hmm I've been tweaking my chip on and off for almost a year. You know the game, you think you're satisfied with your current setup then you come on here and see some guy with a similar chip who runs much higher and feel bad and you're tempted to push the chip more!
I was running at many different settings for a while, my last one was 2.85ghz @ 1.376v, LDT bus was at 1.3v, chipset at 1.6.
I specifically ran lower chipset because mine kept on overheating. Now I come in here and see people running LDT bus at 1.4v and chipset at 1.7v.
Were you guys just doing it for benchies or do you run that 24/7 and plan to for a couple of years? I do notice however, running higher LDT's does wonders!! I'm priming again, 2.87ghz @ 1.37V w/ LDT bus at 1.4 volts.
3ghz @ 1.45v cooled by a zalman 7700cu - lapped and 115cfm fan mounted

Hi guys
Im thinking about updating my trusty 3200+ to a dual core model 'cos of Vista coming and Half-Life 2 will get multi core support along with Episode 2.
[rap mode] My rig is in tha sig, my homies [/rap mode]
I was thinking about Opteron 170 ( 2.0 GHz, 939 of course) since I can get it for pretty cheap (209€).
Currently my 3200+ is rock solid at 2.5 GHz (FSB:MEM - 1:1), but I would like to have the opteron at least at 2.5 GHz as well. Preferably above, of course.
You guys think this is a good idea?
Peace ;)

Also attempted to do a 24hour prime of 3ghz, but got lazy and stopped it.

nice. whats the stepping ?
Got my Opty 165 stable @ 2.9G 1.4v. It'll run at 2.95G, but not stable. Gonna have to try the volt mod on my lil Assrock mobo and shoot for 3G+.
Sorry wrong thread, eh?
No one here probably has this motherboard but I thought it was worth mentioning.
If you use the DFI NF4-DAGF, you have to use the August 2005 BIOS with it. Any later BIOS will cause it to shut down, when the computer is not being loded even at stock speeds with good temps. This is an opteron-specific issue because it never happened with my Venice. It occurs in both mobos.
I hope this helps someone who is having a similar problem.
Right now the specs in my sig are stable. I went for 2.85 GHz at 1.6v, and it failed dual prime at nine hours, so I clocked back down to 2.81. :(

Great results... ;) What is best prime95 stable on Opteron 146?

I love dual cores.
The 14X are being sold here for less then 90$, and since my 3700SD is such an arse to OC (CABGE stepping -.-) I think I might go for an opt. Seeing so many ppl hitting the 3ghz barrier, damn....:woot:
What are the good steppings? CABNE?
and which ddr600 ram should be considered good (budget:performance wise).
Strange that your chip shows a TDP of 85W, I have the same stepping and my chip reports 75WQuote:

Need to find a good supplier here in the netherlands, so if anyone have some thoughts bout it. Let me know.
Give the guys at icomputers a call, they're usually helpfull with finding a good stepping.
I bought my SD there, CABGE stepping.. same with an old venice. Stepping was absolute terrible, so were the OC results. But I'll try none the less.
No 144 tho
Hey! I got my Opteron165 2 weeks ago, but during the time i've been rebuilding my watercooling (Dual pumps). So i've been working my as off. Anyhow, i'm up running again and the CCBBE 0616 XPMW is doing a great work. It was a bit hard to get it running over 3000mhz, but after some serious mem-tweaking i'd suddenly reached over 3100. I ended up with around 340 FSB. IHS removed ofcourse =)
Return with validation tomorrow. Got'a sleep.
How much did removing the IHS buy you temp wise? Core 1 on mine is 10'C hotter than core 0.Quote:

My temp differs from like 3 to 4 degrees between core 0 and 1 . Smartguardian says 24-25C and core temp v0.94 tells me 29. Im not sure which i should trust. Anyway, time for some clocking.
Hi
here goes the results:
Opteron 144 CABGE 0536 vpmw

my 144 CAB1E 0614 died idling at stock speed so got rma replacement, this one has CAB2E 0619 SPAW stepping, anyone tried similar one? I dont want to even open the package if its a dog, anyway I have a another 144 CAB1E 3100mhz stable on air in my MSI k8n Neo2 54G..
