the way i see is that 2GB is good for a single screen by typical users. and this lets the card cost ALOT less, since theres less memory, less chip space used, and less power consumed bringing the cost down all over the board.Quote:

GPUZ and Afterburner information where video memory usage is concerned is of little value.
When you have more memory at your dispossal many engines will allocate more data for the sake of caching even if its of no benifit. You can see the file name by hovering your mouse over the pic, it has the game name like I stated. Whether it's just "allocation" or use is left for you or some other reviewer to test. GTX 680 2GB is better overall @1600p according to tom's hardware review. Who cares how much memory it has ?! What really matters is real word results.
As for compute performance, how many people seriously care about that ?! HD7970 might have advantage in this, but GTX 680 has advantage it other areas such lower power consumption, 4 display support and PhysX support. Not to mention that nvidia usually have better driver support.
Kepler is a revolutionary architecture. It performed better than what was expected. It beats AMD with smaller die size and lower power consumption. However, AMD fanboys will never admit this.

Its funny it seems some websites won't be allowed to publish Kepler results even after NDA lift-off due to "non disclosed reasons". Those sites will only be allowed to publish tech-specs of Kepler but not a single benchmark, at least tomorrow.

Do you know of a program that tests actual usage and not allocation? The method you outlined would work but only for situations where the mem usage is near the capacity of the card. It would be nice to have user reviews (or review sites) of different games at different settings where actual mem usage is tracked so that buyers could know what their vram needs are. For example, using AB I've seen memory allocation of 2.2-2.5GB in Skyrim and in Civ 5 at 1600p. If the GTX 680 is fast enough to warrant an upgrade, I want to know if I'll be vram limited.Quote:

If you already have the fastest card on the market with at least 9 months before your competitor releases their next gen card, a smart manager would maximize profits from the cards already on store shelves. Your products already get extra recognition because your brand holds the performance crown.... and only a fool would release a faster card because all that does is de-value your own products and cause consumers to hold onto their money if they get any word that something faster and better is coming soon.Quote:
