Thanks Wizzard!
My BIOS was submitted yesterday :)
BTW GPU-Z is not reporting current clocks on main screen for me, but does so in Sensor tab....

GPU-z doesn't report real clocks (when in 2D) on its main screen but does so in sensor tab. This is common with every card and not just 5870...
I know and personally don't like it. I'd prefer to show them both in main screen...
Anyone know where i can get a long crossfire cable for a EVGA E760 Classified???
i buy these two cable @ ebay:

Hey Lightman, that card you're comparing to is mine. What driver are you using? I can't get any reproducable results atm I'm getting anywhere between 8000 and 12,000 points. I have tried the cd driver and the beta from AMD, so far the cd (older) seems better.
My card is a Sapphire. CPU is 965 @ stock.
Does anyone have an idea yet ? I would like to attach my Thermalright HR-03 R600 to a 5850 if possible .Quote:

Who will be the first to custom paint their 5800 series card as the batmobil?

A friend just got mailed this.
ok - enough with the quoting the same pic in 4 out of 5 posts
I think they need to redo the 5870's shroud & back panel. It seems too restricted for good airflow.

The persom whit the 4 HD5870 is the creator of this Thread:
http://foro.noticias3d.com/vbulletin...d.php?t=302124
The forum is in Spanish. The CrossFire runs good just the Quad CF, the drivers don´t work right, and the perfomance is lower that one HD5870.
Saludos xD
Has anyone been successful in flashing the ASUS BIOS to any other brand of card?
If so, were you using RBE, or another program? I've not had luck with RBE on this XFX 5870.
Does anyone know what tool to overvolt and overclock 5870s in CrossfireX works ? i only can OC using ccc Max 900/1300. AMD Clock Tool does not work for me or Rivatuner as the hardware its not yet supported by those appointmens.
This is what max i can get with ccc and Xeon 3570 on Air 06 bench -

I don't have a card here Angel, but I believe the AMD GPU Clock tool hosted at TPU will work if you do the following:
1.Restart
2.Launch AquaMark 3 or any full screen 3D application/benchmark/game
3.Exit the 3D app.
4.Run & OC via AMD GPU Clock Tool.
with my 5870, when i enable overdrive, it downclocks my memory to 300mhz and core to 157mhz, my 2nd display flickers? anyone else? but when it clocks it up, it works fine.
:eek:Well i was hoping for better air-flow. I thought they should have indented the plastic housing the fan from the top too, so that when in crossfire the fan can pull air without being smothered up against the other card. NV does it.
http://i38.tinypic.com/wcn1qo.jpg
And, theres no reason to have that "V" inside the shroud directing the airflow in two directions out of the back & top. I think it does more harm than good. They could have just vented the entire thing and let the air flow straight out, and if they indented the top just slightly, it still could have the slick design & appeal.
Yea I am a fan of that newer design Nvidia used. It surely makes a nice difference with SLI / Tri SLI configs where the cards have no clearance between. I personally won't buy a board than doesn't have at least 1 slot worth of clearance between potential dual slot boards but that is just me. At least Nvidia realized this is often not the case and did something to combat the problem.
Not sure exactly what you are referring to with the "v" but most of the stuff designed on the shroud/underneath it is meant to direct airflow which is exactly what it does.
Ummm... so you would rather have warmer airflow from the back of the other card than semi-cooler air from the middle of the case?
While Nvidia's design definitely was an improvement vs past generations it also limits the unheated airflow to the fan.
Edit- either way, the slight design differences are not going to show a tangible difference in temps. I would imagine the heatsink makes a much larger impact than the fan setup.
I'm not quite sure I'm following you. What I was saying is Nvidia's newer design is more ideal when using multiple cards on boards that don't have space between PCIe slots (when cards are literally touching). My board doesn't have that issue so it is not a concern to me. It is hard to say if the angled approach does have much of an effect but it obviously doesn't hurt if anything. I've always be wary of tri / quad setups because of the lack of space between cards so anything that makes these setups more ideal works for me.
Temps are okay here, but they do hit 80C pretty quick on deafualt fan:

nascasho - That's one great looking Antec 1200 build!
Awesome selection of best of breed components, and sharp work on the sleeving.
nascasho: that is a sweet looking rig! :o How does 5870 CF compare to 260 SLi? What brand are your radeons?
I'll tell you this, compared to my 2-way setup, performance to performance I say they feel about the same, which in my opinion... is freaking awesome! Especially for a SIngle GPU!
Also, the game feel sooooo smooth, and I can promise I'm not lying. I never saw any "microstutter" with my 2-way, but playing with this card makes me think other wise, lol.
I absolutley love the temps too, when these things idle, they seriously idle. At load the fans do a great job of keeping a good noise to heat ratio. I tried putting the fan up to 80% though... seriously... hair dryer alert. Ever seen that Nvidia video on the tube where they make fun of how the card sounds like a blower and hair dryier... well, it sounds like that, lol. But best thing is at full load your temps drop soooooo fast if you kick em' up. I dropped to 70C once in like 5sec from 85C!
I'm going to give it some lean way, but X-fire first impressions = fail. But i'm positive it's because the drivers aren't mature... and I need to stop using Crysis as a benchmark... lol. L4D, UT3 all run great, but I may pick up some more games to bench later like STALKER:CS and GTA:IV which seem to be good benchers.
I ran the benches for Crysis and the numbers were waaaaaaay off. Crysis "r-displayinfo 1" reported fps's that were way off and everything looked the be running 20fps.... not smooth compared to 1 GPU, actually worse. But the benches don't lie, min and max along with avg increased, but it was like 20% - 40% at most.
I still love these cards to death so far, even with one GPU. Will hope for better drivers or just find a game that'll take advantage of X-fire.
Yes,the only thing i,m worried about is Crysis crossfire performance i ordered my 2x5870 they should be here soon still hoping to see like 60-70% scaling in Crysis with future drivers if thats possible on 4890s,actually it was like 80% lol insane scaling then imo its possible on 5870 they are very similar tech.
Don't have a 5870 yet but for my 4870 CF rig I mounted a 250mm side fan to cool all the MB silicon and V cards. Some of those little chips get very hot.
Would 2 5870's be faster than my 2 gtx295's single pcb versions.. or would i need a 3rd one...Running on the Evga 760 Classified..
Yeah, im going to pick up another 5870 when prices drop.
they have a few at the egg now.. looks like some went up in price though..
So if i ran 3 5870's there wouldnt be any question they are faster then..right..
any eta on 5870 x2 ?
awesome, makes me horns ball :>
But haven’t ATI pretty much always preferred to released their stronger cards first, and then lower end parts later on? Or am I mixing things up? (wouldn't surprise me... :D)
And wouldn’t a 5850x2 sort of compete with the 5870? That’s what making me doubt it a little, I have however not seen any info on the performance of two 5850’s in cfx yet..
Either way October should be an interesting month :)
I found this image surfing and not sure this is legit but if it is it looks like we all going to be very happy.

