends up working.
