**Official DFI LanParty UT X48-T2R(and LT) Discussion

I just started playing with mine X48 LT T2R and I'm not too happy. Every time I add any voltage to the CPU (Q9450) the stupid bios asks me to insert a boot CD. Even if I disable the CD ROM as a bootable device and unplug it from the computer.

It got stuck so bad once I had to re-install windows already. I also noticed it will sometimes change the boot priority of the hard drives when I change the CPu voltage and save. But it was certainly set correctly the last time when I had to re-install and it was suddenly not able to find the OS (tried booting it at 3500MHZ) I'm not too happy with my purchase right now but I still need to try flashing the bios... I can boot up 400FSB without adding any voltage to the CPU, but over 400FSB I get the stupid insert boot CD as well. So right now I have my Q9450 @ 3200MHZ, seems stable off default voltage, but I can't seem to go any higher.

it happens to me when i change an overclocked setting i just clear cmos

I hope this doesn't happen on the T2RS? Is there a bios fix in the works for this?

i found out after a ton of time spent with this mobo to add as little as possible with the normal cpu vid setting and use the special add instead it is much more stable that way and i have now set up three of these, 2 besides my own and all three times i had the same type of results with this

trust me i was VERY frustrated with this mobo till i began to understand it more

yea I tried clearing the cmos by jumper and switches with no luck. I can't seem to get over 400FSB. I havent messed with any bioses yet though. Any recommendations 7-14 looks promising? And the only place to get them is the DFI tw site right? The drivers they gave me had a windows vista 64 conflict so I hope I can expect more from their bios...

Winflash wont let me, it asks me to "please load the corect bios file" when I try to put the UT bios on my LT board.

Any other ideas? if you ever need spare bios chip get it from biosdepot on ebay 10$

So if I use a USB drive and go through the hassle of making it bootable etc, then it will let me install the UT bios? I dont have floppies anymore and if I did I would not trust them.

Just tried the Q6600 on the new bios and passed at 3.6Ghz again with lower volts on the NB and ram.

But what do I need to edit to prevent getting the msg that the bios is incorrect? Or is the UT bios really not compatable with the LT board?

Has anyone else successfully flashed the LT board with the UT bios?

what i do is i delete bios file in floppy ,replace it with whatever file n rename file to file i had in floppy n ...all good
i suggest you get a spare bios chip just in case if you gonna rma n stuff

You lost me man. I dont have a floppy drive or I would just use that. How does this help?

Are you saying I can just download the zip file from DFI's website and extract it to the thumbdrive? That should work, if I can make teh thumbdrive bootable? But how do I make the thumbdrive bootable?

I really dont want to buy a spare bios chip...it shouldnt be too complicated to flash the bios...
However I'd like to verify that someone has put the UT bios on the LT board before I attempt something like that.

im trying to boot from the dvd drive and it wont let me if i have raid enabled.

i need raid enabled as i have my 2 data drives in raid then my os drive not raided but i still need raid enabled to load windows ect.

What am i doing wrong? :mad:

You're not choosing the correct device to boot from. Select the drive by name at the bottom of the list instead of the generic name.

I am now suddenly getting the message just after the POST "Overclock Failed, Press F1 to continue or DEL to enter the BIOS"

The thing is everything is at stock.

What I don't get is that a couple of days before I tested Prime stable, Small FFT's for a little over 10 hours at 367 * 9.

Which voltages, the only ones that had changed were the vCore and the RAM voltage, everything else was stock.

Hey guys, its been a few days and I am still not able to flash my bios. I can't for the life of me get my computer to boot off the flash drive. For the boot order I put 1st USB-FDD, second USB-ZIP, then USB-CDROM. BUt my computer refuses to boot off the flash drive and instead boots off the hard drives even though I have removed the Hard Drives as a boot device.

Hence I'm still stuck with my Q9450 @ 3200 mhz @ 400 FSB stock volts...

Can someone clearly explain how to get my PC to at least attempt to boot of the flash drive? The light on my flas drive does not even turn on until after windows is loading...

edit: I was able to get it to attempt to boot off the flopppy but I jsut get a book disk error. I followed the direction on DRI's website and used the HP Utility to create a bootable drive. Aparently that does not work though.

edit: finaly it worked. I'm not sure why though, I just tried restarting a few more times and removed the extra USB options and then it booted and flashed automaticaly I'm not sure what triggered it to suddenly work, but I had also re-enabled boot other devices before it would work. Crazy weird! Put my old 64MB flash drive back to work once again!

I can do 3.2 on stock volts Prime Stable. What is annoying me is the stupid message about the overclock failing when it is not overclocked!!!

I strongly need some advise here..

My computer have went into an "endless boot" and I cant find out how to solve it. Some times when I clear cmos can I enter bios once but right after I get this post code 88 and the endless boot has begin again.
I have swaped memorys and tryed different slots, disconnect HDs and all fans. Removed PCI cards. I have even removed battery during night and clear cmos with out any success.
Is this a case for a RMA or can I try anything else?? All leds are ok on board and I can not see any damages. The board has always work well before.

Anyone else having problems with Bernstein audio module? im using s/pdif coax and the sound is breaking up at random interval. Like when im listening mp3 and then all the sudden it is silent for 1s and then the music is playing again.

I haven't used spdif output but I never had any problem with realtek soundchips.

RMA it. I mean it too.

I experienced the same thing little over a week ago after my rebuild with my x48. If left the battery out all night and then reset the CMOS, I would be able to get into the BIOS but after a few mintues.. more lockups. I tried switching everything and finally decided the board somehow conked out. I'm still waiting on my RMA. :(

During prime small FFts priming my Q6600 @ 4.0ghz the Pwn becomes in the high 60c. I know that the PWM are getting hot always, but is there any reason to concern about it? I did reseated the heatsink with MX-2 but a Very thin layer, and i got a 70/15 fan( stock AMD delta fan) blowing against it.

lap thw pwm heatsink but chek if the chips are 100% straight first
i never seen mine go over 38c even on max clock of 4.22ghz
i put xtra mx2 on mine just to make sure
the excess just overflowed n coolin the sides :D

Another prob:
everytime when it fails I @ prime /reboots during prime I look @ smart guardian at the same time the vdiMM jumps up to 3.42V O_O and 5V rail drops to 2/3V , is this a well known problem with smart guadian or my board is really producing such volts and either my board or my PSU is flaked:X

When i get this on my P35, i just uplug the power cord from the PSU and then wait few seconds then plug it back in with a cmos clear, and im on my way again.

This was caused due to a defective core on my E85 so know I have to run a E86 instead! :D

Well I guess my CPU is officialy = the suck.

I successfully got the new bios installed. I can now get into windows at over 400 FSB.

However! my maximum stable overclock is still 3200x2 ALL STOCK VOLTAGES.

I tried upping the NB voltage to 1.4, CPU to 1.4 1.36 1.24 etc and could not get prime stable at even 3300 MHZ on my Q9450. Even tried playing with the VVT a bit. Core 2 fails right away in prime no matter how much voltage I feed tot he CPu over 400 FSB.

However at all stock voltages and it seems prime stable @ 3.2 ghz. This is my first intel CPU in several years but I have never had another CPU that overclocks off stock volts, but does not go any higher when adding voltages.

I tried to Memtest @ 450 mhz and my memory failed (8GB G.Skill DDR2 1100 5-5-5-15). Why would memtest fail? Could the CPu being crazy unstable at that FSB cause memtest to fail? It seems fine at 400 FSB, but that is not what I paid for.

Really Really Disappointed in my upgrade from my old Opteron 165. If I could do it again I would have stock with the opteron 165 setup for another couple years. I'm not seeing a huge difference in performance from this PC and my 3 year old opty 165. Not worth the price difference anyway.

