That doesn't make your testing practices any less questionable. They just aren't very representative of real world performance.

It also looks like Hardware Canucks used a video card that is about as fast as the almost three year old GTX280 that they used in their sandy bridge review and a bunch of canned benchmarks in their Bulldozer review.

I do have to admit that the gaming performance being about on par with yorkfield is a bit of a surprise.

Shame it turned out like this, BD was really important for AMD and I was looking forward to possibly update to such rig but with these numbers in my hand I'll have to rethink my plans.

So what? For CPU testing, canned benchmarks are a MUST in order to achieve accurate repeatability. If not, the results are all over the place. In GPU testing, walkthroughs can be done since the entire point is finding where the GPU bottleneck is.

If you can prove to me that another method is as accurate, I'm all ears.

Not for everyone.

For example for several server workloads the performance has increased nicely [yay for them]

And we have all learned a few things about floating point demand in benchmarks.

Much more can be gleaned in the coming weeks as we examine further to see were the pain points were.

Yes, but powerconsumption is through the roof... Wonder if they really can go with that when perf/W is essential in server space... or they have unloaded all "bad" cores in the consumer market and the good (aka lower voltage binned) get in the server channle.

And the extreme OC community seems to have a new toy to play with. Those LN results are impressive.
But it seems to be under performing for an enthusiast or gaming rig while too expensive for a low budget PC.

Piledriver under Windows 8 on the other hand looks really promising if the people at MS improve thread managing as they said they would.

Why don't you do a review of say, the i7 920 vs the 940 BE in games now. Put that "future proofing" bull:banana::banana::banana::banana: to the test? Oh, I do mean with todays fastest graphics cards at high resolution and maximum settings btw.

When those two cpu's were released the fastest card was what, the 280? So now there are cards out there more 2x-3x faster. By your logic there is no way that the 940 BE can compete with the 920 at max settings these days with such a faster card right? I mean, what's the difference between that back then and say, sli gtx 280's? You use that as an excuse to show garbage benchmarks that have no bearing on the reality. Low resolution benchmarks are a pure lie.

Performance/ watt for those benchmarks is better than i7 [Not much but it is impressive considering]

Green or Blue, we are all Geeks excited and just never forget, those Processors are the most complex machines build by human kind, at the smallest scale.

Not one man can claim to make any of this by himself, those are massive undertaking, the size of those transistors are mind blowing.

so, yes, there is competition, and yes, this architecture is not the happiest , but at least show some respect to the men who dedicated their life to build such complex machines.
It is ok to make a little fun of it, but please respect the men behind it, and get some perceptive, see how large is the achievement of putting something like Bulldozer together.

Quite possible. The Opteron 4284s that I am looking at are 8c @ 3ghz with 3.7ghz turbo that sit in the 75w space.

Course I wont be able to play with any of those until my deployment is over sometime next spring :(

Edit: Course Asus can't pull the L1N64-WS fiasco too...

Agreed. 2 billion transistors, thats just mind blowing thinking what it takes to design such a complex chip.

Right now noone is attacking him personaly or anyone at all, but people want a clarification why they got feed plain wrong information (aka lies). If your company would pulled a similar thing and you would have claimed variouse things that where plain wrong you would have to expect the same head wind as your counterpart.

well said,i think many of us enthusiasts forget how mindbottling cpu arch is, because of our common use and handling of the cpu itself
it's like it loses its mystery and mistic to us it's just a thing we take out of a box and hold in our hand until we install it and bench/test/game with it.
we forget deep inside theres a whole full functioning microscopic world in there with billions and billions of things going on.

and kudos for you statement about JF-AMD,there absolutely no reason for anyone to personally attack him or anyone

Are you blind? Have you even looked at the benches? Even in heavily multi-threaded scenarios, it loses to a quad core 2600k. It won't even perform anywhere near hexa core Intel CPUs like the i7 970 or the upcoming SB-E Hexas.
