Dammit :slapass: I can't remember, did you try memtest86 in that rig? http://www.memtest86.com/ Surely it has to be RAM or motherboard related to halt after running fine for a few days? You've probably tried this too but disable anything you don't need in BIOS & strip out any cdroms/floppy/sound cards etc.

Maybe it's worth trying linux on there & see how you get on :shrug: I've just put fedora core 5 on my xp1800 & it's running really nicely and is getting about 90ppd, which is around what I'd expect.

I'm not sure what a 3700+'s worth but I'd keep it for a future rig, any chance of finding a real cheap 3800x2 over there? - I was tempted by a stupidily cheap 939 x2 deal from a UK site, but the next day they were gone; had to go C2D instead, shame ;)

Yes, ran memtest for hours, 12 passes on the memory no errors. Prime95 ran for hours and hours with no errors. Everything extra in the BIOS is disabled (sound, printer port, serial ports, etc) and no extra drives are installed in it. There is a floppy drive in there but I haven't messed with that, it was in the system so I just left it. The CD burner is defective - caused major windows installation corruption - so I used a good one to install windows and then pulled it back out so it isn't even there anymore.

I don't know anything about linux. I messed with red hat 9 once and hated it, it was so slow and inefficient. I know that there are a ton of flavors of linux though. I did download ubuntu just for the heck of it though, but haven't used it.

Reason why I was looking at maybe selling my 3700+ if I got an opty or X2 is I can't afford the new chip unless I do sell it. Yeah, its that bad....

Apologies for the crap suggestions there man, if I think of anything more useful I'll let you know. Got my own PSU-based grief here at the moment too.

Well at least its only once every 3 days now, I had a p4 2.66 machine lock up before I went away. It was just starting a WU & was hard locked, when I booted it back up a week later I tried to delete the \fah\work\ folder & the core.exe, in order to clear the work & download a new core - it wouldn't let me. I think it may have been because of some strange permissions I put on the folder (it was shared for the purposes of FahMon), once everything was on default permissions I could delete stuff & got new core + WU. Its been fine ever since :shrug:

Well my P4 box, aside from getting slow work units, just lost a 300 GB Seagate drive... oh well. :(

Seems like everyone else is leaving me behind, and I have no money to upgrade anytime in the near future. Mark my words though... i'll come back someday... ;) :)

This is gonna hurt my PPD, I've gotten 2 GPU WU's in a row now that get to 13 and then go EUE, when it tries to send the partial work back it says it can't read the work file and deletes it. So the past 4 hours have been wasted! :(

I hope this new GPU WU doesn't fail like the others did.

*EDIT* AHHH another one failed at 13! What is going on????

*EDIT2* OK apparently that one project has issues, and when a project fails the client redownloads it to try again. Unfortunately this turns into a torturous loop of doing nothing. I had 4 EUEs that wouldn't even upload, so I deleted it from it's queue and now it got a totally different project. Hopefully this one will work OK.

'Main' rebooted overnight for some reason. Hmmm. Anyway, I'm off in the next of hours for three days, leaving machines running, so there is a good chance that my production will stall if any of these machines decide to sh|t themselves while I'm gone ;)

I'm gonna be gone for the weekend as well so my PPD will suffer :( I can't leave the systems running really because every morning at 4:30 or so school disconnects me from the internet and I have to sign back in. Kind of pointless to leave the systems running if they can't connect to the net to send/receive work units.

Does anyone know how to make a script or little app that would automatically sign me in every morning? I would leave the systems running if there was something like that. Basically load firefox, open a bookmark in it, and hit the OK button (password and all is saved). Any ideas?

I got an opty CCBBE 0617FPMW coming my way! :woot: Should arrive next week, question is whether I'll be able to get it before 2 weeks from now (it got delivered to home and I'm only back there every other weekend or so since I'm at school). At any rate at some point here in the very near future I'll be crunching with another core :D

the way I think that I would attack this is to see if the web page accepts the URL type where the form data is embedded in the URL after the page. If so, then I would either use a linux box and a wget cron job or cygwin if no linux box.

I was planning on leaving fold2 and fold4 running since they still have 4 days left anyway and I'll be back before then. Fold1 is due in a day or so... I may just leave it run. Fold3 isn't stable enough to leave running, though I suppose it won't do any harm if it crashes and sits there running crashed for a couple days. I wish I knew what the problem is with it... :stick:

btw, I came back from being away and not surprisingly Server was showing a BSOD. Printer driver issue this time I believe. I had to reinstall some HP drivers recently for my OfficeJet G85, wrong ones it seems. Will fix soon.
Surprisingly though, Main was fine until I touched it. Rebooted once I disturbed it :rolleyes:

ps. I agree with Angra, leave 'em on. They'll keep folding until they run out of work units and sit their relatively idle until then can get new ones.

Back from the weekend, yes I left them on. Fold1 was complaining about "try #40 to send work failed" but o well, I fixed that :D

@GAM, I DO have a job, just one that doesn't pay as much as I want because I can't work the hours I want since I'm in school. And alot of that money goes to pay for school :(

I'll soon have another 1GHz system running - got one that was hit by lightning, repaired the mobo, and found the CPU is good :D I am configuring it now. Then within the next week I should have my dual core opty and that should help as well... But I don't think I'll be able to keep you from passing me. Maybe though, just maybe.....

4 600-pointers in a 24 hour period... :rolleyes: Not fair. I keep getting 153 point Amber cores that take 16 - 18 hours to finish on my C2D system. And my P4 keeps getting EUE's on all sorts of projects... I think theres something wrong with it.

I have had a good share of 600's lately, mixed in with some 153's etc, but I also had a good share of bad luck WUs a little way back too. [Server just BSODed :( I jinxed myself.]

Your prod. has been lower lately :confused:. ...and I've been 'feeling' for you. Really :)
Recall, I got all those bad WUs for a while because my machines couldn't connect to 'assign1.etc' to get new WUs so it would connect to 'assign2...' which seemed to dish out all little and bizarre WUs.