So is m CPU just a dud? Should I pickup another one? The Fuzion WB is keeping temps under controll and the new MB waterblock is nice, but I guess I don't really need either one since I'm only running stock voltages...

how can i get about 500MHz with this mainboard. if i put 500MHZ FSB in the bios system dont´start. I got a blackscreen and i need to clear cmos.

what cpu do u have, and u will need about 1.515-1.6V NB

It takes some time and patience to get the 45nm chips to OC well. GTL's play a MAJOR role in overclocking these chips, as well as VTT and NB volts. It took me almost 4 days to find the workable settings for my chip on my board.

BTW Memtest will fail if your other settings are not correct.

Not sure what CPU setting the GTL is, been trying to find that. What is the max safe voltage for VVT? BTW, I can pass prime for hours at stock volts but IntelCPUBurns fails much faster. I guess im not stable at 3.2ghz stock volts. Testing now at CPU 1.36v NB 1.3v vvt 1.04 What about them should I play with, and how do I know when I need more vt voltage? I Everyone says GTLs need adjustment but I'm not sure how to adjust them, or where the setting even is. My AMD's chips were alot simpler.

yes i was using 602 bios and it was the best of all the bioses i've tested every single x38-x48 bios
i'm done with the x38 n i went back to ut p35 when they we get a proper bios i will be back

i knew i should of got a wolfie instead of xeon quad. i can barely get a 440fsb with this thing lol
i wouldnt worry running at that clock speed if only at 1.38v. thats still fairly low. ur on water arnt u?

Interestingly I can't even get my computer stable at @ 2400 MHZ 400 FSB. No matter how many volts I pump into it. I can't figure out what is going on with this new system?

yep, thats why its good to have many spare parts or similiar systems . that way u can trouble shoot.
it could be so many possibilities u really need to test it all, ram individually, cpu, hdd, raid, board ,bios, strap,chipset drivers. temps.etc.
i couldnt get stable for a while with lots of crashes. then i discovered it was my raid0 causing it. disabled raid0 and everything ran smooth all the way to 430fsb.(quad)

Ok, well thats not possible I don't have another $1500 to troubleshoot.

Right now it appears the MB is defective. At first I thoguht it was bad memory (since I had memtest errors I thought I'd check that out first.).

So I removed all sticks but one and got no errors (underclocked). Then I put a second stick in and tested and it appeared bad, so did the 3rd, which I thoguht is crazy so I better test the slots on the MB, cause if anything, the memory is made in taiwan and everythign else is made in china!...

Appears with 1 stick the memory works fine (green slot 1). In green slot 3 I get errors immediatly in Intel CPU Burn. I heard it takes a month + to RMA to DFI and I am out of the 15 day from online. I might try a buy swap and return from a local store, or else I will buy a different MB and sell this one when I get it back from RMA.

Now I'll also need to find a way to remove the tape from the fuzion mount. But I'll leave that for another thread.

I will also need to flash back to the origional bios! replace origional Heatsinks and remove additional swiftech HS's I put on some of the V-regs... Lame, money time and work, and yet I have to pay more, get a different MB and re-install windows a 3rd time! If I was a company This would be over $1000 of labor, talk about screwing the customer...

Ok here is the deal. Memory works in Slot 1, or in Slot 3. However I get errors in Intel CPU Burn when using both slots 1 & 3. How can I correct this? I need to use all 4 slots. Timings are set to auto in the bios. 5-5-5-15, this is PC2-8800 and all 4 sticks were purchased together as a kit. But aparently they do not wok when paired so I must have a setting wrong?

Also with your problem using raid, was it just disable din software or did you have to avoid using the green ports? I have 3 Hard Drives, no raid, but I did plug them all into the green ports.

How are you guys finding the E8600 for overclocking with bios 725?

With 1 stick of memory and ALL default voltages (CPu @ 1.18v) I can run 8x400FSB perfectly stable @3200 MHZ on the CPU.


Keeping the FSb at 400mhz: Slots 1&3 (green) - Dual Channel
With 2 sticks of memory and NB at stock voltage Intel CPU Burn Fails.
With 2 sticks of memory and NB at 1.4v CPU Burn Fails.
With 2 sticks of memory and NB at 1.5v CPu Burn Fails.

This is a situation where either the components work together or they don't. So a progress update is a bit tricky. I do know the engineers worked through the weekend on it but as yet there is no news of a fix. There is a thread over at the club one should keep an eye on as any news will mostly be there first. The only DFI boards I know of the 4870X2 working properly with are the P35 and ICFX3200. And there are not enough reports from using these two boards to know if all users will have the same success.

I have seen that a lot of you use bios 602. I jumped directly to the latest bios (se sign). Are there any difference of fsb clock between these bios?
Mine E86 starting to scream after voltage allready know around 4.25GHz and I have seen other with same batch do 4.5GHz at 1.35V. I need atleast 1.41-1.43V to
get it stable at 4.5GHz.

3.8Ghz ---> 1.15V
4.0GHz --->1.21V
4.25GH --->1.31V

What bios do u recommend me to use...?

Ok so how do I adjust these values? So GTL adjustments are the settings that allow dual channel to work? IS the problem I'm having CPU related then? I don't understand why I can run single channel 2 stick of mem fine but dual channel does not work no matter how much voltage I send the CPU. I also don't understand why I can run default voltages up to 3.2 ghz but anything over 400 FSB and I can['t even boot even if I max the safe voltage on all components?

yea everytime I search GTL all I find is people recommending people tweek these settings, but when looking for how to do so I come up empty handed. So I must be searching xtreme [H] google for the wrong thing....

how is this motherboard for quad cpu + micron ddr2 overclocking on air?

cpu is q9450, ram is 4x1GB micron d9gmh.

I will not be crossfiring so I was thinking about going with either P5Q Deluxe (~$200) or the Biostar Tpower I45 (~$150).

How does the LT x48 (~$250) perform compared to these boards in overclocking?

My UT X48 wont do over 450FSB without gtl tweaking. My P5Q Deluxe on the other hand does 475FSB without that. Q9450,2x2GB Redline here.
So my vote goes to P5Q Deluxe.

Thanks for the link, bookmarked! I tried the settings suggested for default VVT 1.10v GTL 95/90/75 and I still can't get Intel CPU burn to pass using 2 sticks of memory in dual channel (PC is only stable in single channel). I'm only attempting to get 400 FSB stable here nothing too crazy.

edit: achieved 3.0ghz Intel Cpu Burn Stable!

Now when looking at the PLL charts, it says VVT voltage setting in bios, then actual voltage. Where are they getting the actual voltages? Are they getting the actual voltage from the bios reading, CPU-Z, Multimeter?

Which should I go by when using the charts?

Right now my VVT setting is 1.35v, PLL 120. 110, 90 CPu voltage @ Auto + ~111%, Nb @ 1.5v

Seems crazy to me that it takes so much voltage to get 3.0 GHZ Dual Channel, where stock voltages are perfectly stable in single channel memory configuration. Someone have an explanation for me?

did you guys see this? I have two 4870x2 that I can't use because the 7/25 bios flash killed my bios.. I bought a new bios chip though that should be here tomorrow.

i was just looking at some x48/quad voltage settings that some people have . noticed vtt is really high on some for 400+fsb.
ive always kept mine low , but now im thinking i made need to up this abit.
is it true that higher vcore requires higher vtt?
or is vtt meant to be a % of ur vcore?
thinking for 450fsb /3.8ish i might need to go to 1.45vtt +?
gtls i can take from clunks or evas chart but not sure about vtt.

bro, get a multimeter when you get a chance, pick a VTT voltage, e.g. 1.3v, measure the the voltage under the load. Let's pretend it was 1.29v, now multiply that by .63 (1.29 x .63 = 0.813v), take reading of the CPU 1/3 0/2 NB and adjust the values - or + until you hit 0.813v. I have a fluke DMM but what should I use for the grounding point? A ground from a PSU cable?

I got it stable at 3200 MHZ but not going off the chart, but rather off another users advice for these new chips. Acording to his post the 67% rule doe snot work for newer steppings.

For the ground spot use the the metal around the holes for the mobo screws. You should go with 63% and from there go downhill until you find something that your system likes. I would recommend to leave the GTL disabled for now since those values seem to be way to high :confused:?
