But I think the whole diagram thing needs work on anyway... I notice that yours is showing your USB Devices and your HDD's, mine doesn't show my HDD's but I put that down to them being RAID-0, but mine doesn;t show my USB devices either, I see, is it a mouse and a USB HDD, on yours, but on mine it doesn;t pick up my Logitech Mouse, or my USB Drive, or USB Speakers, printer, webcam, or well any of them at all...!!!

It doesn;t even detect my DVD-RW drive, again as its on the SATA controller which is configured in RAID mode...!!

In fact the only thing it does show really is the Gfx Cards, my RAM and my CPU..... so its not really that good or reliable at all... just a nielittle novelty gimmick for AOD I think...!!!

Your on a 620watt..It could be PSU being noisy or even the GPU4850 making a little noise....

I get no extra sounds though any devices..My sound is crisp and Clean ..I use a Audigy4 with Gaming headphones along with a 5.1 surround set up when i watch DVD's and burn disks.

Also in the BIOS i use CPU tweak enabled.. I dont overclock with AOD except to look at settings.

im using 2.8vdd and +4ACC ATM @ 3.514mhz 2400NB @ 1.65v cpu / 1.6v nb which gives me 1.55vid cpu and 1.46vid nb while using ACC.

I have not heard any sqealing or audio noise through my system with any Overclock i have done on the ASUS 79-T to date.

I know that is the case with the asus 780g board..I used a couple in MCE boxes.

I had that issue with my M3A32 a bit, not much, only under heavy load and high voltage.

It very well could be the case(chokes)....Mine dosnt do it,,Unless im not pushing it enuff:rofl:

This is the first Mobo so far that hasnt made a peep..

I wouldnt rule out the Chokes under load and yes Maybe a Bigger PSU may help by keeping the power CLeaner under load...

Its all a gamble and by far way better than any SB600/SB700 in the power department..

keep eye on temps,, if thier not High or you dont get insane volt dips,, spikes,, i wouldnt worry about it.

What would you recomend, M3A78-T, M3A79-T DLX or something else?
I prefer stable high overclock and good superpi times.

Spend the extra $$$ and get the 79-T.. :D

BTW, don't put too much faith in SuperPi. It is by far the weakest example of system performance IMO, very dated and always favors Intel...

Try WPrime instead, it's a better measure of Multi-Core performance.

I've had a 78-T and I'm now running on the 79-T, I'm not a big Asus fan actually.. But the 79-T is MUCH/MUCH better and well worth the extra $50..

Hi welcome to the forums..

The M3A79-T is without doubt better for OC'ng than the 78-T as it has a better PWM section, essential when it comes to OC'ng high TDP CPU's like the Phenom 9950.

The M3A78-T is a good option if you are budget limited as it includes SB750, and Crossfire ability, although it will only give you Crossfire at x8/x8 PCI-E Link Width, rather than x16/x16 that you will get with the M3A79-T.

If you will not be using Crossfire then the M3A78-T will run a single card at full x16 Link Width, though I'm not entirely sure that this would be the case with a dual GPU single card like the 4870X2 etc....

Actually I've wondered about that as I almost got a DFI LP JR 790GX mobo to use for a HTPC, with a similar config to the M3A78-T but in mATX form rather than full ATX...

If anyone out there has a 790GX mobo and a 4870X2 or other dual GPU single card, can they confirm whether it runs at x16 or x8...???

JR runs @ x8, but that's essentially BW of 16x in PEG 1.1 terms ;)

hi there buddy and welcome to XS. I recommend the M3A79-T Deluxe. I have had two AMD boards and without a doubt this board is just far ahead of the competition. The power management is superb, and the power and reset buttons help out a lot if you have an open case like I did at one point. Look no further and spend the extra money. Buy the M3A79-T.

I know that PEG 1.1 x16 = x8 at PEG 2.0, but what I wasn't sure of was whether or not the 4870X2/4850X2 being a single card in the one slot would use the PEG 2.0 x16 available or whether it would drop down to x8 per GPU on the card.

After thinking about it a while, I realised that it would drop down to x8 per GPU.

I found with my 4850's in Crossfire that there was a difference between running at PEG 2.0 and PEG 1.1 in performance, even though there was no performance difference in running at x8/x8 PEG 2.0, and x16/x16 PEG 2.0

Dropping it down to PEG 1.1 would cause Crossfire to not configure correctly for me, at least with the early 4-series Catalyst drivers.... I havn't tried it recently...!!

I agree. DFI's have always been great overclockers and definitely my choice if the M3A79-T was not out.

what's the latest bios everyone owning this board is using? i just flashed to 0602.ROM and the board is unstable. with the original shipping bios 0302 i can oc to 3.22Ghz and be stable, but with this bios, at 3.22Ghz and as soon as i enable crossfire, blue screen. also, anyone know why i don't get the extra options for setting pcie to 8x or 16x or autonomous switching for multi-gpu? i'm about to toss this board and go back to the dfi 790fx lan part dark.

i have found the latest bios to work best for me. However I think my favorite one is 0403, hands down.

what's the latest bios if you don't mind me asking? is it this 0602 that i flashed my board with? i want to try 0403, but i can't use the asus update windows app as it says the bios is older than the current bios and to use dos. i tried the EZ flash utility from the bios, but who freaking uses floppy drive anymore. any advice on how to flash to older bios thru dos?

I am ready to play.. Board actually arived today..tho it said 12-2-08 delivery...The 9950 125w is in and is JAAAB AA 0836EPCW. have to load a few drivers and update the bios...be back soon..

0603 is the latest, and I had to do the same, i just opened up the case and put my floppy there with the cable directly to it, flashed and then removed it again. Its the only way to do it that I know off bro.

dng: This is the easiest way Flash Bios:

1) DL the bios from Asus and unpack it.
2) Put the "BIOS.ROM" file in the root directory of a USB Flash Drive.
3) Leave the USB drive plugged in and reboot
4) Reboot and enter BIOS.
5) Open the "tools" tab and select "Asus EZ Flash"
6) The utility should open the flash drive (usually drive c:)

The you can flash it from there....

I flashed using a USB thumb drive with no problems at all. Was kinda strange it showed up in the EZ Flash as my C: drive which its not. I actually exited and made sure I didn't have the BIOS file still on my actual C: drive before starting again. 603 seems to work fine as far as I can tell haven't had any problems with it.

0603 is good to be honest, but I am not stable on that bios, on 0403 I am stable. Weird, but don't know why.

I got this board today and it seems very good and has plenty of settings to deal with, I'm very happy with it.

I did originally buy MSI "KA790GX" board which should have had the 790GX and SB750, but I did find out that it lacks both of em and is really an KA780G board. Only difference between these two is the sticker on the motherboard, under that it says KA780G which is printed straight to the motherboard itself. The other difference is the price, this "new" costs about 110euros and the older one only about 60euros, im very pissed with MSI right now and i didnt even get the comp to start with that board and it was very unstable when i did finally get the bios updated and the comp up and running, so i did have to buy this NICE M3A79-T :)

Im doing now 3.1GHz with 9950BE 0833CPMW JAAAB processor at 1.4 Vcore and idle temps are about 45C and load about 58C, cooled with Arctic Cooling A64 Freezer Pro which is greatly polished.
NB is now 2483MHz and the HT at same frequency. NB voltage at default levels. DDR2 is 2x2GB OCZ Reaper HPC 1066 @1100MHz 5-5-5-18-2T ganged mode @ 2.2V

Just settling up here, played some Left 4 Dead for about 3 hours and worked flawlessy :)
Superpi about 24secs and 3Dmark06 13500marks, w/ HD4850@670/1070MHz, cpu score 4400

Maybe I try higher clocks tomorrow, oh and the ACC is still disabled ;) Latest bios installed though.

Any ideas and settings to deal with? My first DDR2/AM2 board so its little confusing sometimes with so many different voltage and other settings :D I had Opt 165@2.85GHz and A8N-SLI, which did die about week ago, dunno what broke down, I think its the CPU without the heatspreader, it looks like the sides were cracked.

Ps2. Does the phenom still has the thing that it can froze down at idle? :/ Hope not.

welcome faior, great clocks so far. For stability at higher clocks however, try to keep your HT under 2000MHz and your NB under 2400 MHz as well. Once you find your max on the CPU you can try to higher those certain values and see how far they can go while still being stable. Also, your RAM try to run it un ganged it is better and you should see slightly better performance.

So far this board is pretty nice.. I have not used ACC and amd slow going up in speed testing as I go.. 3.0ghz stock v's was of course a breeze.. but this was on all my Phenom but the 9600BE. The timings are ok, but ram did not auto at 1066, it was 333 LOL.. don't no why.. But I set it and it is working..

I'm running Bios version "0602".... I flashed it right away, without testing the version that came intalled on the board.

I've actually had pretty good luck with it. I've got 3.2/2.77 stable on XP64 with reasonable V's (1.4/1.3), I don't run X-Fire or anything though.

I have a question for you folks who have had the board longer.

Any opinions on the best OC BIOS for a 1 card 4850 with 4Gb of ram and 64bit OS?

Since Chicken Patty seems to prefer "0403" I'll probably go ahead and try it tonight, seems like he's had the board longer than most...