they have simulated 5850 CF results in there as well, they have a nice lead over the 5870.
Sorry if posted already but if not here you go.;)

AMD/ATI Releases Hotfixed Drivers for 5800 Series Video Cards
Those lucky few owners of ATI’s new Radeon HD 5800 series video cards, may find themselves in a bit of a bind if trying to install the latest Catalyst 9.9 drivers, as it does not officially support the Cypress series chips yet.
As such, this morning AMD has opened up a hotfixed driver package to the public, to tide owners over until the release of the Catalyst 9.10 which should bring full compatibility under one driver. The fix is intended for Vista and Windows 7, available in both 32bit and 64bit flavours. It supports both the HD 5870 and HD 5850
It can be downloaded directly from AMD here:

They've already leaked images of the 5850x2 floating around the net. No idea on when they will be dropped but hopefully by then I'll have the cash to spring for one!
So going by Tech Reports x-fire numbers of the 5870 and 5850(simulated), would an actual 5870x2's performance be somewhere inbetween those two x-fire results?
Any speculation on this?
I only think this because the x2 will most likely be downclocked to 5850 speeds but still have the 1600 shaders of each 5870.
Or anyone think it will be faster than 5870 in x-fire..maybe because of some other reason? :)
With the 9.9 hotfix, lackluster availability, no 5850 and games like DIRT2 pushed back several months,
does anybody else here get impression 5870 launch was rushed?
I've never seen a launch that didn't come with hotfix drivers. And 5870's are available at almost every single e-tailer, and have been since the launch. I think at most one had to wait for several hours until some other e-tailer had stock. The 5850 is coming out this week, as was planned. I kind of like it that they're giving the 5850 it's own spotlight. This was one of the better launches I've seen in awhile.
So, no.
I do agree that ATI will downclock the x2 model due to the problem with the TDP of the card. I have not heard any news of the matter, I would think 2 5870's would be better than a single Hemlock x2 card.
Well, for the users hanging here I’d say what also matters is how well the Hemlock will OC, incase its just two downclocked 5870's. Unless it’s already on the edge in terms of power draw and heat.. But hopefully there will be aftermarket coolers hitting the market faster this time around (4870x2 comes to mind..), to aid one of the possible issues at least.
I do however like the idea of x2 cards, they are some really impressive pieces of hardware. By holding one you know they are something special :)
Time will tell…
Edit: And I'm sure they'll just enable the sideport if they need more power once nvidias cards are out ;)
But on a more serious note, it would be interesting to know if they have it implemented on the Hemlock, in similar manner as the 4870x2. In use or not.. :)
Just got my Sapphire 5870 in the mail today I can not wait to hook it up and see how it is.
AMD's ATI Eyefinity Technology Review
http://hardocp.com/
What drivers are you guys running with this cards?!... I found 'Radeon_HD5800_8.66RC6_Vista_Win7_Sep21' recommend for 5870HD.
On Cat9.9 release notes can't find any support for 5870HD...
I am using the Win7 Sep 21 drivers for the card, I am having some trouble overclocking with the utility AMD is giving. Anything over 900mhz core, crashes and the same with anything over 1300mhz memory crashes, I am sure this card can do more than that.
The 5850's (XFX And the HIS) are currently available on Newegg Now for $259. Use bing for an Additional 2% Savings.
here's what a 5870X2 looks like running in a system :D

holy dinos!
Here's a pic of it crammed into an A05B :D

Nice Dino's I like it alrdy
Nice :) And here is how it sounds. Watercooling might be a must rofl.
anyone water cool one of these (5870) yet??
Hoping to use Dtek Fuzion GPU block and ram sinks till Unisink surfaces. Had 2 x 4870s die though, I think it was the VRMs just getting to hot.
if 5870x2 is still two gpus on cf logic then its uber fail like amds strategy of multi gpu thing lets hope that its something revolutionary ... i doubt though
...to be disappointed that the reference 5870 can't be made single-slot by watercooling?
heheh guys i took the shot at an AMD presentation the other day in Sydney
its not my card
i wish it was
but performance should be well known anyways just look at 5870 Xfire results pretty much heh
notice how long it is EEEEEEEEEEEK
