I doubled checked that this morning, and yes, it is enabled in BIOS, but I don't see the Jmicron boot screen. The problem is this: I can't get the IDE CD-ROM to work! As I said, when I disconnect the IDE cable from the Mobo, the drive powers up, and I can open/close it. Once I connect the cable, it acts dead. I've tried a million things and cables, and same thing.

Thus, i can't even start the XP installation because I can't boot up onto the CD-Rom drive....it just looks at the blank HD and floppy drive, and then asks me to insert a boot disk and press any key.

I think you have to RMA that mofo, you've done all you can. The only other thing you can try is another CD-ROM, but that's just another $30 out of your pocket. That Jmicron chip has issues.

yeah...too many issues :(

I already called ZZF to get the RMA, and will send it back. Sucks becuase they wont refund money, but can only "exchange". So now I gotta wait a whole week or whatever before I get anything :mad:

Newegg > ZZF ! :fact:

edit: I sent it back....should get the replacement in a few days. I'll keep you guys posted

I haven't experienced any probs with the JMicron controller with my dvd-rw connected. The best thing about it is that it don't needs any drivers to work with windows.
RMA your mobo asap cause it gave u more than a lot probs.

why is my pci-x lane stuck @ 1x ???? my performance is getting affected adversly due to this.

Do you know how long it's going to take to get a replacement? I sent back a P5B DLX to them and they are telling me that they'll only send me my replacement board in 1-2 weeks AFTER they have sent the board back to the factory!:mad: I'm still trying to figure out what options I've got to pressure them to act quicker.

Their policy is ridiculous - I had a P5B burn out (literally) a ram slot 12 hours after install.!!!!!!!:eek:

yeah, I know. Well,, first and last time I'm shopping with ZZF....you live and learn I guess:( :mad:

Prices and their delivery are awesome, but they can't compete with newegg in service! At least newegg works with you on issues...these people took forever to get back with me, and gave me an attitude.

Can't Overclock...Period

Ok, I'm hoping the community might be able to help me here:

Just built the following system:

Core 2 Duo E6700 Retail
Corsair XMS2 PC-8500 2GB
Asus P5B Deluxe Wi-Fi AP Bios Verison 0614
SoundBlaster X-Fi Fata1ty
2x Western Digital 150GB Raptors in RAID 0 on ICH8R controller
Plextor PA-716A DVD-Writer on JMicro ATA controller
ATI Radeon x1900 XTX
Windows XP x64 Edition

If I run everything on default and set the memory to the DDR-1067Mhz setting, no problems, perfectly stable. If I change the memory voltage, processor voltage, FSB voltage...no problem.

If I tweak the FSB Frequency or the Multiplier even a single notch, Windows blows up in a blue screen:

MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION

Can't get past this to save my life. Windows appears to be forcing me to lock-in the 266Mhz FSB. Any recommended settings to try? I'd really love to try and overclock this thing.

Is your RAM set to 1:1? Try a lower divider. I bet you have it on auto, and if you up the FSB you're overclocking the RAM. The Asus auto function is stupid that way. It takes your default SPD setting (1067) and just ups the RAM too, regardless of the SPD. 1067 is the max for that RAM, you probably can push it a little, but those fast chips are just binned, they are on the edge already. And you can clock to something insane with it at 1:1 or another divider that keeps the ram <= 1067.

guys a little update on this:

i have noticed, that if i set my NB Vcore to anything greater than 1.45V, then the PCI-X Link Width drops to 1x and the performance suffers a lot. Any clue why this is happening?????

I am not using an optical cable, but I had a similar problem with the later BIOS revisions.

Someone posted a fix in another thread that worked for me. Simply set your speakers to 'Large Speakers' in the preferences of the SoundMax utility.

Got the same problem.. The only way I found to solve it is to shut down the MB and wait 5 minutes, then it says that "overclocking failed [...]" and the card boots up... :rolleyes:

At what FSB are u experiencing this problem ?

switch off PSU --> 2sec ON --> and again OFF , Press Power on a few sec and after that will boot.

Nope, tried that many times. It just wont fking post. I think i am going to sent it back for a full refund and try another board.

Failed OC?

I had this when I pushing my board at the start. I unplugged my USB devices as they were conflicting.

If not, then try reseting the CMOS on the board.

I doubt is failed OC, because it does not do anything after 1st restart. usually it will post after it. tried Clear CMOS, Unplugged PSU, etc. none works.

Well I take it you know what you're doing, so "incorrect wiring" is out of the question.

I'd say RMA the board then. Noone else has shed any light on this and tbh, the clearing CMOS / unplugging the power lead from system should have worked in some capactiy.

You can get another one, but again, tbh, these boards are ace when in the right hands. I'm not an ÃœBER OC'er and it does all that I want!

tnx a billion d00d looks like it's gone now

i just swapped the mobo p5b vanilla with this deluxe wifi one reinstalling only audio driver w/o uninstalling the old one..hehe tnx :)

I've tried lower dividers (I think), I've tried to specify the RAM speed, I've tried voltages, different FSB's, auto on, auto off, nothing but the same blue screen:

Windows x64 will not let me touch the FSB. If I even tweak it a single Mhz from the default 266 to 267...BOOM. BSOD. I'm to the point where I think I have a chip or a board that is locked in somehow, even though I'm running BIOS 0614. The damn thing simply will not overclock. And if there's a way to lock in the memory speed so the FSB doesn't change it, I have no clue how do that...I'm always getting these stupid speed numbers reporting (DDR2-1133, DDR2-680, DDR2-1440?).

I'm about to call it quits and just run the thing stock. It's far too disappointing at this point.
