I'll accept a 65% speed improvement over the GTX, anything less is a waste of my money...Quote:

I'm a quasi-Ati fanboy, but you gotta give props to nvidia for making a great card in the GTX and being able to make as many as we could possibly want to buy.
yeah itll be hard if people actually try to sell these at msrp, especially when the gtx is so cheap with NO competition, i mean, not only is it the fastest card available, they arent price gouging at all, thanks nvidia, really stand up move imho.
Nvidia to release 512MB version of GTX
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26595
Relevant to R520 IMO....good thing :)
Indeed. Actually deserves its own news thread imo.Quote:

AS THE R520 Radeon X1800XT and LE both comes with 512MB of RAM, Nvidia kind of had to do something about it. Nvidia decided to react with a 512MB version of its already existing Geforce 7800GTX.
the inquirer has just posted a few new r520 articles - pretty interesting - especially the stock x1800xt's 3dmark05 score of over 9100
it has 8 vertex shaders, more here http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26597
the vertex shader details http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26620
the die scheme http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26619
All I can say is that I'm some-what impressed...
Does look impressive....now if there's any substance to there being more than 16 pipes under the hood it's even more impressive because as nice as this sounds, 300-325Mil transistors for only 16 pipes is a crapload, even with all this tech.
R520, Radeon X1800XT scores 9100:banana::banana:+ in 3D Mark 05
http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26622
I am pry going to sell my GTX for this the way things are looking.
What the :banana::banana::banana::banana:....seriously... hahahahhaha
lol. Obviously this is coming from the Inq so it may not be entirely true(or at all true), but if it is then ATi surprised me personally.
Just for a reference point, after browsing through the ORB, the highest ATi card is Macci's X850XTPE that did score 9591 , but the core was flying at 904 Mhz. The closest thing I found to a 9100 was Macci's X800XTPE that grabbed a 9112 , and the card was at 786/671. However he did have a Dothan screaming at ~3.4Ghz.
Anyhoo, if this is true(and I'm not saying it is), I am starting to feel sorry for poor Mr. Sassen and his website.
9k is for the one with 625 Core and 1500 memory, which is not impressive at all seeing as how these will be in limited availability and cost ~600 at launch.
So now we have RV515 numbers and R520 numbers...all that's left is all that i care about :D

some more interesting inq news, the r5XX series will have ultra threaded dispatch processors... sounds fancy, but probably ends up a little more than squat (in terms of performance)... http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26618
oh yea ati's new card is faster than the 7800gtx (20% and only in some scenarios... ) http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=26617
wfarid...Notice the name Fuad in the article about it being faster...
I'll leave it at that.
not under in all programs...
Hell I have a PCI nVidia card that will pwn an X850 in WZ21 in BSD simply do to the fact that there are half descent drivers for the nVidia card and none for the ATi
actually the one i want to know how fast it runs, is the X1600XT.
WOOT!!! Post 520........actually 522 :(
Care to clarify ?Quote:

Damn, there are whole bunch of terms I've never heard of before...
Back ends, Z compare units, texture memory units, then the "Ultra Threading Dispatch processor"...
That die scheme looks COMPLETELY different from any chart from ATI before. I didn't think the architecture was going to be THIS new...
Ugh, so much to learn about on launch day. :p:
now lets just see if any of the new stuff helps them....
Sure high core clocks can make something like that.Quote:
